Following the route from Poole Civic Centre and Longfleet Drive to Canford Magna on a bike. Longfleet Drive was part of the Canford Estate. The film follows the 1900 Ordnance Survey map, and compares what was there then, and now.

Enjoyed your film on Lady Wimborne drive, David. I was Çhartered Engineer for Dorset County and responsible for demolishing Lady Candford Bridge on Ringwood Road next to the Mountbatten Arms and Bournemouth Water Co. I worked continuous all over one weekend in the mid 70's. The construction was light reinforced concrete believed to be about 1930 's and part of job creation for unemployed. Due to location of major services water, electric and the like heavy explosive could not be used. Instead a consecutive blast of 2oz charges were use to crack the concrete and finally demolished by the old style ball and chain on a mobile crane. Much to the displeasure of the late midnight customers from the pub who congregated to witness a big bang. Walter Reed, Wimborne.

Sorry for the long comment but your videos have got me remembering things i noticed whilst studying my family tree who come from Iford. Another interesting 'lost road' is the road from Iford to Holdenhurst village, very soon to be completely lost to the new road that's due to be built there. Albeit this bit is short i even think this is part of the original road prior to Bournemouth being built that linked all the villages along the River Stour. Starting in Tuckton, following Iford lane up to Iford bridge, then the pathway that takes you to Tesco's superstore down to the right of castle lane. Once at Tesco's, follow the lane down past Iford golf course, then the road is split in two by the now dual carriageway, with Holdenhurst Village on the other side. The road then resumes onwards to Throop, Muscliffe and Kinson. Remembering also that Winton wasn't there at the time I'm talking about (before 1800), i believe that Muscliff Road in Winton's back roads is a part of another original road cutting up from muscliff using Redbreast/Nursery road, draw a line to the top of Meyrick park where Stokewood Road Meets Meyrick Park Crescent, you can almost see it winding it's way along the ridge that would of been above the flood plains. All most likely frequented by smugglers as we all know who lived in Kinson right? If you could make a 'bikeumentary' about this, that would be amazing! Many Thanks.

Hi, yes that would be interesting and much of it has sort of still there in as much as the routes of today follow the same lines. Here's something to play with :- maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/ It's old OS maps of the area you can scroll around and you can fade the overlay between the map and current Google earth imaging. I use it for planning and actually fun!

Very interesting yet again. I’m glad you’re planning more, and look forward to them.

Very Good. This track was part of my wanderings as a kid in Johnston Road, Oakdale, 1950 -1967, before the Parents moved to Jolliffe Road (Behind Denby Lodge - in fact, the Lodge's Stable House was in our grounds, and Dad used it as a Garage/shed/store for his business as a Decorator). I have more info to share, by and by. Castleman Trailway is a bit of a stretch, dodgy traffic in places, but on a fine day, it is great!

Brilliant video David! I'm local to Poole and enjoy the history, and i'm a filmmaker too (albeit tech videos). Let me know if you would like to collaborate on a video later this year

Hi, and thanks :) I've saved the comment to my reminders and hopefully we can chat once we are allowed out of the house again!

Loving the 'bikeumentarys' David. When the madness decreases perhaps I can bring my bike and my Mavic pro out to ride a new route. You can give me some drone filming tips.

That would be great Colin :) However, you'll be appalled! Filming sessions mostly involve forgetting to charge stuff up, forgetting to check memory cards aren't full plus lots of cursing and muttering. Add to that I have to go over things more than once because I can't cope with doing droning and action cam at the same time. Plus I keep misreading autocue and appear totally disorganised. Thank goodness for Adobe Premiere Pro to cut the crap out and spit out something. At the moment I'm just waiting for some decent weather to go out and get a bit of fitness back, but deffo up for it when the madness dies down!
