Grab your fiercest feathered hat and come with me on a journey back in time to explore the makeup and cosmetics of the Edwardian era.
It’s 1909, and Selfridges has just opened its first makeup counter in London. The iconic “Gibson Girl” is the personification of feminine beauty, with her dramatic coif and sun-kissed cheeks. Brows were prominent, lashes were minimal, and porcelain skin was the goal.
Using age-old products and favorites from my cosmetic line, I walk you through how to get the look of the idolized Gibson Girl-exemplified by the most photographed woman of the era, Lily Elise.
Lead-based foundations, coal mascara, and talcum powder may have been the beauty regimen of the day in 1909, but product safety has improved dramatically since then. As always, my earth-friendly line of luxury makeup and cosmetics is safe for your skin and cruelty-free (not to mention fabulous).
