@@SakuraAsranArt Yeah, there is a lot of really bad Egyptian pseudo history, but the thing is with Mayan pseudo history is more mainstream. Namely the belief by many that Mayans were all peaceful philosopher kings whom spent all their time staring at the sky. When that mel gibson Mayan movie came out, all the outrage was over the very real fact that the Mayans warred, raided, slaved, worried a lot about their version of end times and even committed a lot of human sacrifice at times. The movie was not historically accurate, but wasnt really meant to be nor was it bad or even preachy considering what a religious nutcase mel is.

AMAZING VIDEO! When i begged you to make a video covering the classic period like a year or two ago, i had no idea we'ed THREE videos on the crazy and dramatic dynastic historied of the great Maya kingdoms. The historical drama in these insciptions really is amazing to see on diplay like this, the constant betrayal and brutal conquests hint at so much human dram that you could write dozens of novels set in this period. I seriously hope you bring attention to the equally fascinating and detailed dynastic histories of the postclassic K'iche' and other highland kingdoms, because the wealth of post conquest literature is just as fascinating and exciting and dramatic as the classic period.

Thanks so much for the easily understandable and digestible information, I am a new subscriber now. You seem very knowledgeable which I can tell from your pronunciation. I am very intrigued by preclassical history as it shows the processes that link our natural primitive ways of living to modern times. I often feel an irrational anxiety about the incredible historical records that have now been lost to looting, natural degradation or negligent archeology. This video comforts me because it seems we’ve figured out plenty on our own, and researchers are making progress and refining our understanding of ancient civilisation still to this day.

Something im trying to really grasp is if the people who lived during this time considered themselves to be Tikali or Calakmulian over being Mayan seeing as there was no unifying central mayan government and was more about the city states and we group them together as just Mayan today, best example i can think of is there are many slavic countries, with each country being a city state and they all share similar slavic culture which would correlate to be the Mayan grouping in this example, just some food for thought, i just discovered this channel and i am loving learning about this history i was shamefully never taught growing up, so keep up the good work!

Something you might have wanted to mention was that Sky Witness, the conqueror of Tikal, was buried at Dzibanche. So even though the Snakes were taking over Calakmul (to get closer to the action, I guess), the rulers still regarded Dzibanche as very important at least at that time, despite a possible later civil war. At the very least, it seems still to have been the dynastic graveyard.

Siyah K'ak, what an unfortunate name. I bet the kids in Maya elementary school gave him hell. "See Ya Cock, See ya Cock" they would tease him, until Siyah K'ak realized he could just have the other kids sacrificed by having their hearts ripped out while still beating since he was the prince. Soon the children either quickly learned to not to tease the future ruler or there were none left to tease the future ruler, history is uncertain on the exact details of this account, but we do know the number of sacrifices went way up that particular year.

02:36. Maybe their idea of warfare is less Western and more akin to the Aztec. They can take land, but are more focused on taking slaves for sacrifices? Thus, you don't need to "win" a formal war, but engage in hit and run raids like the ancient Celts, Germanics, and Medieval Viking Scandinavians? Usually not formal wars, but more akin to 1600's-1700's European and Wild West highwaymen banditry.

I have been to many of these sites, they are all very fascinating. The influence of Teotihuacan is seen throughout the area.

An honorable mention to the teenager who discovered the lost cities of the Mayans just by charting the stars and the experts said no but had to eat humble pie after the fact that satellites proved the teen's discovery, I was watching a video from the Navajo wise man and he said that the Anasazi weren't ancient enemies but the different ones.

Shoot, have to go to work again JUST as Ancient Americas drops a vid. Bad luck. I'll watch as much as I can 'fore I have to go, and get back to the rest soon as I can. Anyways, putting out a tactical comment to please the algorithm, I've no doubts the vid will be great.

Star War 🌟 was introduced to the Maya by Teotihuacan. According to some archeologists. Michael D. Coe, Simon Martin, and David Stuart.

Great video!! Mexico has the 12th largest economy in the world, so they should invest more in archaeology. There are still a ton of Maya cities dormant in the jungle after all.

They actually invest quite a bit and there's a lot of really talented archaeologists doing really good work down there. The problem is that there's just so many sites down there.

I'll be honest, when I first heard Teotihuacan and Tula being in the Maya region, it was on the history channel during ancient aliens peak so i thought it was junk. Lol. I read that paper in spanish in archeologia mexicana in Spanish years later. I didn't know it was in English. Lol.

Hey glad to see another of your videos! Do you think you can make a video about Wixarika people a lesser known group of indigenous people. But it would be greatly appreciated!

I try to focus on pre-colonial history but it is a fascinating event. Maybe I'll cover it someday in the distant future. For what it's worth, the ancient Pueblo will feature heavily in the next episode!
