Did you ever wonder where the candy Nerds came from? Well, Nerds candy, those tiny, tangy, crunchy nuggets of joy, burst onto the confectionery scene in 1983 under the Willy Wonka Candy Company, a division of Nestlé. Conceived by Travers Candy, these colorful, irregularly shaped bits quickly captivated taste buds with their unique combination of sweet and sour flavors. Initially available in two flavors, Grape and Strawberry, Nerds swiftly expanded their repertoire, offering a rainbow of taste sensations. Over the years, they've become a beloved staple of candy aisles worldwide, enchanting generations with their playful personality and irresistible crunch.

I think your script would have been more accurate stating Nerds are 40 odd years old than 30 odd years old.

He says Nerds were made for the 1971 release of Will Wonka. I’m not a math scientist but I think that’s more than 30 years ago.

4:40, "...however, that little hiccup didn't prevent Nestle from acquiring the Willy Wonka Candy Company from Sunmark in 1988. Until that time, Nestle mainly was associated with drinks... they were branching out into the candy business..." While it's true that Nestle's first products were baby food and condensed milk back in 1866 (under their original name, Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company), and their main products for decades were those plus instant coffee and a number of other drink powders, Nestle started selling chocolate as early as 1904, and broke into the candy business as a manufacturer in 1929 with their acquisition of Swiss chocolate company Peter-Cailler-Kohler. (Source: Nestle's timeline as posted on their web site.) I don't know exactly when they became a direct competitor to Hershey, but by time I came along in the mid 1960s, Nestle chocolate bars were found wherever chocolate bars were sold. Whenever we'd visit my grandparents, who lived in another city from where I grew up, my brothers and I would anticipate our afternoon snack break, when Grandpa or Grandma would announce, "It's time for your Nestles!", and produce a Nestle milk chocolate bar seemingly from out of nowhere. Grandpa and Grandma were very brand-conscious, so it was always Nestle's, never Hershey's. (No, I don't know why. I don't remember ever seeing either of them eat chocolate bars. As a kid, I didn't have a preference, and I don't remember any of my siblings having one, either. Chocolate was yummy, no matter whose name was on it!) My point is that well before 1988, Nestle was probably best known for its candy, at least in the USA, and they also had a long history of acquisitions. For them, this was just another one.

Does anyone remember double dipped nerds? Those were awesome! I wish they’d come back with a lot of the flavors they had in the late ’80s and early 90’s. Great video!

11:02 - SNOZZberry, where SNOZZ rhymes with Oz. Not snoozeberry! It comes from the scene in "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" in which Willy Wonka is showing off his lickable wallpaper to his guests. While they're all licking it (I guess were weren't as grossed out by such things back then 🙃), Willy is telling them, "Try some more! The strawberries taste like strawberries. The snozzberries taste like snozzberries." At which point one mother, who is a teacher, objects that there is no such thing as snozzberries.

In first grade our Health teacher put up a picture of Nerd’s candy on the whiteboard. He asked why he would show it and we of course assumed it was to highlight it was unhealthy… turns out his father helped develop them!

@2:10 You mention the "PEANUT BUTTER" OOMPAS™ HOWEVER, the photo is the "FRUITASTICALLY CHEWRIFFIC" OOMPAS™🤔🙄 THIS is a small, little inaccuracy compared to Your video entitled... "THE STORY OF REECE'S PIECES| AMERICA'S BUTTERCUP" AND THE THUMBNAIL PHOTO was the ALL TO FAMOUS Orange wrapped two pack of AMAZINGNESS that We all know, & love called "REECE'S PEANUT BUTTER (CUPS!")😮😮 I saw that, & was thinking 🤔"NO, HE HAS TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE?!" Because You have a great Channel, & I LOVE Your research, & Your Episode ideas/content are PHENOMENAL! AND I'VE BEEN DOING RU-vid FOR 5 YEARS NOW, & 3 SEPARATE CHANNELS, SO I'M NOT JUST TALKING OUT OF MY AZZ, I KNOW THE WORK THAT GOES INTO THESE VIDEOS! SO, WHAT HAPPENED WITH THAT EPISODE BROTHER? AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE KNOW THAT I AM IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM TRYING TO BE RUDE, INSULTING, OR ANYTHING ELSE OF THE KIND! I'M ACTUALLY A BIG FAN! Just really confused about that one!?

Strawberry was always my favorite as well. I got to try Hot and Cold just once... I think it only had limited release and never saw it in my town but on a bit of a road trip got to try a box when we stopped at a gas station. You said the cold was wintergreen, but I think it was peppermint. (I say this because I did not much like the cold flavor, and I don't like peppermint. But i very much DO like wintergreen) The Cinnamon was fire though. One last comment, one small bit of information that maybe should have been mentioned here is that current masters of Nerds dropped their license on the Wonka name, so Wonka Candies are no longer a thing.
