Because of each Zildjian brother trying to "one-up" each other, I believe this brotherly competition made both Zildjian and Sabian better and hence, the two best cymbal manufacturers in the world! Hands down! I use both.

The Canadian A's were awesome - also love Sabian's generous output of unique prototypes. I had one that was a crashable medium weight 22" with AAX lathing, every type of hammering, big hammered bell, AA profile shape and was the most versatile cymbal ever.

Play " Bob's " brand cymbals . Sabian was the way to go for sure ! The first cymbals I ever owned came with my early 70s era Ludwig 5 piece and were camber cymbals ( pure trash ) but for a complete drum set w cymbals for $100. Circa 1989. I couldn't complain right ? The first decent cymbal and first Sabian I ever bought was a 16in med B8PRO , soon followed by a b8pro 20in light rock ride ,then a set of b8pro med hats . For the money there was nothing at the time that could compare . That started my Sabian journey . Since then I've owned and played AA/ AAX/ HH / HHX and have introduced all 6 of my son's to Sabian cymbals started them on b8/ b8pro , moved to XSR , and my oldest now owns his own HH/ HHX . So that's 7 drummers in the same family who all play/ played Sabian cymbals exclusively.

This is a great chat. I use Sabian AAX as for me they sit somwwhere between a Zildjian A and K range. Perfect for our sound. I also usually run Zildjian K Light Hats as they're not as loud in my drum mix. Both great brands that have complementary offerings IMHO

When Andy said “.......Armand was ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN.” That is exactly why Paul Francis is no longer with Zildjian. Craigie didn’t tell the new bean counter CEO that Paul was OFF LIMITS when it came time to trim the fat from the company. I never liked her being in control of Zildjian. There was always something about her I didn’t trust. As soon as I found out Paul Francis was no longer employed by Zildjian I made the move to Sabian. I have my popcorn ready to see how long it’ll take for Zildjian to be run into the ground. In the meantime I’ll be playing my new Sabian cymbals and slowing selling off a large portion of my Zildjian’s.

What!?!? When did this happen? 😬

What?! Where did you hear that?

@@NEALBABBITT The comments about the turmoil at Zildjian in the early 80's was mentioned by Andy Zildjian in fairly recent interviews. There's one from Andertons in England. There's another interview on this podcast. There's also another I'm podcast form that pops up on a Google search. Also get ahold of any interviews with Robert Zildjian. If you study his facial expressions you should be able to read between the lines. Paul hasn't been employed with Zildjian since Jan 2021. There's a thread on the Drummer world forum about Paul.

@@Assimilator702 but what would Andy's Elgin know about Paul francis? And Robert passed away quite a while ago so how would he know anything about Paul francis?

Sabian has been my main brand ever since the company was created. I was a teen when I first heard about Sabian as I was starting to play drums.

I'm someone who is obsessed with the 20" Sabian AA Sound Control Ride and 20" HH Sound Control HI-Bell Ride .... I have a few rare flange rides as well... that's all i play and like many of us I've played what seems like everything
