The History of Springfield in The Simpsons 

Thanks for having me guest for this video! I wasn't expecting the full stylistic homage! Great work! 🤣 (Also Shelbyville is a very weird place and I am glad the show is set in Springfield.)

Remember how Jimbo and Kearnie were against cutting the head off Jebediah yet they were shown doing it in the intro? Remember Lisa found out he was really a pirate. Maybe Jumbo and Kearnie found out the truth later on and believed Lisa?

I believe i would go and visit the Simpsons themselves. Thank them for all the joy they brought to me....THEN go to the krustyburger.

I enjoy Springfield. Sure its founded by a pirate, but its a colourful place full of lovable people, mobsters, drunks, evil corporate businessmen and a very passionate baseball field! Not only does it's town hall like to break out in song on occasions, it's got one Helluva Burlesque House that do put the 'SPRING' in Springfield!

Thanks for this cohesive video. I have previously thought that nothing in The Simpsons is as flexible and bowsing as the history of Springfield, which bends every time to the demands of the story that moves the episode forward, for example, sometimes Jebediah is canon and sometimes not. But this video helped me understand that history has managed to keep its cohesiveness unlike I thought.

After all these years we still don't know what state they are in lol

Yeah The Simpsons movie does seem like a good place to end it. However many years later there was episode 500 I think and The Simpsons themselves moved to a nearby small town to getaway from Springfield, but then Springfield just move themselves over to that town and took over so that's something else that happened later on but oh well.

This is just a more entertaining history of post-war America.

Springfield has history and time even though it seems timeless and the characters not aging except the Spucklers and some on the outskirts of town.

I also think Springfield is in Oregon, it's got lakes mountains beaches and deserts, thats where it lives in my head anyway

My pet theory is that Springfield is located in Virginia. It's history goes back all the way to colonial times and Virginia was one of the first British colonies in the Americas. Furthermore Jebediah Springfield once attempted to assassinate George Washington, who was from Virginia. Flash several decades and Monty's grandad Colonel Burns owned slaves which indicates that Springfield must have been in the south where slavery was legal. And considering how Virginia saw a lot of action during the Civil War, its no surprise that there were battles found at and around Springfield. Also Virginia is a coastal state, which makes sense since Springfield has a port with access to the sea. Then there's the fact that Virginia has an army base, navy base and air force base, all of which have came up and played a part in certain episodes.

One of the best Simpsons related memories I have is of a birthday party in Brooklyn,NY for the bass player of the all female punk band, The N.Y. Rel-X (from NYC, duuuh, not D'oh!), and two guests there..legendary punk guitarist Dez Cadena(Black Flag and Misfits particularly) and the incredibly beautiful vocalist of NJ band 'Banner of Hope'; looking over and naming every (at the time) character we could name. All while decently drunk..good times indeed.

I’d visit the Simpsons and get acquainted with them; after that, I’d take them on separate adventures. For Bart: -See a movie at the Aztec Theater -Do some parasailing on Lake Springfield -Pull several pranks on Milhouse -Set off a series of events that gets Springfield Elementary School closed for a year For Lisa: -Spend some time at the library -Tour Fort Springfield and Olde Towne Springfield -Buy her a new saxophone at the music store -Go to a school concert at a gazebo in the park and hear her saxophone solo For Marge: -Go to the Springfield Mall and buy her a new wardrobe -Do some painting in the park -Attend services at the PresbyLutheran church -Do some baking -Plant a potato garden -Give her lots of hugs and a shoulder to cry on as she always has to keep everything together yet she clearly needs to get things out of her system For Maggie: -Play in the park -Take her to a Chuck E Cheese type restaurant -Tour a play doh factory -Get the other babies out of the Ayn Rand Daycare Center All three kids: -Attend a taping of the Krusty the Clown show For Homer: -Bowl several games at the bowling alley -Go to Moe’s and help Moe in several shenanigans -Go up in the helicopter with Barney for a tour of Springfield -Go to the power plant, hang with Carl and Lenny, find several interns to take the blame for one of Homer’s incidents at work, and find a way to keep Smithers and Burns at bay After that, I would spend some with Ned Flanders as he would be pretty cool to hang out with despite his rather intense religiousity. Once that is done, I’d have to do at least a few capers with Mr. Burns and/or Fat Tony as that would be the only way to keep Smithers and Burns at bay while I was at the plant with Homer. If I managed to keep my sanity and not go to jail; I’d consider having a second home there.

If I ever went to Springfield 1st I'd go to Noiseland Arcade, shop and Androids dungeon followed immediately by the much better and probably cheaper Coolsville Comics, and end with a Space Mutants movie at the Aztec Theater

As someone who lived in the real Springfield, Oregon for 9 years, trust me, it isn't as interesting as the fictional one. If we have a nuclear reactor, I've never seen it. Krusty Burger isn't a thing, sadly, but we _did_ have the first TacoTime, which is now a 300+ location chain so that's something. There's some incredible Simpsons art scattered on walls across town, and nobody paints over it because it's so good and/or it was a commissioned mural. Shelbyville does technically have a counterpart, being the much larger Eugene, Oregon. Just a short 5 minute drive and you go to the land of dispensaries and track and field. Anyway, uhh, there's cool art here

OMG I've had that guide to Springfield book for probably twenty years. I didnt know other people knew about it.

Id go first to the Springfield Retirement Castle to give Abe and his friends some hugs. I lost both of my Grandpas within a few years of each other (one in 2019 and one in 2022). Abe is one of my favorite characters and I used to work with seniors before my asthma got worse and PTSD as well (long story)

I remember when the movie came out and they had that contest you get to pick where Springfield is located in the United States. I took part in it thinking that obviously they would pick Springfield Ohio my home state because Nancy Cartwright is from Fairborn which is right outside of Springfield Ohio. But no they picked Springfield Vermont because there's a nuclear power plant nearby apparently.

I want to visit Frink. He would have some cool stuff. I have had a thought about why Springfield has so many different areas, it may be possible that Springfield includes it's surrounding areas under the "Greater Springfield Region" as well as the town of Springfield itself. And you know, something occurred to me. Even if Jebediah was an evil pirate, that doesn't directly invalidate him being the founder and folk hero for Springfield. On a side note, I know I am sounding pedantic here but Shelbyville having Speedy Mart doesn't really work because Kwik E Mart is a franchise, not an independently owned store.

A clipping of his hair proved he was poisoned. Another comparision question is was Kennedy given a toupee after he was shot from the front in Dealy plaza when the limo stopped. If they exhumed his body and there was no toupee then it is him. If there is a body with a scalp then it is probably J.D. Tippitt because Tippit bore a resemblannce to Kennedy and nobody took the time to get the remains of his scalp from the area he was shot in.
