Yeah, Best Visual Effects is one of my favourite Oscar categories, too. Like Daffy Duck once said about Visual Effects (in a 'Looney Tunes: Back in Action' featurette), "...the stuff the movie people do to make things that didn't really happen look like they really did!"
It is unfortunate that despite all the hard work the artist put into these visual effects, they would get worse reception than praise for bringing such beautiful visions to life.
Feels like Oscar voters today seem to favor realism over stylization like when First Man won over Avengers:Infinity War, but that's just the inner fanboy talking. Wait a minute! Ub Iwerks collaborated with Hitchcock?!
Why is it that some revent telecasts are more about making fun of visual effects rather than respecting them? They did not need tobhave a sketch about cocaine bear taking away time from the speech
