Every time I listen to a new song by the Doors I'm genuinely surprised by how great and different each one is. I love how consistent and incredible their albums. A group that is so underrated amidst a bunch of others...
i remember in the early seventies i did some horse trading with a friend and got my first home stereo. Riders on the storm was the first song i heard and it was over then. i was amazed by the music and words.
If break on through had come out on a later album I bet it would have shot up the charts! People weren’t quite ready for the meaning! It would have broke on through in 1969 !!
Have you listened to Tightrope Ride from Other Voices? One of my favorite doors songs, although I do agree they where never the same as a group after Jim passed.
Jim had the poetry and Ray said let's get a rock band together we'll make a million dollars and Jim said I don't care about the money I want the life. Unfortunately he got it and it killed him. You're right though about Rick and the Ravens but that band dissolved and the doors came from the ashes with Rick on guitar and Ray's other brother jim on harmonica but the two of them didn't see it going anywhere so they left and Robby came in on guitar.
I have been a Doors fan since the 90's when I was in 10th grade at south Torrance high school thanks to my late dad who introduced me to the Doors in the 1990's and now I continue to listen to the Doors like he did in his hey day
Flash Wilson, I agree. Those crude punk police cops tried to break great Jim Morrison, and Jim was traumatized from it all. It took it's toll on Jim Morrison. It is so sad.
21 people don't know what good music is. The Doors were a great rock and roll band. They started out by playing rock, psych rock blended with jazz and a few other genres and that formula worked and they used that for their first two albums. They expanded into doing blues, acoustic songs and coming right back to blues for their 6th and final album with Jim. I have 70s pressings of all 6 albums on LP, The Perception box set, 5 DCC Compac Classics gold discs, Self titled and Strange Days 2 LP 45 RPM sets by Analogue Productions and some official live concert CD's. Also have some official DVD's of the Doors documentary and live shows. I am a huge fan and of the band and always will be. Patiently awaiting the next Doors release.
PearlJammer07 I get why they may put a dislike here. The video isn't made well. Doors are my absolute favourite, and this vid doesnt show the real spirit of the band, just the charts and stuff like that.
I would say the truth is that Jim simply burnt himself out..he wouldn't want to fade away...what a brilliant word man he was and a master performer of life itself..He was the first true ROCK REBEL
Jim did not OD. His death was from his years of alcoholism. When he died he had blood coming from his mouth and nose because he had many severe coughing spasms and frequently coughed up blood. Over time it killed him.
+MojoRisin Jr. I think he did OD on heroin. Jim was strong as fuck most of his adult life even when he was slightly overweight. Plus, he had a hell of a tolerance. i think he mistook heroin from Pamela and OD like Danny Sugarman said
2:43 The young people complaining about the doors back then. What would they have to say about the decay of 'music' today and the rap hip hop garbage that promotes violence and vulgarity? About groups that use autotune instead of real musical instruments? The Doors were ahead of their time and one of the best groups to come out of the 60's. Jim Morrison was definitely one of a kind.
Actually, among hard-core Doors fans like me, THE SOFT PARADE, was so far away from the "sound" that made the Doors that, with the exception of TOUCH ME", which hearkened back to the late 1950's, was a flop
Soft Parade was a mistake in many ways. And Morrison sounds so self-conscious it's embarrassing. He's trying to "sing" so much it comes off as a parody of himself. Never listen to your critics.
Being a true Doors fan, I saw them when they played in Dallas in 68. I worked at Memorial Auditorium where they played. I bought the Soft Parade LP the day it was released. Thought it was an awesome album. A lot of great songs. Loved Shaman's Blues and the title track, Soft Parade. "This is the best part of the trip, this is the trip, the best part, I really like. What did he say?". Wishful Sinful was another one of those greet spacey thoughtful love songs. And Wild Child is as heavy rock as you can get. A great album.
Whatever happened that night in Miami only Jim knew that answer but unfortunately he stated on the witness stand that he was too drunk to recall if he did it or not. But why did the jury decided to say that he was guilty? He almost went down in Phoenix (same place where Jim taunted the audience which evolved into a shoving match) too for drunk and disorderly conduct and interfering with the flight crew but those charges were later dropped due to a case of mistaken identity.
Jim - the genius - used his name to alter it into that expression. Jim Morrison - mr. -- third letter and one of the r's, Mojo - Fourth letter M; O, one of the two o's; J first letter; O, the other one of the two o's. "And you know all the rest. Did you have a good life when you died, enough to base a movie on?" jimmorrison, mrmojorisin
Best American band without a doubt in the 60's. Their music lives on to this day. Shame the highly conservative media of the time thought otherwise. Just goes to show they have no idea about artistic brilliance and non conformity.......THE DOORS LIVE ON!
The thing with "The Doors".... sure they promoted themselves, they had too but they didn't compromise on their sound and lyrics. When you come down to it.... it was some pretty dark stuff. "When Your're Strange", actually played on Ed Sullivan. How the heck Ed allowed that I'll never know. Ed always wanted "wholesome" acts. Think back or research it.... mid 60's. It was just at that time that Rock started to get hard... and when I say hard, yeah, more powerful music and controversial lyrics. A few of the big Doors' songs were written in 1966. The Rolling Stones were doing some darker stuff back then too but other than that very few.
Jim Morrison died in women's restroom of Rock n Roll Circus, snorted China white heroin which was too pure killed Jim who was scoring some smack for Pamela 🖤 Paris, France July 3 , 1971 🖤 🌙🌙🌙
The earliest in records are those represented in the paintings of some Egyptian tombs, in which they are shown as single or double doors, each in a single piece of wood. Doors were once believed to be the literal doorway to the afterlife, and some doors leading to important places included designs of the afterlife. In Egypt, where the climate is intensely dry, there would be no fear of their warping, but in other countries it would be necessary to frame them, which according to Vitruvius (iv. 6.) was done with stiles (sea/si) and rails (see: Frame and panel): the spaces enclosed being filled with panels (tympana) let into grooves made in the stiles and rails. The stiles were the vertical boards, one of which, tenoned or hinged, is known as the hanging stile, the other as the middle or meeting stile. The horizontal cross pieces are the top rail, bottom rail, and middle or intermediate rails. The most ancient doors were made of timber, such as those referred to in the Biblical depiction of King Solomon's temple being in olive wood (I Kings vi. 31-35), which were carved and overlaid with gold. The doors dwelt upon in Homer would appear to have been cased in silver or brass. Besides olive wood, elm, cedar, oak and cypress were used. A 5,000-year-old door has been found by archaeologists in
Break on through was unsuccessful in terms of charting on billboard peaking at #126. Even know it isn’t recorded I can only assume it eventually charted higher considering THE DOORS self titled album started climbing the charts immediately. Regardless of charts this song became very famous to every doors fan after light my fire was released and a concert staple indeed.
