The History of the Nox (Stargate SG1) 

It's a shame that stargate never truly explored the nox more.

I still think the Nox met by SG1 were their people's "back to the earth" primitivists, and Lya was sent to help the Tolians because she was the Nox's leading expert on human behavior. We never did meet the city dwelling Nox.

we need Stargate SG1 to come back so we can find out about the Furlings; they were never introduced.

The Nox was one of my favorite races on the series only wish they had featured them in more episodes

The Nox realized the mistake of the Ancients in regards to ascension.

Their levels of pacifism are quite ob-nox-ous.

Everybody loved Lya. She was cute as a button (although I'm not sure how Quark from DS9 made it to SG1). 😆

Nox are the space hippies of the Universe....

I suspected that the Nox were beyond the ancients in terms of technological capabilities. During SG-1's first encounter with them, O'Neill shoots at Apophis, when he disappears, that arrow passes right through where he was standing. This implies that the Nox arent simply making things invisible like they do with the fenri, they are pulling the person out of phase or beaming them away. This is being done by an individual Nox, not a ship like with the Asguard or a console or totem, like the Ancients. Lya uses the same ability to disarm the guards in the gate room when she is rescuing the Tollans, they guards weapons disappear, not just become invisible. They possess the ability to revive people from death, again without the need for devices. I would have really liked more of them in the original series but I think sometimes less is more, so many stories about the ancients makes them look like fools, Id hate for the Nox to share the same fate.

My son is having an absolute fit at the pronouncing of names/races in this! lol

Fun Fact: Nox is a Latin word. It can mean Darkness or Night. So they are basically "The Darkness" or "The Night", it is funny that Daniel Jackson who studies languages & cultures, never questioned why they are called The Nox given that Latin & Hebrew are very similar to the Ancient/Alterran language.

Symbiotic relationship not symbolic.

I could honestly see their way of living happening for us on earth in the future. As technology advances but so does awareness of self help and healthy living. And a general resentment for war and confrontation after history finally repeats itself so many times, barring a global nuclear genocide. You see some tech bros and well off retired people kind of living off grid but still having modern creature comforts.

I would love to live on the nox Planet no war no hate no violence nothing but peace and love that would be the greatest place to be. And with the technology to turn invisible what need of a weapons would you need you wouldn't need a weapon of any kind if you had that ability.

They sound like they are ascended beings that have tethered themselves to the physical universe in order to better experience it's beauty. Their isolationist/pacifist nature might not just be a choice but a requirement. The floating city is probably just a relic of their past. Something to not only remind them of their past but to show off to potential visitors to give the illusion that this is the source of most of their power. If people think they are just extremely highly advanced then they will fear them and leave them alone. However, if they know they are ascended beings then they will attract worshipers, etc. Thus making it very hard to stay isolationists, etc.

That episode from season 1, The Nox has had a special connection to me since I was like 6 and I have no idea why.

I don't think their disappearing trick and wormhole activation is from their technology at all (Of course they do have high technology). Since they just wave a hand or not even that to make it happen. That means either they have high technology inside their body (but that goes against who they are) or it is because of mental powers they have developed since they are close(r) to ascension. That last one seems to me to be the case.

The Nox are like the N'avi and the Ewoks.

Usually a reason for their noninterference policy is tossed into the background such as once sharing their technology with a more primitive society only to have it used against them and therefore forcing them to destroy the other civilisation or in seeing the other civilisation destroy itself with the technology.

I watched you history of Ra. Is there any description of the Furlings prior to the overthrow of the Goa'uld or any info about them before I go and read all these books only to likely be disappointed?

I believe the Nox (Night in Latin) have their technology integrated into their very cells (highly advanced nanotechnology). This makes sense as their "leader" simply waved his hand in the air and their city hovering above appeared. Their city could also be based on Ancient technology, or they did this first. It may be safe to assume their city has the ability like an Ancient City Ship to jump into hyperspace using ZPM, and probably moves from place to place around the planet to inside the life below is cared for and undisturbed. But, those branches and adornments around their heads may be far more than they appear. Advanced biosensors thar give them a "read" of their current environment, the life both hostile and non hostile in their surroundings. They act as a sort of "cats whiskers" and enhance their sensing abilities. They may also have embedded biotech for healing others, reacting to situations, and their stealth tech may even be biological. Their skin may contain light wave bending or light absorbing cells that can be activated by their thoughts. They can cloak other objects possibly by the Nox being able to extend their cloaking field, or even changing the "phase" that an object is in thus making it not only invisible, but unable to be felt as well.

The title is history of the nox, but you dont talk about their history at all, you just mention some facts, so the video should be called facts about the nox

Nice that these videos exist so thanks to whoever created them. That being said, I get the impression that the narrator is not exactly a knowledgeable Stargate fan, and was just reading text. First of all, he mispronounced Skaara’s name (any Stargate fan knows the correct pronunciation). Secondly, a couple of times he referred to the Nox as having a “symbolic“ relationship planet’s plant life. I’m pretty sure the term that should have been used in that context would have been “symbiotic”. 🙂

I have a big question that I must ask what happened to them you know because the Ori had invaded our galaxy and they were using Stargate Network to travel the Galaxy cuz they want to take it over and you what I'm asking is what happened to them did they get defeated by the Ori or the day just cloak a hotel planet

I don't think the knox could have made it to where they are now with that attitude... but... now that they are way more advanced they certainly can live like that. At the end of the day it always comes down to power and you need said power to follow these rules. That's what always weirded me out about them... you can't just be a pacifist you need to be powerful enough to be a pacifist and în order to get there you need to survive the vast golf of time when you are not powerful enough to be a pacifist.

Close behind Babylon 5 is Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis again the cast storylines and believable characters it contains ever get tired of watching this series excellent

id actually like to think the nox use their mental abilities to control their environment as opposed to technology. In many ways also I am glad that the writers left the nox alone as I would hate to see them enslaved or damaged and from what I have seen of them they were ten steps ahead of those who would mean them harm and knew exactly what to do when given enough time.to do so. The only time they didn't was when lay was too close to shakl and ended up slain. Definitely my favourite from the original series. would love to see the the furlongs though just to get a feel of what they were about.

You don’t have to be a Nox to know that regular plants have enough proteins in them, you don’t need anything special prepared. Plants are amazing. 😜
