The History of U.S. Military Air Power - World War 2

Air power plays a crucial role at the end of World War II. As long-range bombers dismantle the German infrastructure in Europe, fighters provide cover over the advancing troops. The pattern in the Pacific is essentially the same. A B-29, the Enola Gay, brings the war to a close by dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. See the U.S. Air Force emerge as a separate service and moves into the Jet Age.

I restore exteriors of old building in Society Hill, Philadelphia, In short, I'm a house painter. Fifteen years ago I painted a house on Lawrence Court, the man I was working, Major Harrison was one of the original Tuskegee Airmen.... it was thrilling to meet him. He was the head of the Peace Corp in Africa

I'm 83 years old. So the world was at war for much of my early childhood. The sound of hundreds of bombers flying over cannot be described. It was a throbbing roar that seemed to penetrate everything.

@@MrNoodlesforall A roof over my head, clothes on my body, food to eat, not being forced into religions that I don't believe in, the opportunity to better myself every day. And being thankful that I live in a country that has a Constitution that guarantees my rights. I was injured on my job, falling 50 feet to the ground on a construction job accident. From that I'm paralyzed from my chest down. When I was injured, so many people jumped in to save my life. It took millions of dollars in medical bills. I didn't have to pay a single penny. The only thing that was required was that I focused on my recover so I could live my life. I even have a handicapped accessible vehicle. Not many countries would have done what the USA has done for me. And you know what's even better? If I happen to not like the USA, I can save my money, research where I'd be happy, and go there. But I love the USA 🇺🇸. I'm not going anywhere.

@@grantbuchanan7295 youve said it mate!i couldn't agree more to that bro!that american guy live in a fantasy world!he only sees and hears what his govt told him too.the fact is,in reality its opposite to what he hv said. U.s. govt are the most corrupted and evil in the world! Freedom for america is for another country to suffer! if his govt. Was so good, why people hv to jump in n donate money for his operations? WHERE is his so govt?? Im from Sputh East Asia country, the so called 3rd world country. But, i tell you this,we dnt really need health insurance because our govt had it all covered!if im ill n need to go to our govt. Hospital, As a citizen,i only need to pay $1 registration fees to see a doctor, The check up and medicines are all FREE OFF CHARGE! And i only had to pay $5.00 registration fees to see specialist doctor.and F.O.C. for children under 1 yrs old, pensioner and elderly for minor treatments. School, text book for children age 4-18 yrs old all f.o.c. And i can go on n on.. I am proud of my country as My country treats their citizens much better than in u.s. I felt more freedom &safe here than if i was in u.s. with their so called 5th amendment rights for any person to owned a GUN! And thats why there has many terryfying shootouts witch causing many tragic horrible deadly incidents! Scary!!

For those criticizing the accuracy of this documentary keep in mind it was likely made in the 1950's, well before many of the facts about the war were made public. For example, the fact that the U.S. knew that Japan would attack Midway when they did as a result of the work of their codebreakers wasn't known until the 1970's

You get the feeling that this was a video made around what stock footage they had laying around. Where is the P47? At least they mentioned the P51, a;though I don't recall seeing one in the video. And some of the generalications are laughable. The B17's at midway didn't hit a damn thing.. And the ball bearing production was never seriously curtailed. This video has too much malarkey for my taste.

My late grandmother was a homemaker before the war. When one of her three sons went off to the Island Hopping Campaign with the US Marines she became a machinist. She operated a metal lathe to do her part to help out the American war effort. Despite surviving landings on Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima, my uncle came home a lost soul who rarely spoke to another person until his death more than 30 years later.

There is another factor also about platforms. The US Navy planners in the 1930s did an amazing job. While the attacks were going on, the newer classes of battleships and carriers were already showing in theater; instead of years to do so. Regards

There are some real errors here, beginning with the Battle of Midway. The video leaves the suggestion that Army Air Corps bombers hit the Japanese carriers which of course was not the case. Allied air power played a huge role in destroying the NAZIs, but this simplistic video does not explain accurately just how it did so. I understand how Hollywood gets so much wrong, but you would think that documentaries could do a little better.
