it fascinates the arrogance of nat. geographic to spread lies about Vlad Tepes and even tried to label him as fascist through the narration of an angry confused antifascist liberal, not even mentioning the evil of the ottoman turks who tried to conquer Europe in the most brutal way.
Even the muslims who invaded that part of the world had him in their history book of how he massacred them just by himself and also killed their leader. The legend was real.
Not to say Vlad III didn't have a fierce reputation for ruthlessness, I can't help but feel like some of this is a bit exaggerated for the show. For example, "Drăculea" means "Son of the Dragon" and not of the Devil. Vlad II was a member of the chivalric Order of the Dragon, which is how he earned his nickname, "Dracul".
@@darthpayback Are you able to tell me where you read Vlad's history? If Nat Geo information is exaggerated, I'm not sure what sources would be truthful or not :)
@@tvxyzn Matei Cazacu wrote his PdH thesis on Vlad (though the English version of his book might not be up-to date). Kurt Treptow's book is considered the best in English.
Anyone notice that they spent the majority of their "castle" film in one little stairway/hallway? That's because it's literally the only hallway in the entire castle that looks creepy. They have to sensationalize it and go with the dracula theme. The actual castle/city/grounds are absolutely beautiful. Well furnished and basically just a normal castle.
Apparently i'm being censored on my main account...nice. Romanian here from Brasov(check google maps) historians say this and i quote" Not only was he not the owner of the Bran Castle, but it is unclear whether he ever even set foot there." + there are no historical records of any curse of Vlad. Also keep in mind that his head was send to Turkey as a proof of his death. Please stop mocking and spreading lies about our rules. F you Nat geo for trying to spread lies regarding our history without doing any investigation or talking to any historian. Vlad was, is and will remain a national here here. Cheers.
@@marianne9221 Vlad after his first reign was imprisoned by Matthias (King of Hungary) in his castle (not Bran) underneath the throne room only for a short period of time and after, Matthias married him to a family member and gave him a house to live in.
It's true, they did not find Dracula's body under the place he was said to be buried in. Theories suggest that his head was sent to the Ottoman Sultan, his actual body buried somewhere in Italy. Also Bran Castle merely has tangents with Dracula. His actual main fortress was Poenari castle. Sorry NatGeo... this is less facts and more fake-information to make it seem more scary.
They instantly lost me when they're summing up my country's history with "bottomless well of tyranny, catastrophe and overall human misery"...and it all comes from someone who inspired a character to someone who then had huge success? Yeah, great piece of "journalism." And what about all the torture museums around the world, how about all the cruelty that all humans, at any given point in history have manifested and still do (wars? 🟡🔵 😡) towards one another? Nor sure why the National Geo Channel saw fit to give incorrect facts. Bran Castle is NOT anything to do wth Vlad Tepes for a start. He probably only visited there less than a handful of times during his life and The real Castle Dracula is high atop a mountain range near the River Arges and is called Peonari Fortress. Also his name Dracula meant son of Dracul the A sound meaning Son of. It was his father who was ordained into the order of the Dragon to pitt himself against the evil tyranny of the Turks and the Scandanavian/german Lords who also wanted riches beyond greed. Dracula actually means Son Of The Dragon, NOT Son of the Devil. Wish these tv companies would stick to facts and stop trying to link him to the fictional evil written about in Bram Stokers Victorian Novel. Yes Bram did use Vlads history as a family blood line for his vampire but thats all. So this 4 minutes clip from a company thats supposed to know what they re doing when researching these historical facts really goes to show they were only interested in talking about Vlad in a sensationalised way.
Yes, We in Afghanistan all know it too well. My dad although not directly involved in the fighting supplied weopons/ammunition to be used against invaders.
Vlad the Impaler, Vlad the devil or, perhaps more rightly, Vlad, son of the Dragon. It was really disappointing to see Bean Castle featured because, despite its claims, Vlad was never there. He was a proud Wallachian, not a Transylvanian. It's was Bram Stoker who made him Transylvanian but the real Vlad III was a Wallachian viovode and much more than simply 'The Impaler'.
Dracula means son of Dracul which in turn means dragon. 2:40 What makes Vlad fascist as opposed to any other type of despot like Nero, Napoleon or Stalin. I thought Mussolini was Europes first fascist anyway and I don't think anyone says that except this guy you're talking to. Nat Geo doesn't seem too committed to serious documentary. Like is this a High School student presentation or whatever? The problem with this type of garbage is that people that don't know any better assume that it's factual.
yeah, garbage video. those looking for historical facts will be disappointed. the worst is the museum director, he knows very well he's lying, but still does it, because nat geo is not searching for truth but sensationalism and the museum director gladly delivers.
@@raducodreanu1789 nope. That never happened he was held prisoner in Budapest not Bran. There is no record of min ever setting foot at bran and trust me I live 15km away from it(Rasnov)
Dracul is actually a royal Christian order that rules Wallachia. This included Vlad's grandfather and father. So sad that is video isn't as accurate as I thought it would be. However, it does entertain in sort of way.
Most of information is wrong in this video. It is far reality of history. First of all vlad's father give vlad and his sister to Ottoman and they educated in enderun school which people is educated as an governor in Istanbul. So he and Fatih Sultan Mehmet were in same class some historian say they were swore brother. He is appointed as an voyvoda in eflak-bogdan( romania) by Ottoman Emprie. His father killend by hungarian but after when he were in eflak his approach change to Ottoman. He killed innocent envoy and he attacked many civil turkish residential. After Fatih Sultan Mehmet surronded his castle. He escape and he was catched after he killed it was time to pay what he did.

@@artv.9989 nobody in Romania would pronounce Bran as Braen. Braun is a phonetic spelling in English so Native English speakers can say Bran the way Romanians to.
0:06 "Dense pine" is a false description--there are virtually no pine trees in the Transylvania region. I think the narrator was getting at the large numbers of spruce trees that you can see carpeting the hillsides when you visit.
1. Vlad's dad was killed by Hungarian ruler János Hunyadi, not by Turks. 2. Vlad was grown in the Ottoman empire and was raised as a statesman with children of Ottoman Emperor, later he has been sent to "Lilac State" (Romania) as a ruler under Ottoman authority. 3. He has raised three times, he has been forgiven for the first two times, but at the third time, he was killed and his head was sent to Ottoman capital city İstanbul to proove that he was died...
First of all, that is incorrect, he was burired in a monastery near Bucharest. And second of all, he impaled thousands of Turks and they have rotten at the gates of Targoviste - that is true.
He was ruthless but he united romania and demolished civil wars. He did what needs to be done, Maybe there was another choice but that might not be as efficient as what he did. It was ugly but it was effective.
Bran Castle has absolutely nothing to do with Vlad Dracula. The only connection he has to it is through his Grandfather Mircea The Old who had it constructed. The Hungarians seized it as their property before Dracula was even born. Once again NatGeo demonstrates how they’re fully willing to twist facts/truth in order to get ratings. And the “curse of Dracula” has nothing to do with his death. It was a promise he made to his enemies when he lost the throne the second time and was stabbed in the back by his allies. He fulfilled his promise when he struck a deal with Corvinus, and got the throne back. Thence, the “curse” is completely a moot point. Also, it wasn’t Bran Castle he was held prisoner in, in fact, there’s absolutely no evidence he ever set foot in it. Tour guides just tell Tourists and Hollywood producers wanting to sell a narrative what they want to hear. Poorly done, NatGeo. 😞
Lol, Vlads story is an interesting one but its grossly overrated. Vlad decided that it was a good idea to rebel against the Ottomans. Who did not interfere much with Wallachias inner politics. Empires tend to leave theor vassals alone as long as they aid in wars and pay their taxes. Vlad being the genius he is then started impaling people and burning down villiages like a maniac. When Mehmed finally got enough of his bs he sent an army to end him. His body was never found but he is assumed to have died fighting, so he was probably too disfigured to be regocnised. Also Dracula does not mean the son of the devil. it comes from the word Dracul which was the name of the ruling House of Wallachia. its simply a sirname
Dracul means "the devil" in Romanian (coming from the Order of the Dragon). Draculea (which is how Vlad was called) is like a diminutive of Dracul in the meaning that he is his son.
come on... that guy capture people and impale them, he take the skin of his prisoners. After all of these, you can still use the word ''ruthless'' for ottoman. peh nice joke dude.
Keep the Turks out ... Sounds like a plan But to the biased far left minds at national geographic, that makes him a bad guy Not a bad word to say about Turks Huh NG ?

the entire video is garbage. The author was looking for sensationalism and the museum director provided that, even though he knew he was lying. And btw, Vlad is considered a national hero in Romania and yeah he's still loved and respected.

its beautiful but has nothing whatsoever to do with Vlad Dracula. Castle peonari near the Arges River is the only real Castle Dracula. Vlad had it built atop a high mountain range as a fort against his enemies and so he could have a good view of his surrounding lands.
