Honestly dev history for 11 probably wouldn’t be totally new as 90% of the changes showed up in the leaked build and then no one heard about it until the June 24th event
Edit: wow you all really took this and ran with it. Windows 10 was named as if it was going to be the last version of Windows, and the tech press thought it as well, and it’s likely that you thought it was the last version of Windows until 3 weeks ago. Original: I’m pretty sure they named it “Windows 10” because of marketing. Imagine if the last version of Windows was “Windows 9”.... that’s just so incomplete. Windows 10 makes it feel complete and truly the last version
Continuum, man that word summoned old dark memories of WP. I was a staunch user of WP, ran with it until the very end. Started with WP7 with a Lumia 610. Got sidelined when it couldn't upgrade to WP8 and stuck at WP 7.8. Alright then, got a Lumia 925 (which was cutting edge at that time). Promised Windows 10 Mobile along with all the great features. Got thrown off the bus again (granted, technical issues, but still). Started to lose faith, so picked a 640XL instead of a flagship 950. Then nothing, with this and that, the whole ordeal feels like beta software througj and through. Jumped to Android. I like WP but man it was troubled and full of broken promises.
Yeah if they didnt loose faith in Windows Phone and whopped Google in the ass Continuum is basically Windows on ARM, so it would of been completed by now.
It's so true, even the software in Windows 10 Phone is garbage. Sometime, the phone vibrates without stopping when a key is pressed, I need to pull the battery to restart the phone to solve the issue. The Edge browser is garbage too, it constantly refreshes the page without any reason. The initial input editing is terrible but improved after a few upgrades. It s sad that we will love windows phone.
I loved my 925. I actually had Windows 10 Mobile on it, as it was available for the insider program. I enrolled after Windows 10 Mobile was in public release, upgraded to the slow ring, then backed off into the release (basically the non-insider) ring. Fun times, Cortana was always better in 'beta' on Windows Phone 8.1 than it ever was on Windows 10 (mobile or desktop). Such a shame, especially because its competitors at the time were jokes, the Google Assistant couldn't do anything but searches and basic reminders/alarms and Siri couldn't understand a word you said. As much as I loved my Windows-only ecosystem, I'm glad I was forced to make the jump to Android, and the Google Assistant actually does stuff now (although I still miss people-based reminders).
Me too. My Desktop,Laptop and tablet are all Win10. I have been using MS operating systems since MS-DOS 3.3 on an IBM PS/2 (Yes, kids there was a PS2 before Sony's, LOL!). I wish Windows phones had become more popular though. I had a Palm Treo with Windows mobile at one time. (Yes, Palm actually had phones with a NON Palm OS!).
I agree people treat windows 10 like it’s windows me or windows vista like it’s not that bad and have you ever even tried to use it because if you haven’t then how do you know you hate it and I never had problems with windows 10 and the update things it just asked me if I want to schedule it and I schedule it for like usually midnight when I’m not using my laptop
@@Mason048 Compared to other Windows operating systems it really isn't that bad, however compared to many Linux distributions Windows just feels like a badly programmed/designed operating system to me. It is much more pleasant to use Linux than Windows
I think the color changing setup screen is a very smart idea. The progress is an unknown. But nobody likes staring at one of those progress bars that goes back and forth. The color changing gives you something to know it is not frozen without drawing all of your attention to one widget, like staring at a clock all day.
This gives me mild nostalgia. I remember back in fourth grade, my friend was fooling around with one of the computers and somehow accidentally updated it. How? Idk 10 year olds are strangely talented
I'm pretty sure it was in Build 2014 they announced that start menu and windowed apps would come as a free update to 8.1. Guess they ended up saving it for 10.
I remember gleefully joining that Insider program and watching the OS come together. I joined on while it still was basically Windows 8.1 with a start menu and windowed Metro apps.
The reason they named it Windows 10 is probably to catch up with the trend that versions ending with 10 or X looks much cooler, and I think they did the same as what MacOS did, ending with MacOS X and continues to update it occasionally.
I loved 10 back in 2015, but I feel the UI and general upkeep from Microsoft has really gone downhill over time and at this point it’s so annoyingly inconsistent that I have just bought a Mac! (I had gone back to Windows 7 for the past 2 years or so.) I feel crazy and never thought in a million years I’d ever leave Windows. I hope one day I can feel happy to go back.
10 was never good. It was always unstable, inconstant, clunky, and just ugly. Its basically just a minor backpedaling of the shit show that was Windows 8 but is still worse than Win 7 (which wasn't exactly good but was at least consistent and stable). If i could i would be using Linux full time by now however the software ecosystem simply isnt there yet and i still need Windows for work and MUH GAMEZ. I cant even just use Win 7 anymore because it doesn't work on new hardware and gets no security updates. I feel like Microsoft is holding me hostage.
ScrewB well if you dont care about *shhh* illegal stuffs, get a copy of Windows 10 2018 LTSC. It’s basically Windows 10 like Windows 7. No feature updates, no frill store apps, no telemetry, literally just the OS. And then if you don’t like the start menu you can always use StartIsBack or OpenShell to bring back the Windows 7 one.
Why did you buy a Mac 😢 they’re just about to release new ones next Monday! Plus, they’re doing the ARM switch which could potentially mean your Mac could be dropped for support earlier than usual. I wouldn’t recommend the 1st gen ARM ones either though, just a heads up.
@@screwb1882 Windows10 is lagging because of your PC is bad or not that high spec. İt's lagging in my pc too but my friend has a good pc and he says it isnt lagging. And no one can make a design that will make everyone happy, like the PS5 design. some says good but some says not. sorry for bad english
Can you make a slideshow of the screenshots from the faces of Windows from 3 up to the latest build of Windows 10? As a transition video to let us see how Windows changes over time? As a summary of all the history developments of the OS versions. I watched it all and it is so great. Thanks!
I actually disagree. My experience was bad almost all the time. One failed update due to an unknown error (Truly unknown. Not even Microsoft themselves knew that error code.) here, one blue screen there ugh. I had great experiences with Windows 98 SE, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 8.1 (after Update 1) and the early Windows 10 versions. The later versions of Windows 10 are shit and yet, here I am using Windows 10 20H2.
video idea: Upgrading through all of the windows 10 beta builds EDIT:On real hardware and a vm for a comparison to see if you/we would get errors throw at us left and right like some of your other videos
I remember going onto the Microsoft website during 2013-2014 (I don't exactly remember) and seeing a link to join the insider preview and test the upcoming Windows 10 operating system and I immediately joined, set up a VM and installed it to try it out. Then after a while, once the builds had become more stable, I replaced my main OS with it and even though that could have been a stupid move, it worked out in the end.
lol the reason windows 10 has majority is because microsoft kinda forced everyone to upgrade lol, its either use an old operating system and use a vulnerable os, or windows 8.1, ew.
11:34 I believe that Microsoft named Windows 10 with this number, because they wanted to use 1, similarly to the Xbox One, but Windows 1 already exists, so they just appended it with a zero
@@a.m.653 I meant that in 1909 update during cleaninstalation you had to unplug internet if you wanted to avoid dealing with setting up Microsoft account, which was a real pain in the ass when I was setting up a computer for someone that doesn't use Microsoft Account. As for updating, before 2004 update you had to eventually install any update while shutting down or restarting, now you can do that like it had been before Windows 10 ( you can update or nor). At least that's what I've noticed.
FYI the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is STILL free. You can just download the upgrade tool and use it will convert your Windows 7 licence to a Windows 10 one.
I've been waiting for this one! I remember going to my dad's workplace 5 years ago (I was 9) and him asking me to do what I wanted. I was playing flash games on one of the workstations and he asked me to install windows 10 on all the 5 computers in the workplace. I felt so important. Shame that place got shut down.
Only if you have Professional, Education, or Enterprise editions. Home removes the option if an internet connection is detected, and 10X might do away with local accounts entirely.
@@elifarmer3815 Very strange. Is this with the latest version (20H1)? I've only installed PPIPro and Enterprise in a VM so far which still have the local account option. EDIT: Installed Professional 20H1 in a VM and the local account option is still present in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
"Unless Microsoft makes Windows 11..." Well here we are I'm just waiting for the public beta so I can install it on my main pc While running the leaked version on my secondary pc
I'm bored with Windows in the last some months, I became interested in Linux and mostly Mac. Because Mac has more free apps and is a POSIX (this made MacOS able to install tar files and Homebrew simplifies the process) and Linux has a large community of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software). The both UI looks cooler for me and Mac has many features for creative/hard-working people (also the apps are work-oriented and less gaming, I am not a hardcore gamer and I'm much interested in art)
Yeah, at least Apple did it correctly with a separate UI for each platform. Not like shitty 10 where it's just a jumbled mess of horrendously large Tablet UI components (desktops) or horrendously small Desktop UI components (tablets). Just split the UI into one like 7 for desktops and one like Windows 10 Tablet mode for tablets. For 2 in 1s there should just be some mode that can toggle it.
We actually did a preview of Windows 10 for our assignment in college, it was a lot of fun researching and messing up my laptop with previews of Windows 10 😂
I'm not a fan of the aesthetics of Windows 10. One issue I have is that they had all the power they needed to make Windows Aero look even better, but they threw it out the window (if you'll excuse the pun) for a boxy and boring-looking style. Another issue I have is that the "minimalistic" style of Windows 10 is a little too minimalistic. Android phones do better with the solid colours because the style is more fluid and dynamic, with icons changing and contorting, but Windows 10 icons have little movement to them.
That’s half the reason why each update they bring causes issues. Luckily I’ve not had this problem. What was even the point of One Ecosystem when they’ve already abandoned Windows Mobile the same day as Windows 7 support ended due to extremely low demand
I have a windows 10 PC and it’s great. I think it’s from 2015 or 2016. I also have a Windows 7 laptop and it won’t update which I am kind of glad because I also like Windows 7. Windows 10 and 7 are the best operating systems Microsoft ever made.
Man, I remember playing the Battelfield Hardline beta with a Windows 10 Insider build. It ran better on older hardware than the final Windows 10 builds (even the current ones in June 2020)
I think Microsoft still supports both XP and 7 part-time, with the one-time updates in a random period of time. Even Microsoft still released another update for XP back in 2019.
@John Chaser It's not like we have a compatibility layer capable of running games made explicitly for Windows or anything. Who could even begin to comprehend the existence of such a thing? Next time, do a little bit of research before commenting. (I hope the sarcasm here doesn't go over your head but considering your comment I felt the need to leave this here just incase.) And even if it did mean a lack of games, I'll take that over privacy invasion, forced updated and horrendous security practices any day. Not to mention after using Linux for a while now, I've got no clue how people fed up with using Windows as a daily driver, it's so inconvenient.
@John Chaser A good majority are, most of the ones that don't use overly invasive anti cheat, and those are games I can find my self happily living without, wouldn't play them on Windows either if I'm to be honest.
Windows 10 was not the first OS from MS to give customers the opportunity to preview beta versions. MS began that program with Windows Vista, and I still have the Vista CD that MS sent me when it was in beta. The beta preview program was posted on the MS website and was available to anybody that signed up for it.
Agreed. Also: Imagine using a Datamining OS with Tablet UI crap stacked on top of it made by a corporation that forgot that desktops actually exist and not using something better.
