I was the designer on the Winx Club dolls for Mattel 2008. My dolls were Daphne the Nymph, Bloom's Magic Vanity and The Winx Color Magic Wings collection.
@@deedeedoodle2844 Honestly, I do not remember discussion about those characters. Marketing would have been involved in those discussions with the licensors and not the designers.
I’m def not an expert on the distribution of the winx dolls but from what I can remember reading, smoby was the distributor of winx dolls in areas like Germany France, the Netherlands, etc. and Simba was actually an official producer of the dolls for a short period of time in 2009-2010(?) while witty actually only handled the distribution. Witty is under the Rainbow umbrella of companies so it was inevitable that they would have took production into their own hands around season 5 which is when the quality took a major hit because witty just doesn’t know how to make quality dolls 😭 that’s also why it’s so hard to differentiate witty dolls from simba dolls because witty literally just recycled sculpts from previous companies for their dolls, (they very likely would have kept using the simba head sculpt forever had iginio not asked them to start using the jakks head because he liked the look of the jakks dolls so much) There was also a small US toy company who tried getting distribution rights to the witty dolls back in 2020(?) but nothing ever came of it. A lot of this information used to be up on the unadinoi winx blog but has been essentially wiped from the internet, after the blog was deleted which is heartbreaking.
Actually in 2020 they got back at us stores, after 6 years, with original sirenix in season 8 head, and i think their new collections may get in us too, not sure
Idk if I missed this or if you forgot these dolls, cause I used to have these Enchantix dolls from Mattel (I think it was Mattel) with *very* solid wings (idk what material that was but it was rock hard and you couldn't move them) that could glow when you'd press buttons, which were located on the wings. The dress details however were literally *non-existent,* but it was my childhood :'))
I believe rainbow liked the jakks pacific's face and head mode a lot so they asked jakks pacific if they could use it on the witty dolls and they agreed
OOOOO I wanted Winx dolls as a kid SO BAD. I was obsessed with Winx Club but the only merch I ever had of them was a coloring book. There was an ad for the dolls on the back though, and I would daydream about getting one. So thank you for this video, it was a lot of fun! The faces do bother me though. The eyes are so hard to get right, and they're all so expressionless. The characters in the show are so vibrant and expressive so to see them all with blank stares feels wrong. My favorite part is probably the hair. Based on looks alone, they're very pretty!
The Giochi dolls will always be my favorite. I have the enchantix dolls and bought them when they first came out. I’m still planning to buy the magic winx versions
Wow! I'm so glad you've made this video about Winx Club dolls. I'm really impressed with your detailed research! I've been collecting them for years and I do wished I had kept a few rather than donating them. But I still have a lot of them in my collection, and there are several more lines I wished I had gotten my hands on when I had the chance, such as the Mattel's Enchantix and the Princess Ball lines. Mattel's version of them may be small, but I just love the details put into them!
Giochi Preziosi is the bigest company for toy distribution in Italiy, it imports most things than are not Mattel or Hasbro. Sometime they'll also come up with new origianl cocepts by themself like the Glimmies for example (they later recicled the concept for the light-up mini figures of Frozen 2) but most if the time they stick with just importing stuff. The majority of MGA and Moose toys are imported here by them for exemple.
I grew up with so many of the Jakks dolls and the minute you showed the Believix (spelling?) Bloom doll, I was HIT with nostalgia and could smell the hair. I used to sleep with that doll and played with her until it broke 💙
I was a huge Winx fan since at the end of 2018 when I discovered on RU-vid and started watching the clips of one of the old seasons and I was now in a new fandom which is The Winx club fandom and I am still a fan to this day
Hi I really enjoyed your video. In my country, Portugal, mattel winx dolls were sold start from Charmix. Then the ones from witty toys were sold until Butterflix. We also only had one jakk pacific doll which was Bloom Sirenix Sparkle Light. Here in Portugal, the distributor of witty toys and jakk pacific is Concentra. There is currently no Winx merchandising here. The last thing we had was a world of winx, kinder maxi surprise egg that had an Onyrix transformation figure and we had the Fate the Winx Saga book.
I LOVED the Mattel dolls! I was so upset when they changed as a kid... still kind of bitter about it ngl XD I want the old Charmix Mattel dolls so badly. Maybe one day I'll get my hands on at least one of them just for the sake of owning one again XD
I wrote a whole dang informative comment but I think RU-vid deleted it so if it doesn't turn up, here's a summary (lmao): Giochi and MGA have historically done a lot of distribution for each other. Examples are LOL OMG, Na Na Na and Giochi's 'Hi: Glamm' doll line (the last of which has had extremely poor distribution). Europe has always gotten Witty/Simba/Smoby and Mattel, but no Jakks (sad life). Mattel actually seems to be easier to find in Europe than in the US, especially in France and Germany. I believe Giochi has always been Italy-only though I have seen a lot of ads for second-hand Giochi dolls from France as well, so looks like France was the luckiest over here.
I had one Mattel Icy as a kid and I thought her outfits and accessories were so awesome and show accurate! Now I collect mostly Mattel Winx dolls and I have 2 of the Giochi Enchantix dolls
About the "copy" of the faces from Jakks, Iginio said that he really liked the face molds from Jakks and did a solicitation to use them, and got it, because Jakks was cancelling their dolls they don't mind it
About the bratz distribution...what i have heard is that mga made deals with other toy companies all over the world to widespread the bratz brand as much as possible
In Brazil we got Winx through different companies, we got a few Mattel ones by Mattel herself, the ones from witty were produced in Brazil by a Brazilian company named Cotiplás and later some witty got here by license I guess...
0:40 because Giochi Preziosi is an Italian brand, and if you find the Giochi preziosi brand on a doll Bratz, it means that they have been distributed in Italy
When it comes to the older models, the Mattel dolls will always be the only ones for me. Most other ones creep me out. I was kinda jealous I never got the original ones but I do have a Musa dance outfit and Tecna enchantix one
I had so many of these dolls as a kid haha, I remember I loved mixing their wings & outfits. So the jakks pacific deluxe dolls are my favorite only because those are the ones I used to have
The first winx dolls from 2009 actually are from Simba Toys, then they moved to Witty, what they do is: witty produced the dolls and Giochi Presiozi distributes them, this is their job.
random childhood memory but it’s kinda relevant. i’m american and when i was 8, my family went to sweden to visit family over there. this was in 2005 and i was *obsessed* with winx club - i had all the mattel dolls. i remember going to a toy store in denmark on our trip and finding mattel winx club dolls. i was shook. then in a different toy store over in sweden, i found even more mattel winx dolls. now as an adult i’m like “….wait why weren’t european winx dolls in those stores🤔”
when i was younger i only had the witty toys dolls and my parents got me them from some site that i cannot remember the name of, i don't remember ever seeing any winx dolls in stores here in bulgaria
I really like the designs for the Giochi Preziosi dolls, but Mattel had a better collection of dolls, and Mattel had more accessories and things included for each doll. The Jakks Pacific dolls also look so pretty with the Believix and Harmonix dolls.
My favorite doll company for Winx Club dolls is... MATTEL (of course!)!!!! I like the first dolls of Season 4 by Witty Toys too. But they have made the Winx dolls so dirty in recent years. The ones that will come out this year in Italy are pure trash! 7:00 Yeah. Apparently, when Jakks showed to Rainbow the faces they made for the US dolls, Rainbow liked them so much they decided to use them too for the European market... and still use them today. 8:58 So, I can't find the article where I read this but yeah Simba and Smoby were two separate companies that distributed Winx Club dolls in different European countries in the 2009-2012 years. Smoby did the first year in France for example but ,one year after, Smoby (if I remember well) was acquired and merged with Simba, reason why there was this change of the logo of the distributor on the boxes. 9:15 You get it right! From 2012, Giochi Presiozi became the main distributor for Europe countries until... recently. 9:25 The release of those Season 3-4 dolls with Jakks faces were mean exclusively for Chinese market... and sadly, this is the only way to get Musa and Tecna Charmix ou Enchantix Fairy dolls.
This is a trip down memory lane. I had Pixie Magic Bloom with Lockette, Flora with Chatta and Layla with Piff (which was my favourite because of how cute Piff was). I also had the singsational Bloom doll. I loved the hair style for Bloom.
Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I cannot STAND the Jakks/new Witty faces. I don’t know if it’s because of the way the face is stamped onto the head or if it’s the style of their faces but they look so damn cheap to me. And do noooooot get me started on Bloom and Flora’s Charmix shoes, which were used A LOT if I’m remembering correctly. They look like elf shoes when I feel like it’s easier to make them ankle boots, which is what they were😭😭😭
I got into Winx Club late. It was like a year or so before the toylines were pulled from the stores when I got the four I had. My first one was the Exclusive Charmix Bloom doll (Her leg snapped off :( ) . Season 5 Flora day outfit or whatever you call it, and then I had Bloomix Musa (Part of her wing snapped) and Stella (my sister broke off her arm unfortunately) I say I was incredibly lucky to get them when I did cause since I have not gotten my hands on any other ones.
I used to own two of the pixie dolls but not the Winx that went with them which I find super peculiar XD I rememeber having the moving wings Flora albeit vaguely.
Oh, I remember having three! If I remember they were bloom, stella, and musa. I think all of them wore their casual outfit (the fairy forms were expensive). Sadly I don't know where they are now, my mom probably gave it away
i know we had winx dolls here in germany since i had some but no clue who sold them... i had bloom and stella from enchantix. but the wings where on stands and could glow. i think they could also make sound but i am not sure about that anymore.
I love the jacks dolls they are so pretty and have the best face molds i just wish i could get all the jacks dolls without being price gouged like i need beilivix tecna and i cant find her. Like why is she so jard to find
OMG i still have in my (now my sister's) doll box almost full Icy and Lyla from Mattel. I feel like im 10 years younger when i think about them. Just bought some new and second hand monster high dolls, that i wasnt able to purchase when i was a child, due to lack of money, but now as an adult i finally earn some money i can spend on dolls.
I got that good vs evil box for Christmas when I was like 10 and I loved the dolls but I always thought it was weird they have icy I wing slot… looking back I wish I kept some of my dolls
0:20 Giochi preziosi is not readed like that, I dunno how to explain how it should be said, I understand it's kinda hard to guess how something should be readed, and even when you do actually reading it correctly is not that easy either
My aunt bought me the racer-fit bloom for my 14th birthday and she refused to tell me where she bought it. For context we live in aruba and you don't find stuff like that easily around here so I'm assuming she ordered it online from america. I gave the doll away when I got older, because it was the racer one and because it was bloom. If it was a Musa transformation doll she'd still be in her packaging on a shelf in my room. Edit: I just remembered that I once met a little girl at the beach with a enchantix flora doll but her clothes and wings were missing. Only reason I knew it was enchantix was because the hairdo was intact. Trust me when I say I was considering stealing the doll 💀 Clothes or not because I was and still am that obsessed 😭
I had a Stella doll but I remember that she only had her Winx outfit and staff, nothing else. If memory serves me right, the wings were solid plastic and magnetic and she didn't have wired articulation. Then again, I wasn't really a fan of Stella, so I barely played with her, I really wanted Bloom, Techna, or Musa.
I had the basic Winx Club Gen 1 dolls: Bloom, Stella, Flora, Tecna, and Musa, with their Magic Winx outfits and season 1 casual outfits. Never got Layla/Aisha, The Specialists, or the Trix. Sucks 😞
This is not a hate comment, I just wanted to let you know that Giochi Preziosi (which is Italian for Precious Games/Toys) is pronounced Joh-ki Prae-tzee-oh-zee.
I have this vivid memory of my neighbors having a Layla doll hidden deep inside a shelf under their bed. I was really jealous cuz Idek where she got it from? like we were in the middle of nowhere in Poland & I wanted a Winx doll too?? Also why did the doll not have one arm???
when i was a kid, i saw a bloom doll in her first fairy form in a rectangular box and it was just her. her outfit wasn't glittery, it looked like only hers arms moved, and she was tall, maybe 13'' to 15''. to this day i regret picking her out for my birthday in Toys R Us. if anyone know where i can find her let me know please.
The only winx doll I ever had was 2004 icy doll. she wasn't my fav character but 4 some reason I chose her. I swear that doll lasted less thn a week cuz those pieces were small...but I dont remember a dvd💿
When I was a kid The 2004 dolls gave me the goosebumps I didn’t like their faces I always that they would haunt my dreams or something but for some reason I loved my bloom doll I always took her to show and tell with me at school but Idk why I was scared oof the other girls but not bloom…
my favorite are the tynix dolls specially the mini ones of the new dolls being made. and i'm stupidly waiting and hoping mattel will remake the winx enchantix dolls just becasue they released the original monster high knowing damn well that winx is not a mattel original XP
Today I found an ANCIENT Flora picknic doll by Giochi Preziosi they just had on a shelf in a toy store. Poor girl must have been in storage since the 2000's. Her box was ravaged. The top was completely gone and she was disconted from original 14 euros to 7. I must say, I am very pleased with her. Her hair is very high quality. I would say even better than some of the gel soaked Rainbow High hair. Though I do tend to pull out a lot of it. The only critisism I have for the doll is that her dress is kinda ugly and the hair colour doesn't fit her character. Other than that I'm extremely satisfied. I would actually want more Winx Club dolls by Giochi Preziosi. Mainly Techna because she's my favorite. But OH GOD THE PRICES!!!
