I remember seeing WWF WrestleFest in the arcade for the first time and being absolutely blown away - it was a total dream come true! 🤩 This game has never left any of my Top 10 favorite arcade games lists and it never will. I never knew The Undertaker was supposed to be in the game (?!) 😮 I’m imagining how that would look from the ring entrance to the stylized name graphics in the ring and moves. Definitely would have been PHENOMenal! ⚱️ Thank you so much again for the amount of effort and work you put into these documentaries. My time in the arcades was a special one and I love reliving those moments with your videos. Take Care! 😊
I appreciate the nice words. This is by far my absolute favorite wrestling arcade game and definitely in my top 10 of all time. I'm glad back at scratch that nostalgic itch
My favorite memory with WWF superstars arcade was that my friend and I misheard Andres’ quote as “ no one can eat mailbox”. It’s still conversation fodder to this day
There actually was a plans for a mobile phone game featuring both classic and modern wrestlers in this style of gameplay and visuals, but WWE cancelled it shortly after announcing it. It actually looked really well done, not sure why it was cancelled.
Scratch that, it actually did come out, but it was very badly done and the trailers for it used mock up footage that looked great, with the actual game that got a release looking nothing like that and having very shoddy gameplay.
This is my most favorite arcade game ever I would always drop 3 or 4 quid in it for an hour or so every time I saw it in an arcade, and it was out there in the arcades for years after it came out. I also really loved MK I & II and SFII & III and TMNT arcade.
Mate, I recently discovered your channel and I'm currently binge watching your videos. Great, well researched content, lots of games I remember and love! Well done!
PatmanQC - History of arcade game documentaries That was the beauty of it....those writers set a standard that many would try to duplicate with varied success for the next 20 years :)
I would love an actual home port of this with modern wrestlers and an expanded roster… But with the actual original graphics. It would be better than WWE 2K20
My favourite arcade game ever ♥️ i used to ride my chopper bike with my brother to the local arcade to play this with my pocket money. Thanks for the video
Trivia: Andre and DiBiase won the WWF tag team championship, but not with each other. DiBiase held them with Mike Ratundo and Andre held them with Haku.
I loved playing both WWF Superstars & WWF Wrestlefest. I was better at Wrestlefest than Superstars. I was able to beat the Legion of Doom & make to about the 3rd or 4th match after winning the tag titles on one quarter. I've got both on MAME & still play both frequently. It would have been cool if they released a follow-up that updated the roster, allowed for 1-on-1 gameplay, & maybe expanded the roster even more.
One of the biggest problems with the WWE Wrestlefest app was the graphics. They were trying to find a middle ground between the cartoony visuals of the arcade and the more realistic modern wrestling games have. This led to the characters having realistic proportions but having a godawful cel-shaded filter over them. The worst offender was Sheamus. One of Sheamus's defining characteristics has always been his pale skin (i.e. being nicknamed the Great White and move names like White Noise and Pale Justice), however in the game, they actually made his skin *white*. His sprite makes him look like a marshmallow or a block of tofu.
The graphics and especially the animation were terrible. You're right, the middle ground they were trying to get just did not work. LOL at the marshmallow comment
Hacksaw Jim Duggan was the man back in the day. loved watching him as a kid. he's stomp around the ring with his crossed eye yelling "Hooooooo" as he hit his opponent with the 2 by 4, good times.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-DocumentariesI heard there was a copy the ps3 or xbox was going to make...but didn't turn out well now that I think about it. youll have to research; its been prob ten yrs now
I unfortunately never had the pleasure of playing this game. Nice job with the vid! Top notch stuff right here. I love your energy in it as well. You can tell you have a place in your heart for what your doing a vid on.
I remember joining a royal rumble game with Earthquake only to be tossed out in record time. Then watching someone else go in and watch it happen to them. Then watch it happen two more times. I think Earthquake is a curse character.
Discovered this game in a local grocery store about 1/2 mile from our house. Me and my brother would walk there just to play it. One day it was gone and this Street Fighter 2 knockoff took its place. Figured it was worth spending our quarters on after the walk. That game was called “Mortal Kombat” in case you ever heard of it....
Ahh wrestlefest, every weekend me & my bro would go down to this local cab office and play this, 20p a go, we took our pocket money of £5 with us and stayed a few hours.
An SNES port would have been cool. They could have added some home exclusive gameplay options. Since it presumably wouldn’t have been out until 1992, they also could have updated the roster. Replace Demolition with the Nasty Boys or add Typhoon to pair with Earthquake as the Natural Disasters. We would have lost Warrior had it been placed after he left after SummerSlam 91 and before he came back at WM VIII, but they could have added any combination of great names like Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Undertaker, Roddy Piper, British Bulldog, Sid Justice...lots of great possible names to choose from.
I have both WWF wrestling games in my home arcade. Converted wrestlefest into a flat screen monitor and working on superstars now. Both are a lot of fun.
Ric Flair sighting, confirmed: Wooooh!! Plus an American Dream Hard Times Promo reference! Great vid! No Demolition Ax for this game? Bill Eadie does NOT approve.
My best friend and I would go through so many quarters because no matter what I would have to hit the DDT before he could pin them with the perfect plex damn it seemed so important at the time lol
Great video! Love this game and it's probably still my favourite wrestling game, not simply my favourite arcade wrestling game. Part of that is nostalgia from playing it in the arcade and the other part is simply because it's a damn fun game that is simple to play.
If my memory serves, you never wanted to play DiBiase in the Royal Rumble mode; he was the only character without a body slam and couldn't toss someone out of the ring.
I love the game and the post. Thanks for the nostalgia of one of the best wrestling games ever and one of the best coin op games that was for more than 2-4 people. NBA Jam and Guantlet make the top 3 in any order.
Saw this in recommended. I own the cabinet, so thanks for this :) Unfortunately, playing as the LoD, you have to be in the PERFECT spot to pull off the Doomsday Device, or the game freezes with the opponent on your shoulders.
Nah you could play as Hawk & Animal on the arcade. Did it tons back in the 90's. Reach that fight with an extra credit in the machine, if it looked like you were about to lose, press P2 start & you became LoD for the 2nd play through.
I will pay someone to make a Wrestle Fest game using like the entire WWF roster of 1991 so make 40-50 guys. How insane would that be with the insert promos?
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Is anyone watching this video tech savy and up for the challenge? Patman and myself can email you details such as the full roster. Who is a face, heel, move set, etc. Imagine having the Rockers, Randy Savage, Undertaker, Bret Hart, among others in this game. Would be amazing!
I don't think I ever realized no Macho Man in WrestleFest! Maybe the roster is supposed to be after his retirement but they left Demolition in there and they were done at that time too.
I think they just wanted to shake up the rosters a little bit. Although macho man was a huge star you would think they would rather have him in the game then big boss man was also in superstars.
Yes. The roster was made right after Wrestlemania 7. (macho man's retirement match ) . technos still should have had Savage in their though . I used to own this arcade machine , brings back so many good memories .
To mark miley if thats true thas to bad because their are all this wrestlers they put were perfect but their are other few wrestlers thei didnt put that in.my opinion they shoulf put and macho king randy savage was one of then the texas tornado is another wrestler in my opinion they should had put he was ther from late 1990 to sometime midle of 1992 in since the game came in1991 thay should put him in their tugboat was another hacksaw jim duggan was another one dino bravo i thing ravishing rick rude should had been in their but it past his time they should had put all wrestlers from late 1990 during zummerslam 1990 time till beginning and midle 1991 istead they brought this game in middle summertime 1991
My favorite arcade game of all time and it's not close. Played it so much I could finish the tag team mode with a single quarter (DiBiase and Warrior are the best tag team by far) and even eliminated every single opponent myself in the Royal Rumble a few times.
I have a Supergun to play old arcade games and this is personally one of my favorites next to renegade and mat mania. Mat Mania is my favorite arcade wrestling game since it was grounbreaking for it's time.
One of my top Favorites for sure which also include battle toads Double Dragon golden ax Michael Jackson Moon Walker, The simpsons Final fight, World Heroes 2, Street fighter 2 and Mortal kombat NBA jam
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries hek yea Patman! My beloved uncle was named Pat, R.I.P., and I loved watching his videos so I’ll probably like yours also. Videos by Pat’s are usually pretty good soooooo you got yoseff’ a new subscriber. Congratulations 🎉🎈🍾🎊 lol. Honestly I probably wouldn’t have subbed if u didn’t respond to the comment but you did, so I did too!
This was in my college's campus arcade in the 90's. I met my best friend there 25 years ago. I pumped more money into it than any other arcade game, and would drive people nuts in the Royal Rumble match by reversing their piledriver or suplex attempts with a backdrop elimination.
Always funny to me that Slaughter was using his very short lived knuckle noogie which is his finisher in the game. Too bad we didn't get the camel clutch. Also significant is when finishers finally became a part of wrestling home games is was still a while before one could win a match with them. I recall Perfect doing a perfect plex as a finisher but it wouldn't actually pin the opponent. This game was so advanced.
If they would've had the the "old-school " Undertaker in that game, he would've probably would've had double the energy, similar to "Legion of doom", i luv this game then and now!
Still remember this clearly- it was at our local small arcade. As a kid who loved WWF and only had an Acorn Electron 'computer' at home to play games, this was one of the coolest things you could lay eyes on. Back then the arcades were so much better than anything you could play at home, it was a case of- how can you NOT go out with friends. Today...
I think in every wrestling game ever made it's like you said best, "if all else fails; throw 'em outside the ring & beat the living piss out of them!" 🤣
There is a Similar gamecoming out this fall but it does not have the WWE license. I think the game is called retro rumble and it has the Legion of doom, Tommy dreamer, Zach Ryder and a few other stars. It's supposed to play like wrestlefest though.
According to the Million Dollar Man, everyone's gotta price. Long story short, that's how I met my wife. Would have been an easy setup and classic Patman joke
I'm playing WWF wrestlefest on my Android phone right now. I got it on my Play Store. It says the game is new by Techno's. No MAME ROM installation stuff, no nothing. It's right there, all you have to do is look them up. WWF Superstars is there too. They play just as good as they ever did.
Ultimate Warrior and Million Dollar Man was the best tag team......but you could use Ted Dibiasi on the council and The Road Warriors are the Tag Team Champs.
