The necklace Thranduil was trying to recover was one he paid the Dwarves to make for his' wife. When she was captured by Orcs, her necklace was taken by them. Later it was recovered by Dwarves in battle. They refused to give it back to Thranduil.

Not quite the story. The Jewels were part of his wife's dowry. After she died at Gundabad, Thranduil took them to Thror to have them set into a great necklace in her memory. Thror decided that the agreed price set to do so was inadequate as they became more valuable as a set than they had been individually. His refusal to correctly fulfill the contract caused the tension. In a sense this was to show how overpowering the Greed, caused by the great wealth of Erebor, was corrupting Thror.

It has been a LONG time since i read the book but if i remember correctly Bilbo gets knocked out early in the battle and is passed out for most of it lol LOTR is still the ultimate classic but the Hobbit is pretty good too imo. Also to answer a previous question you had, legolas is somewhere around 3000 years old more like a teenager/young adult to them, and at this time Galadriel is around 8000 years old. She isnt one of the first elves but shes pretty close.

I've been looking forward to this one for a while! Let me tell you, the neck of my shirt was soaked with tears back when I watched this in the theatre - no sound, just tears streaming. This movie has two of my favourite fight sequences of all time and I'm glad you finally got to see them too! One was of course Lady Galadriel anihilating that orc and Lord Elrond and Saruman fighting the Nazgûl, the other was Thranduil ✨elegantly✨ falling off his elk and ✨majestically✨ slicing through some orcs. I loved to see that same joy and wonder in your eyes that I felt watching this back in 2014.

Actually, in the book it's Men, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs and Wargs/Wolves. In the movie it's Men, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs from Gundabad and Orcs from Dol Goldur.

@@skinnyjax no, the eagles & Beorn turn up in the book as well - Tolkien didn’t split up the orcs just like he wouldn’t have split up the dwarves. Thorin’s troop is from the Lonely Mountain but his cousin Dain is from the Iron Hills and they weren’t considered different armies.

Like I said IN THE MOVIE it's Men, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs from Gundabad and Orcs from Dol Goldur. In the book The Annotated Hobbit (ed. Douglas A. Anderson, p. 339 ) Tolkien writes: "So began a battle that none had expected; and it was called the Battle of Five Armies, and it was very terrible. Upon one side were the Goblins and the Wild Wolves, and upon the other were Elves and Men and Dwarves." Yes, Beorn and the Eagles show up, but they are not considered a separate army.
