I feel your pain but just remember that atleast there was an era with wholesome classic shows. I remember this beautiful theme as a child, I forgot the name of the show at the time but always remembered the theme.
I feel you, it's now 2022, 9 years after your comment and my heart is heavy. We'll never relive the beautiful and innocent times of the 80s, but its sure nice to reminisce.
"Step by step and day by day, reaching out along the way." "Hand in hand we face our fears, together through the years......" ah those were the days of TV.
used to love this show as a kid but it was tinged with sadness cos it was on Sunday evening and you knew it signalled the weekend was over and it was back to school tomorrow
Theme song "Through the years" is sung by Roberta Flack and written by Stephen Geyer and Charles Fox. Fox & Flack, 13 years earlier, each won Grammys for their #1 hit "Killing Me Softly with His Song." Fox also wrote the themes to TV shows: Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Wonder Woman, Love Boat, Paper Chase-- and the original Wide World of Sports & Monday Night Football themes.
Not only that, but the beauty of a show to not only be successful enough to change networks, but to also live on as a series on its own when Valerie left. This show is definitely very unprecedented. : )
i loved watching this when i was little, best thing about those of us who grew up in the 80's we grew up with awesome tv, had awesome toys to play with, life was good then sure do miss those days
Not that many episodes really addressed them dealing with the loss of their mother if any. I guess because they had their aunt there the writers didn’t feel it was that important of an issue unlike full House
zt1053 That would have been rubbing proverbial salt on Valerie Harper’s wounds. You know, considering the show was originally a starring vehicle for her.
@@Joe-ix5hj They kind of already did that when they called the show Valerie’s family the first season she was gone. The dirty little secret about the show was even when Harper was still on it Jason Bateman was clearly becoming the star of the show Which is why producers felt they could do the show without Harper.
Love this show! Watch every episode antenna tv airs, wish they would have a marathon one of the days, and air every episode, they don’t make shows like this anymore unfortunately.
A strange memory of mines led me here, and then I decided to see others opinions and totally lost myself and a vast array of laughter from viewing the comments!
It's interesting. Though I've heard of this sitcom I have never watched it, but at the part that said, "Step, step, day by day," I sang out loud, somehow knowing the lyrics. Then again at "We got closer," & "Special kind of madness." Makes you wonder about the human brain and what's going on in there, and all the things that are locked in there that hasn't been accessed in over 20 years, yet lay in there.
Sweetheart you aint never lied. The simple poetry of *_"Life is such a sweet Insanity, it's nice to know your friends are near"_* or *_"There were times I lost a dream or two. Found the trail and at the end was you"_* is Everlasting Beauty. No Lie, I knew a girl who knew the theme song to Different world... I couldn't keep my hands off of her.😁
Oh how I miss 80's/90's television the last great decade of family sitcoms that tackled heavy stuff in such an intelligent manner. And the music (theme songs and segways) was Amazing. Television nowadays just doesn't have that love for families anymore
It's a damn shame this show is NOWHERE anymore, not even on torrents or DVD seasons. Why is this great show so ignored? This show was very innovative and was a joy to watch when I was growing up.
It's showing now on Antenna TV! Check your local or cable tv providers for the channel. You will love the channel they show only old tv shows=GOOD FUN TV. Most shows from the '50's - '00's (more like 1999☺). I never leave the station!! Enjoy!!!
The real reason these shows were ignored was because it made everyone Happy and Peaceful and independent ... !! So to make more money $$$ They switched to More Violent and Overly Sexy , Glamour TV Shows ... To Make People Buy More ..!! Drugs, Alcahol, Useless Crap, And Become Brain Dead.. Addicts..!! $$$$
OMG, I literally just shed a tear watching this intro...brings back such great memories...I would give anything to travel back to 80s ANYTHING! I hate 2008....
They need to put this on DVD! I miss watching this show. They actually were playing the episodes on the Family channel and then they took it off this week for some reason.
The Goat- Take your 2017 glasses off for a second, Wouldn't say we have way better shows now-We have some shit ones today like we also had some shit ones back then
I loved 'The Hogan Family', I enjoyed both Valerie Harper and Sandy Duncan in the lead roles. John Hillerman played Josh Taylor's dad, even though John is only 11 years older in real life than Josh and 14 years older than Sandy Duncan.
Those get ruined so fast. TVland was retro until it caught the reality TV but. Cartoon Network and Boomerang both started off with nostalgia before they mutated into... something.
@Nkkicute Well I watched the show pretty frequently growing up, so that's more or less what brought me here. But Jason Batemen is a great actor, so it's cool to discover this was where he started off. ;)
