To answer your question at the end of the video: I’m deeply invested in Sudoku puzzles, and the Sudoku community definitely has and there’s one Sudoku app that’s infamous for all of their “evil” difficulty puzzles actually being the exact same puzzle! The grids on each puzzle are the same grid but flipped/rotated and with the numbers swapped. These are called “validity preserving transformations,” meaning that the actual solve path for all these “different” puzzles is the exact same - the same techniques can be used. For this reason, most people who are also deeply invested in Sudoku puzzles also *ultimately* avoid the app!

Ultimate…… when I was a child in the 70’s I remembered doing a puzzle called the compass. For some reason it fascinated me. When I left home, I took it with me. Over the years of moving I lost it somehow and was devastated. About 10 years ago, I decided to look online and found another copy. I bought it and had happy memories solving it. It only took about half an hour for 500 pieces as like you, I am a quick puzzler, but it was very nostalgic. We moved again two years ago, and in a long forgotten box I found my original copy.::::exactly the same picture, but slightly different cut pieces. One was a British release and one was Irish. I made them up side by side for fun and would probably never have noticed. Anyway, sorry for the long comment but the back story was relevant. Side note, my original came with an extra piece that never fit in anywhere, it is not an exact replica of any other piece, it also doesn’t match a single piece shape in the newer one ( it’s a round irregular cut puzzle) I’m wondering how many different versions or cuts of this puzzle there are? Thanks for reading to the end 🧩🧩

Here's my ultimate take on a hobby dupe: I like to sew and am fascinated by vintage sewing machines. Long story short, after WWII, Singer (a major sewing machine manufacturer) granted Japanese manufacturers the patent for their popular Singer 15 model; the goal was to help the country get back on its feet economically after the war. The result were hundreds, if not thousands of "Singer 15 clones," many of which are still around today and all can use the Singer 15 machine manual.

In my Lego hobby, there are many off-brand building block sets that make exact copies of official Lego sets (Lego has actually sued some of them over this), and while the piece fitment isn't as perfect as Lego, unless you were a hobbyist, you wouldn't know the difference. Also, Lego has re-released some of the exact same sets from years ago with only slight modifications (ex. the Taj Majal).

I assume puzzles are cut from the picture side, so the edges are a bit rounded on that side. But the Nordesco puzzle is cut from the opposite side from the Eatons. You must be able to flip the cutter over to cut from either of its sides. I look forward to the day Karen visits a factory for puzzles.
@HeyLetsDoAThing
@HeyLetsDoAThing 11 месяцев назад
It's also possible that, rather than the cutter being flipped, it's the puzzle that was flipped.
@emilyrln
@emilyrln 11 месяцев назад
@@HeyLetsDoAThingflipping the puzzle seems much easier! I imagine the cutting die needs a lot of pressure applied to it, so it'd make sense for only one side to be sharp. It might also be mounted to a metal plate to make sure the whole cutting surface stays flat to ensure a clean cut every time.

While I don’t knit (I crochet) and therefore cannot say anything about knitting needles, yarn companies actually do this kind of thing all the time! Most of the big brand names like Michael’s and Joann’s have their yarns made in other countries (especially Turkey) at factories. This means that the factories, while they are making the yarn for the name brands, will also sell this yarn or the mill ends to other parties for them to market to consumers. This brings in more profit for the factories overseas and is how you end up with a yarn that costs $11.99 per ball from a name brand and only $3.99 from a third party or lesser known company.
@mangosoda7117
@mangosoda7117 11 месяцев назад
And considering the fact that projects take multiple balls, this adds up to HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS!
@AntheaChimaera
@AntheaChimaera 11 месяцев назад
I knit and definitely prefer the more expensive metal or wooden needles over cheap plastic ones. But one thing that was a revelation to me was that you do not ever need to knit on the traditional straight needles. There are also circular needles (basically two very short needles with a cable in between them to hold your stitches). They can be used to knit in the round, i.e., knit a tube (which is impossible on straight needles), but also to knit flat shapes, so they're much more multifunctional than straight needles. For many knitters, including yours truly, they are also far more comfortable than the straight needles, which are more unwieldy. You don't really need to be deep into knitting to discover this but honestly if anyone here is looking to get into knitting and doesn't have a way of borrowing someone else's straight needles or buying them super cheap second hand, don't bother getting any straight ones. Circular is the way to go. There are cheap plastic ones that are fine for learning, though if you fall in love with the craft you'll absolutely decide to splurge on an expensive set of circular ones.😂

Love the night view of the holographic puzzle and I’m sure you are right as I can’t imagine anyone collecting all of these in one place. It’s like you introduced them to each other. I can’t wait for your interactive puzzle museum where you pay to play and get to enjoy puzzle solving along with you and your times and commentary.

Loved your comment about having put in solid effort on a solid colour puzzle 😃 And yes, open and do these puzzles. That is their ultimate purpose!

The ultimate puzzle challenge I've faced is a puzzled called "The Golden Gears" by Ceaco in 1995. This thing is soooo hard. I've tried to put it together a few times, but always have just taken it apart. I'm on my fourth attempt only to find out two edge pieces are now missing. Argh! Why, Karen, WHY did you get me hooked on puzzles again? 😂😂😂

Such a fun video! You are the ULTIMATE puzzle solver. Was glad to see that you are actually human and couldn't resist looking at that one piece to match the puzzle you are working on. But it also warmed my heart that you told us! Love the details about the companies that you add! I can't think of anything in my hobbies that compare to the Eaton facts. Thanks for another great video!

Karen, your's is the ULTIMATE jigsaw puzzle channel, and no one can convince me otherwise! I'm so glad that you didn't have to peek more than once lol, as it's always more satisfying to reach the end under your own power. However, when I'm doing a word puzzle and get completely stuck, to the point where I'm no longer enjoying myself, I peek. I'm not playing to get frustrated and annoyed, I'm playing to relax and chill. This week's puzzle is so beautiful, as are the other puzzles that are in the same vein. I look forward to seeing you do all of them, but mostly I want to see the one with the long stripes of colour, and the one that's all silver. ✌️ to all, from 🇨🇦

I did recently learn that 3 or 4 of the most common wooden knitting needle brands are all made in the same factory, so you're not wrong! It also make me think of Kirkland/Costco and other Private Label 'in house' brands. They are almost always made by a name brand with the other brand named slapped on. I've been told Kirkland Silver Tequila is Patronne and Kirkland diapers are Huggies. The company I work for does some Private Label stuff too, its basically the ultimate knock-off!

I've been doing a lot of diamond painting in the last few months and what I've noticed is that a few companies use the same manufacturers so we're able to evaluate if it's worth it to buy a canvas from a company just by analysing this stuff (the drills quality is something that is a bit complicated to manage and makes a huge difference in the experience and the final result). My ultimate goal is to know enough companies so I can make better choices regarding to where my money's going to lol

I'm a dressmaker, & I was told some years ago that Pfaff & Husqvarna sewing machines are exactly the same machine, on each level (with their own outer shells), but Pfaff is more expensive! The same parent company, SVP Worldwide, now also owns Singer, but I don't know if those machines have had their mechanics/electronics altered to be in line with the other two brands.

this isn't a secret at all if u crochet. But, its kinda interesting because each stitch is the combination of 2 different things (Yarning over/under, going in stitch is whatever way u r supposed to, then yarning over/under again etc)
