The Hololive Dodgers Game Was Something Else 

I'm so pissed my parents went to that game and didn't even tell me it was a Hololive event.

I heard that Dodgers won the game 8-5 which means in Japanese 8= Ya and 5= Go, or we can call it Yagoo score. WHAT A BLESS

I'm not really into baseball, so when they announced this event i thought hololive had chosen these 3 because of their popularity, but then i realized "they're all blue".

Someone on reddit who never knew about hololive and regularly went to games posted saying thank you to everyone because they said the game was so much fun because so many people showed up and all the high energy and good vibes they brought made it feels like it was a playoff game. They also said it was one of the best games he ever went to.

I went to the game and was one of the people that waited over 7 hours for merch (I did get some). Throughout the day I was joking with people that had merch that I’d buy it off them for double or triple the price. Well one dude called me out and asked if I wanted the hat. Well I thought he meant buy the hat, and I didn’t exactly wanted to buy a hat for $100. Well this chad straight gave me the hat. For free. There’s been a lot of complaints (including from me), so I wanted to share a cool story about one of the many positive fan interactions I had that night.

I think I'm gonna have to disagree slightly... hololive entering the US "cultural mainstream" sure is an aspect.. though I would make the argument that a collab with the Dodgers shows this already happened to some extend.. what we can't forget however is how many people watch Dodgers games in Japan.. Baseball is the No1 sport in the country.. and of course the Dodgers have SHOHEI OHTANI, the best player in the world and basically a god in Japan.. the Dodgers in fact at this point have more viewership in Japan than in the US... so it's basically a mutually benefitial marketing gig... holoive promotes the Dodgers (and itself) to the Japanese audience while the Dodgers promote hololive (and themselves) to the US audience.. simply put... that Yagoo guy is a genius...

I went there to the dodger stadium, IT WAS SO FUN but like there was too many ppl on getting the merch tho..., I've been standing in line for almost 4 hrs and the staff in the stadium were like sorry we are sold out..., then someone who was sitting beside me told me that they still have merch, my online frd told me that after game ppl were still waiting in line to get the merch like until 11:00pm dodgers staffs had to tell the fans to go come cuz they need to close the stadium

I never would have expected Hololive to become this HUGE in the US. I always thought the whole vtuber concept was a niche thing here in the US (or anime for that matter), but apparently there's a huge demand for them lol. Yagoo is a fucking genius for discovering this untapped market.

There is no way I am buying Pekora, Suisei, or Gura baseball cards so I did the next cheapest thing. I bought baseball cards of my top 3 Dodgers to remember this day: Glassnow (pitcher), Ohtani (Japanese mvp), and Will Smith (he made 3 homers that day and carried hard)

I stood in line starting at 5 ended up getting my shirt at about 11. Missed a hell of a game in it's entirety. As a lifelong dodger fan and vtuber fan of about 5 years I wasn't missing this merch. I feel bad for the people behind me in line. Not 5 minutes after it was finally my turn to purchase merch everyone behind me was told to leave.

I was so lucky to have been there to make history, I didn’t leave until past midnight, 6 hours of waiting and legs I could barely feel. But making friends and having a blast was so worth it. 7:43 as someone who was there, that was true.

Having your niche interest out in a public space it normally isn't must be an out of body experience. Like "what the heck? This isn't my bedroom! What's going on?"

5:48 Koe, I got there at 5:30pm and left at 1:30 AM! I was in line the whole game and barely got what was left (XL Pekora shirts only). The 40 people behind me didn't get anything and that's AFTER half the line got kicked out of the stadium. The main problem was that it took about an hour for the small tent to setup, and then they only had 2 people for checking out. By the end of it, they just wanted us all gone so they let people take 10 items of each item. I only stayed because a fellow Hololive fan asked if I could get her something since she was in a wheelchair and couldn't wait in the sun for hours. Sadly I couldn't even get her the hat or shirt in the size she wanted. Even with that, I'm happy I went because you could feel the positive energy just throughout the stadium. But I hope they fix that situation next time.

I heard it was a 12 shirt limit and people were literally walking up and down the line of people waiting and re-selling them for higher prices. they were scalping those shirt majorly.

I was in line for the merch for over 3 hours. I managed to get my shirt n cap just before the 8th inning, but I know there were people that were in line for over 6 hours and got kicked out because it was closing time. Imma have 'nam flashbacks next time I go to a dodgers game. Edit: I can wholeheartedly confirm that the limit was 10 ITEMS MAX per person. I had my plus 1 go to the tent multiple times throughout the wait in line to ask about limits, and each time they were told a max of 10. They also communicated to the "manager" of the tent that the line was hardly moving, and the high limit was going to take away the opportunity of the fans further down the line, a chance to get any merch, and the "manager" responded rudely with "I dont care." At about an hour before reaching the tent, scalpers were already re-selling the merch on ebay, and some were even discussing resale pricing INFRONT OF EVERYONE, IN GROUPS. The JP Mercari resale items are by far the worst. I saw the PACK OF CARDS going for nearly $2K USD, not Yen, USD, and they were SOLD. Nauseating to say the least.

I think it's so cool that Cover was able to organize this and I'm all for more things like this happening in the States. I do wonder what the normal attendees and players thought about the whole ordeal. To outsiders, us weebs and vtuber fans have to be a little weird. I think it was a surreal experience for _everyone_ involved.

Even though I'm A Giants fan I'm happy that other than Dodgers Event staff fucking up the merch situation (typical Dodgers) it was a great night for Hololive those drones looked awesome and are definitely better than fireworks

There was one dude who was on reddit speaking about his experience as one of the merchandising peeps. In short, a line that was the longest ever in history for the dodger's stadium, both sides and the dude himself underestimating the craze that hololive fans would go for to get merch, and a hindsight that should've had them stock up the merch in the stores instead of a tent, all for one day. Next time a collab like this happens, I feel like both will know what to do. It still was crazy to see this all happening, but glad it did happen. Also hecc the scalpers.

Damn man, two years in a row I had no idea about the Hololive events in LA. Last year was the Hololive concert at the RU-vid theater, and now it's the Dodgers collab. 😅

I look forward to seeing a collab with the Washington Nationals, probably close to the Cherry Blossom Festival (to get Miko as part of the collab), possibly during a home game while Otakon is taking place. Imagine them wearing the cherry blossom uniform kit, and you have Miko, Calli, and Koyori as part of the collab... 😮

I'm gonna say this for the issue on the merch tent, I think Cover fully expected that it was gonna be a small attendance from fans since it happened same day as the expo. Shirt limit was so much cause they probably didn't think they would have sold much since again the baseball event happens the same day as the expo. If there were another collab next year, I believe they would have a better system in place. For example, multiple booths around the stadium and a smaller limit on the amount of merch people can buy. Adding better security in the lines would help make the process smoother as well.

I love this so much. I basically spend 24/7 digesting vtuber content but I have never talked about it to anyone I know in real life, not even once. So it's basically like I'm living a double life. The more stuff like this that happens, the easier it will be for me to eventually merge the two worlds together into one.

The one thing I'm kinda disappointed that nobody's seemed to document is the first pitch. Yagoo was seen there, so I was under the assumption that he was going to throw it, maybe flanked by one or two of the recurring mascot suits, but I guess whatever they did must have just been either not noteworthy or completely unrelated to the festivities.

Friday games at Dodger stadium during the summer, usually do about 48k. The stadium was at capacity, which is 56k. It's the second largest stadium by capacity and they've led MLB in total attendance for the last 10 seasons, excluding 2020. If Hololive wants eyes on their product outside of their Core, this is where to do it.

I think this was just a test event to test the waters and see how well a team collab would work in the US. If it was just a test, I can understand them not investing a lot into the merch. Considering how successful this was, I expect to see this happen on a larger scale more often. Baseball in the US has been struggling with dwindling attendance numbers for decades at this point. Who knew the solution would be vtubers?!?

The Dodgers have an average attendance of nearly 50,000, so it's not too surprising. If this is done by a team with a small audience like Athletics, I would like to see how much impact it will have.

The funniest part about this was that the Dodgers not only where behind in the game but where also on a losing streak. The same game as Gura, Pekora, and Suisei show up one of their star players hits three homeruns, and after Gura sang the song Dodgers went on to turn a game of like 3-5 to an 8-5 in their favour by scoring four times uncontested in like the final third of the game, winning a sure-to-lose-game and breaking a 7 game losing streak. There where multiple accounts of Dodgers fans, including some oldies, getting Gura merch as she now counts as good luck for the team.

I was in the line for the merch there was quite a lot of older people in line who knew about hololive and there were some parents or friends who didn't really know anything but still went for their kids or friends who couldn't make it for the game/event to get the merch the parents/friends were troopers that night staying in line for 8 hours.

So glad I said F the merch and went to enjoy the game. I’ve been going for years and the energy was insane that night I really hope they do it again!

When I was little, I was a massive Mariners fan and cried when they blew up the King Dome. I haven't followed sports really in my adulthood, but it was replaced with being a weeb. So this is such a weird "Past meets Present" thing for me. Like.... this would've tripped me up as a kid. "Why is the weird cartoon people singing? Is Griffey coming back out?"

They probably also didn't account for the fact AnimeExpo was happening at the same time so a massive amount of fans were around to attend. I know the collabs are to draw people to the events, so just selling online isn't always possible but for something like this they should probably offer an alternative version online as well after. But even then they didnt have enough for the attendance so seems like dodgers screw up. Its kind of understandable though. Sadly was only able to watch it online where MLB cut out everything anyway. So mostly peoples posts on X. Good to see them taking over and it going so well.
