The box cover looked like from the pilot of Tic Tac Dough.

And of course, that creepy pixelated dragon appeared on the cover, the instructions, and the cards where a contestant loses. BTW, the dragon is Spike from MLP FiM, or King Koopa from the “Super Mario Bros.” games. The home version was made in 1977, but the game show itself never made its debut in February 1978. It started on CBS and it lasted for one season, and also premiered in syndication and it remained for eight seasons until the show ended in 1986. Wink Martindale hosted for seven seasons, and Jim Caldwell for only one season which makes it the final season.

I have that game, and it brings back memories of when the late Jay Stewart plugged it at the bottom of The New Tic Tac Dough in 1978 (as I saw it from Game Show Network)... "All of our departing contestants will receive the home game version of The New Tic Tac Dough. It's as much fun playing it as watching it on TV." That said, thank you for doing this, and I think it'll be very informative!

I got this game today and it was great. It has all of the pieces including which includes plastic X’s and O’s, a game board, plastic trays, 42 game cards with questions and answers for each category, bonus game cards that has cash value amounts and four Mean Dragon cards. It plays just like the actual show. BTW, Ideal made a handful of board games including another home version of “Let’s Make A Deal” from 1974, “Mouse Trap”, “Chips Are Down”, “Bing Bang Boing”, and many more. They also made the iconic Shirley Temple doll from 1934 and it became a household name for Ideal. The Shirley Temple doll sold millions throughout the 1940’s right up through the 1970’s and it was still a great item which geared towards girls. The name is still around today which is part of Alex Brands and they’re still making more stuff with not just home version of game shows, just board games and toys made under Ideal by Alex Brands.

I can see why Ideal included multiple dragon cards...one used game site that had TTD for sale included the comment "One dragon is torn (someone lost!)".

The game has three “Mean Dragon” cards, but if they loses one of the dragon cards, you get an extra one. The bonus game starts with only dragon. There was no Tic or Tac, just the cards with the cash amounts.

I have that game! I originally had it from 1979-2001, when I had to sell most of my games at a yard sale in 2001 before my dad and I moved to Florida after we sold our house. I re-bought the game again some time ago on eBay.

I had that game as a kid. Loved playing the bonus game, even when alone.

The best part is the bonus round is to pick any number you want if there is a money, you earn it and you also pick any number you want to avoid the dragon. There was no “Tic” and “Tac” on there, just a straight game.

I read that Geoff Edwards was originally slated to host Tic Tac Dough. Could it be him on the box?

After I saw this review of this board game, I decided to go eBay and ordered this one. And this is the game that I’m looking forward to play it. I have “TV Scrabble” with my recent acquisition of “Scrabble”, the 2013 “Hasbro Gaming” version, “$ale of the Century”, “Family Feud” 2nd Edition from 1979, and “Concentration” from 1978. I’m gonna add it to my collection when it arrives in a week.

Have you ever thought of having a third person play the emcee (Wink Martindale) role (reading the questions to both of you and each of you answering in turn, just like on the actual show)? The reason I ask that is because if you had someone doing that, it'd, IMO, add quite a bit of realism.

Better than "TV Scrabble", but this one kicks butt. We played the game at our day program and we enjoyed it all. It's still a fun game, and a lot more fun. This is far better than the 1990 revival with Patrick Wayne and it was a total trainwreck, but there was no home version of "Tic Tac Dough '90", because the show absolutely failed and it was the worst game show ever. This home version is where it's at. Forget Patrick Wayne, and his catchphrase "YOU WIN!!!"
