My visit to Brunswick including stops at Bowdoin College, the Chamberlain House & Museum and Pine Grove Cemetery where the Chamberlains rest today. We'll see the bullet that nearly killed him, the boots he wore at Gettysburg, his Medal of Honor, and more!

Wow.. died of his wounds? He's was 86 when he died if I count correctly. The wounds he suffered were from 1864 - 65. He lived another 50 years after that. Do we really know that those wounds really killed him? In this age it would be normal for a healthy person to die of old age.

For me as a german, it's really interesting that Chamberlain asked King Wilhelm of Prussia in 1870 for permission to join the prussian army in the fight against Imperial France. (www.lurker00.com/joshua1/jlcgov2.htm) Can you confirm that and do you have further information? Best wishes from Pomerania.
