For twenty years I have asked my neighbor to trim the trees which overhang my backyard and pool dropping leaves, seeds and branches four months out of the year. I have my guys do what they can but I can’t lawfully cut over on his property. I’ve tried everything including offering to pay for the tree trimming. He just says that I should have my pool cleaned more than once a week. Last night, a monsoon took out the trees. I’ve waiting 20 years but my prayers have been answered.
I have a neighbor who has five or six enormous trees (30 foot plus) that are on his side of the poperty line but overhang my roof. I must constantly clean the debris and have paid thousands over the years to cut back what is on my side of the property line. He refuses to do anything. I had a lawyer write a letter saying he will be liable if there is any house damage or injury should one tree that is in very bad shape fall. A large limb snapped and was overhanging my roof right before an ice storm. Cost around $1000 to deal with. I showed my insurance company the letter, and they made his insurance company pay. Didn't cost me a penny.
I have the same problem but these are huge pine trees. All the grass is gone, it gets just muddy back of my house. I had to put up a fence to keep the dogs from going back there and tracking mud in the house. I call the neighbor grumpy. He also has huge dead trees in his yard that makes his property look so ugly but he mows all the time especially when we have company over and we are sitting outside trying to talk to each other. Yeah he's a grump.
@@trixiemartin6793 What? Lies? I wish I could post on RU-vid the pictures of the tree limb hanging above my roof literally hours before an ice storm, and the guy in the huge bucket truck that had to be driven on to my lawn when the ground was muddy from late winter snow. And the pictures of him sawing off what was still holding the limb on to the tree while preventing it from sliding down the side of my house. And then the insurance adjuster came and saw everything with his own eyes, including the boundary stakes that I had put in to mark the property line. And he saw the wretched condition of this guy's property. And he was shocked. I don't know what dog you have in this fight that you have to say something like that.
Now I know why my sister lives on 5 acres........no neighbors within sight !! I was accused by my neighbors of causing their propperty taxes to rise. Sorry, I'll try a little harder to make my house more slum-like.
You would think that the planning commission would make the prospective builder send something to the closest neighbors and they would have a certain amount of time to complain before the commission approved it. My question for this guy is if it was his neighbors hedge why were the stalks in the ground on his side. All you would have to do is cut the stalks off.
The neighbors put a garden shed near the back corner of my mother and s-f's yard and, boy, were the peonies paying the price of no sun. I dug them out and took them to my home before the place sold. Been in the family for generations.
If it was where I live they would have to go to the zoning board for approval and letters would be sent to all surrounding properties and if there was just one objection the project wouldn’t be approved ( 20 ft high garage) . If they built it anyway without approval they would be fined snd forced to tear agsin
@@cynroxann2411DUDE !!! it certainly is allowed!!! City code concerning home owners is they're expected to maintain the outside property. He was being a nice guy And doing his part!!!!
My neighbor used to complain about my trees cutting the sun. He called the city several times. Since my trees were on the other side of my property, there wasn't much the city could do. One day, when he was grumbling, I told to cut any trees he wanted. He came with his ladder and chainsaw and trimmed the tree closest to his yard. It didn't make any difference but he stopped bugging me after that.
You are only allowed to cut what is hanging over onto your property line, once you cut the top on their side you're opening yourself up to getting sued.
@@cynthiacarter514 Actually, there are many types of shrubs that cannot be trimmed like this with hedge trimmers and not be damaged, especially if it is wrong time of year and they are not dormant. Now he may have to look out on a large dead brown hedge 🤣
@@nonnieTerrinot necessarily. Forget the true terminology but if your neighbors foliage is on your property you can maintain it as long as you don’t cause damage. Pics before and after always help.
@@timmytrex3316 But only on your side, not on their side of property line, which is what @pollynicklas5220’s comment pointed out. Also, not every shrub can be hedge trimmed like this and especially if trimmed at the wrong time of year and survive. A large dead brown shrub hedge may not be an improvement in a lovely view 🤣
What light was it blocking? I expected the reveal of a lamp post or something. Sunlight is not “your” light. I believe you can trim what hangs over your property, but not go over the property line. You may have violated the law.
Exactly my thoughts… I love all that greenery… My hedge and trees between each side of my garden is beautiful, and I love sitting out there listening and watching all the birds… No wonder all our wildlife and bugs are dying…
Exactly!!!! Granted, it does look better, but that's not the point. Its not his. He should've only cut his side. The "height" is not his. There's a reason ppl like privacy shrubs/trees on their own property. It gives them privacy.. He prob knows once its done, they won't do anything, so he took upon himself to just cut whatever "he" felt like cutting. He knows exactly what he's doing, and if it comes down to him getting in trouble, he'll be playing the "dumb roll" like he didn't know..smh I think its wrong. I don't usually comment like this on these kind of videos of someone doing this to a neighbor, but I just feel its wrong the extent he cut off the height and the sides.. He's probably the nosey neighbor that these ppl that are taking up for him would be mad at if he lived beside them..lol 😆 Trim your own side, Not someone else's without their permission..
@@user-tm4ke6gb3q I agree with you. If his neighbor told him no, he needs to respect their rights. I found it a bit clickbaity. Blocking out the light? Really? I guess the sun just doesn’t shine for him. And if he’s not able to grow anything, get shade loving plants. 🤷🏻♀️ he needs to respect his neighbors boundaries.
He has the right to do that as long as he only cuts on his side and clean up. He can be glad its not a mulberry tree.thats what we had and it messed up our paving, cars and the wall between us.
Oh they grow in every nook and cranny beside walls, in corners, through chain-link fences they’re horrible! And the pits to try and extract out of the ground!
The person who owns the hedge owns ALL THE AIR ABOVE IT TOO…YOU WILL BE SUED! There is no way it was blocking any light..You just wanted to be a jack wagon..
Why can’t we just respect each other and help friends and neighbors out?? Could be this hedge owner is elderly or incapacitated and can’t cut their on hedges. Or disabled. Or any number of other things to include being an asshole. Either way, the man doing the cutting was well within his rights to cut what is on HIS property! And I don’t blame hm…. Good job man!
My mothers neighbour is a 90 yo woman who has TWO 7' hedges (abandoned one and built a fence in front of it) then planted a whole new hedge 7' again each hedge is about 3/4 ft deep. That woman is as fit as a fiddle at 90 gets up and cuts just what she can reach, which means all of the back of her original hedge overhangs by around 4' into my mothers garden and the top of it is only partially cut because she now can't reach it. This woman goes to church every Sunday - but she sure is not living a Christian life. I know my mother who is 84 can legally cut what's on her side of the borderline but the hedge is very mature and woody it would cost a great deal of money to get that work done so right now the neighbours property is actually on around 4 feet of my mothers garden.
As soon as the birds heard that trimmer noise I'm sure they flew off to find another nesting spot. It's called moving...everyone and everything on this planet does it. Thank goodness there are lots of hedges, trees and places to nest. And I'm sure they didn't stay homeless for long. It's man-made fires that worry/disgust me. Trimming not so much. Js. And Spring is definitely the time for trimming I thought. 🤔
@purplehorsechick9706 some animals have one chance to breed in a season, others nay gave 2-3 broods, however, there is a law against disturbing wildlife in this country. I have been a tree surgeon, gardener & wildlife habitat manager for over 20 years & have seen the devastation that we humans inflict on nature to the point that our endemic species are so badly in decline that some are on the verge of extinction. If we lose them altogether we are the lovers as they provide us with pollination, defence against pestilence & most of all the splendour of sharing our planet with them. Neighbouring feuds are pathetic, cause animosity & bad feeling because humans love conflict. Your understanding of the natural world is where I rest my case.
Great job! I did the same a few years back because they were so thick and a hiding spot for animals. I enjoyed the natural fence line but coyotes, snakes and everything were hiding underneath all the brush. Neighbor had issues but I assured him it was on my property line past the easement and he backed off. Now my grass is growing and is greener than ever😊. Your neighbor silently thanked you😂😂😂
I just had evergreen bushes 'trimmed' within an inch of their lives and the rabbits ran. Maybe my flowers will have a fighting chance now. There had been feral cats whose kittens I took to the shelter but they haven't been seen lately. Now if the neighbors would cut the hemlock limbs hanging across the fence and over their yard - they're blocking the sun to the garden.
I agree cutting it on just own side but I would be furious if somebody hacked something on my side and then left the “droppings”. Not his hedge. 🏴
Yes, There is a hieght limit too. Its not acceptable to block out the light, especially if the huge hedge nieghbour refused. I'd be furious ...if some one blocked out my light and didnt care.
@@deedee5562 Id be furious if my privacy was removed...but he was smart enough not to do that. Play with fire and someone going to get burnt... just saying
Several years ago, I had my tree trimmed in the backyard. The guy that did the work said you're really generous. What's over her fence is her responsibility. I said well it is my tree." I was told prior to this, what happens if a storm comes up and it falls on my fence? She said, "Well, I guess that's what insurance is for. I turned and walked away. To trim both of my trees, one in front, too, cost $3000, she's still rude. Great job!
@@trixiemartin6793 Not if it's a dying tree and the property owner has been warned. I don't know what state you live in, but the laws are different in every state.
I live in Iowa, the tree is massive, alive and well my house 121 years old. I found a picture around 1920s in front of the garage that still stands. The tree was huge then. We believe the tree to be as old as the house. The guy that trimmed the tree does it for a living. He said I was generous, again, no clue why she doesn't speak to me. I guess she just doesn't like me that's fine. I'm a quiet neighbor who minds my own business.
I can't tell you how satisfying that was to watch! Having fought over neighbors trees for 6 years. SO frustrating! She was finally evicted for not honoring the bi-laws. Buh-bye.
Really sad that it has to take that long to get rid of someone like that, those that don't care and are beyond inconsiderate. I had drug dealers living next to me once, all hours of the day and night cars coming and going. Took a year to get them out, they were renting. Thank goodness I have neighbors that weren't going to put up with that crap, cops being called constantly for fights etc. So much better now, decent neighbors who just want a good life. The bad ones just gotta ruin it for others, don't they, with their craziness.
All of this is why I want to live on several acres where I can’t see any neighbors and they can’t see me. Too much of everyone being in everyone else’s business. Personally I would be pissed to come home and find my privacy hedge cut down.
You're correct. So, this video isn't strictly about "getting more light" onto his property but reducing the hedge to the size he likes. I suspect his next door neighbors prefer not to see him. If they made the mistake of letting the hedge grow onto his property, they should make sure that none grows or impacts his property in the future and grow the hedge as tall as they like.
I would be so angry at this man for cutting my hedge on my property. That hedge has obviously been there a long time to have grown that tall. I’d plant new mature hedges that did not share a property line boundary so this maniac next door would have no excuse to mess with my shrubbery.
In some states in the US you can be criminally charged for cutting a tree or bush that you don't own whether it is hanging in your yard or not. You can cut it if you have written permission from the owner of the tree or bush. The UK's laws must be different.
Here in the UK, you can cut over hanging branches, etc, but no trimming of bushes or trees in nesting season, he could get in serious trouble for this.
True story here! My neighbour had a 7 foot hedge between us and him, when it became to much for him I was left to cut it and had to use ladders to. My wife asked him if we could take it out and we would pay for a new 6 foot high fence, he told my wife that neither her or anyone else would remove that hedge. My wife told him that the minute he was in his box (coffin) he wouldn’t even be cold and she would cut it down😂😂😂
@@kategoley9601 I don't know…. maybe a brief explanation, who’s side of the mess is he on, how long he's been waiting, what kind of clippers he used….. I don't know….. something. He liked my comment so he had no problem with my comment. 😂
@@lorithrower2467 I think he likes all the comments 😂 good or bad. Some people do recipe videos with no talking, just music. Personal choices on personal channels I guess 🤔☺👍💃
I personally think it's relaxing watching someone else build stuff, remodel, clean, etc with no talking. I can "waste" an hour watching a man or woman building a cabin on land and love it. Once watched 3 hours (while I was cleaning lol) of a video where a man was building his beautiful cabin in the snowy mountains of Alaska. It was beautiful. Sometimes it's good for the soul to "waste time" and just chill. I've worked 2 jobs at times and also volunteered nights while working other jobs. Time is a trick 😉 ❤
@@princehorselover9706 😄Hi, yes, I have also and often quite like them. I truly didn't mean to offend so many people with an offhand remark. 😉 I just wanted to know about the neighbor. 😁
We live in a small, older community with lots of neighbors that homestead and raise animals. Hedges make great, free fences. The wildlife can pass through while still providing division and maintaining boundaries.
Years ago my neighbour asked if he could cut down my very large tree because the leaves would fall into his jacuzzi and yard. Told him he could. Wasn't sure if when it fell if it would miss the house. Just missed the house. Mission accomplished. I lost my shade but not the friendship of a neighbour.
I just don't understand people being so "it's all mine, don't touch" when THEIR trees, bushes, hedges, whatever, are hanging over onto YOUR property. What has happened to people?! I know, make it make sense. Great trim job, looks so much better and that was relaxing to watch. You should start a trimming business I'm sure LOTS of people would appreciate having THEIR sides done! 😊❤
I would like to have seen a distant shot before he started to get the full effect of before and after. Way to go buddy. Glad your cameraman is your spotter.
Evidently it bothered you, but I thought it was a nice natural privacy fence. Especially if you don’t get along with your neighbors, or if their property is not well maintained.☺️
Nice work guy, that hedge and the neighbours reluctance to keep it tidy would have given me the right hump, to the extent it would have at least another 2ft off the top. 🤣👍🏻
@@donaldhall1872knowing how big a tree or bush grows prior to planting and determining its placement is key to growing your landscape to your preference. I like the natural look, so I would’ve placed it further onto my own property line and buzz could’ve cried all day about his light being blocked by my tree or hedge, because that’s what trees and hedges do. I’m sure he appreciated the fact they prevented the neighbors from seeing he and the Mrs while in the hot tub 🫥
It would appear to me with all the round about wording his property is on the other side of the fence and he carried his tools and ladder to the neighbors back yard and trimmed the hedge on their property. Trespassing would be an appropriate term here, so my assumption (again) is he had some sort of permission or agreement to enter their property. If mine….he would have been escorted off my property by the police.
Im not sure this was right to do... They are on their property & looks like their house is there so your light is already blocked. Plus it took a time for them to grow... You moved there knowing there were those trees it seems.. Not sure who eas there first but still. They weren't a hazzard so I don't feel you had the right.
If somebody's going to plant bushes to get that width and height they should have started back 40 ft from the property line. You can't plant things right on the line people. Good job cutting them down neighbor❣️
@@JanicePeterson-hv4us yes indeed. They originally years back, never used common sense on the size width /height their little bushes at that time, would mature in size to. Honestly, when people don't plan, it serves them right for the trouble they'll catch from their neighbors. 👍
He was ok and in the right up to when he started cutting over the neighbors yard. He can go straight up but not over. What ever falls/grows/leans on your side of the property line is open game.
It’s legal to cut anything overhanging your boundaries but you have to give it back to your neighbour to not pick apples or fruit or flowers that overhang your boundary to give them it back in some areas of the United Kingdom 🇬🇧. So it’s okay to deposit your cuttings back over the boundary
What light ? Was it really necessary to cut your neighbour"s trees tops ??? It seems rather like an act of revenge and meaness more than anything else Nothing to brag about.
I just did this 2 days ago, to my recurve privet hedge along the road. It's about 12 feet high. My trimmer is electric, not as heavy, but I still have bumps and bruises, and sore muscles. Not an easy job. Depending on the neighbor's age and physical abilities, maybe they couldn't? I am 63, female, and can still do heavy yardwork, but many people my age and older, can't physically do it. So he is probably doing them a favor.
I'm just grateful you didn't get hurt, that's a lot of hard work time and trouble..sad people can be so selfish and cruel..God bless you for fine job!! ❤❤they should pay you YOU!@ LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER
Right about the legal aspect...only can trim what's on your "side." But I get the frustration! I bet your arms were sore after that. Nice job anyway! 🌞
