Wow! Your veggie garden is looking so good. I can only imagine the homestead being like demanding twins or triplets. Honestly, you guys make my heart sing. I am so glad I discovered your channel.
Greetings guys, homesteading is not for the faint-hearted indeed. It requires some decent commitment and buy in from both parties in a relationship. I know many homesteads that failed to progress or develop because of an imbalanced appreciation from the parties involved. Putting things on the table has always been ideal especially before making the move towards homesteading…thanks for sharing your story
Always love your content - we are continually inspired by you "Young Ones". Myself and Elsa always laugh (and take notes) from your videos. You continually inspire us to keep on going!
Omg! Jonathan and Elsa🙂 I've been watching various SA homesteaders since December trying to pick up tips before I start, so it's exciting to find you here. Thank God for RU-vid 😂
This is such high praise. We are super inspired by you and your journey and how honest you are with your journey. It’s definitely given us so much perspective and made us persevere this whole time. Sending loads of love to you ❤️.
Where are you going to homestead if i may ask? I'm looking high and low in the WC but its very tough... looking at other provinces there are much better deals, but just unsure of such a huge move.
I disagree with your feeling that you need to entertain us. There are plenty of RU-vidrs that show us what may be considered the mundane aspects of life, but oddly enough some of us actually enjoy seeing those things as well. There are things to be learned from those activities too, ie "Oh, that's an easier way to clean the house, or take care of the yard, etc." Or, "Maybe the next time I want to eat potatoes I'll fix them like that." In fact, I prefer a truer, more real RU-vid, and I don't mean personal things that are meant to stay personal, but just other parts of your day to day that don't require secrecy. Thanks for sharing your lives with us! [P.S. And I agree wholeheartedly with your statement on being free, self-sufficient, sustainable, and getting away from (dependency on) the government.]
Thanks so much for this comment. We took time to discuss it and we will be sharing more of these. If we can show more about the daily struggles of a homestead and how we navigate it and it can help others we would love to do so. We are very open and honest about the journey so will do so.
You guys balance each other though. I love it. You need both sides - the breaks and the accelerator both helps when it comes to making that progress is I am making sense lol.
That’s exactly it. There are many times where I was frustrated because the progress was slow and I wanted more done but Audry would put the brakes on. It prevented me from burning out. This is a journey and journeys need acceleration and deceleration. It’s necessary to have people around who balance us out.
WOW! Great video! And the greenhouse is😍😍😍 Out of all the homesteading channels I watch, I think its only you guys that have touched on this uncomfortable subject. Thank you for being selfless and opening up about a personal topic just to help us. I recently read a relationship horror story 😱😱😱 on reddit that involved homesteading. So this video came at the right time.
We really want to share all the experiences of being on the homestead. The misconception is that it’s the weather, the crops or livestock or work that get you. But it’s different for us all. The interpersonal is actually more at risk. We want people to think it through, we unfortunately didn’t and have had to trudge along 😂.
Thank you. We would like to believe that we are warm 😊. We want to share our honest experiences without sugar coating anything but also without painting a gloom and doom view. We get so much support, advice and love from people all over and we really want to share that with others who are interested in being more self sufficient.
Absolutely. The homestead changes you. We found that there were things we thought we may have liked or wanted for the homestead together but over time those opinions diverge. It’s important to make sure that we aligned but also acknowledge those changes and check in.
@@millennialhomesteader as you were talking about the conflicts you’ve experienced overcome it was as if you were in our shoes. I’ve learnt a lot from your conversation and picked up some great tips. Thank you for being so open.
You are so right, these topics are not often discussed on homesteading channels. So thanks for bringing them up. BTW, what pumpkin variety was that at the start of the video? Can't make out the name.
Thanks 😊. It’s called Red Kuri pumpkin/ squash. We were gifted a few and used those seeds to grow them. Woolies occasionally has them when they are in season.
I have my first watermelon fruit growing this year (first time I am growing them) and I hope it makes it. I heard gore they aren't as easy to grow but. I am determined to get it right because I love Watermelom so much. Your garden looks so good. That Cucumber is sooo huge😍what's your secret?(also growing this for the first time)
Funny thing is that watermelon is something our grandparents just grew without much effort. They would grow effortlessly amongst the corn and were watered by The Lord. It’s so weird to see them struggling in a location where we give attention and compost 😂. Regarding the cucumber. We actually don’t know, we planted Ashley cucumbers first thing when we moved here, they were watered by the rainfall and we had them outside and inside the green shed. They were so massive. Cucumber really loves it at our place, could be the sun, the horse compost, soil, us or a combo.
@@LearningLife77 I totally understand the feeling. Tomatoes requires some special attention especially at the beginning - if the plant is healthy then the fruits will most likely be. I have been failing to be consistent at taking care of them so they do give lots of fruit - however they always seem to want to crack (that ass last year) or develop some desease (this year) before ripening so I always remove them when they are still green. I am so determined to solve this problem next year lol. We can do it. It's all about learning from our previous mistakes
