Ive owned two 600s and a 650. I rode a 600 round England and Turkey in the late 80s. I rode a 600 cc model with 80000km on the odo around Australia. The jouros that describe them as dull or boring dont have a clue. They are reliable, robust, comfortable and will happily do70mph all day long without stressing out. Its just a shame theyve been discontinued. If you can pick one up with less than 25000miles on it you cant go to far wrong. Ive taken both my 600's up to 145000km with no major repairs work needed. Theyre awsome!!

New one is just out, 750cc parallel twin 91hp, great to see the transalp back.
@kenmclennan341

Kinda missed the really big point about the Transalp's off-roading ability, and that is it has a 21 inch front wheel. This is what sets it apart (and head and shoulders above) its competition like the Suzuki DL650 and the Kawasaki Versys 650 which have 18 inch front wheels. Both are road bikes with dual-sport styling. The Transalp, on the other hand, actually delivers the goods off road.
@carlosandleon
@carlosandleon 5 лет назад
no it doesn't it's just as heavy as an elephant.
@kenmclennan341
@kenmclennan341 5 лет назад
@@carlosandleon Heavy is a relative term. The Transalp is heavier than a pure off road bike, but it is lighter than most of its dual-sport competitors. Its essentially a road bike which can handle off road work very well, and the 21 inch front helps it do that. Dual sport / adventure bikes are a compromise of various abilities; I think the Transalp does a great job at what it was designed to do.
@carlosandleon
@carlosandleon 3 года назад
@@kenmclennan341 it really can't. Anything a transalp can do, a versys can too. The transalps belly pan is too low for any significant advantage to be had. It's perhaps just more plush doing so
@kenmclennan341
@kenmclennan341 3 года назад
@@carlosandleon the Transalp also has a 25kilogram weight advantage over both the V Strom and the Versys. All fine bikes in their own right, but the XLV gets my 'most favoured' vote. 😎

I had an XL650V Transalp. It was a reliable bike, but for people like me, with long legs the driving position is very bad, cramped. By dimensions it is a big bike, but I looked silly on this big bike with sharp knee angle. I've seen other taller riders who doesn't seem to fit on this bike. I changed it for a little g310gs, so now I don't have to lift my right foot from the foot peg to brake. My right foot is now where it should be, Over, not under the braking lever. Off course one could make adjustments, but I thought also it was too heavy. Engine was super. A nice bike otherwise.

after sv 650's, harley 883, i'v got high student loans and no money, i will maybe go there, the last pleasure of the twin without kill your bank account... and as my only vehicule, will take something more simple and smooth as my previous sv 650s. i'm just fear to not have abs, i rode a long time with it and it serves me few times.

Funny you say that, but coming down from a GS to the Transalp, (due to theft) show's you how BMW are SO advanced. ABS and Adaptive Riding Modes does make a lot of sense, and costs!....... Never forget that a Transalp is more than half the price of a similar aged BMW GS. Do you really need all that stuff?, yes and no!.............. the final answer comes down to you!. ABS is great, but in reality, a good biker won't be needing it!

So it cost £5000 new. That sounds about right, and I have just bought one for €3000, with just 17,0000 kms, 20 years old!. It temporarily replaces my recently stolen R1200GS, 2017.5 model. Those who know read no further!. Of course I am in crisis, agony, raped and my love has been taken from me, despite the most modern of chastity!. You can't beat a Transalp for being simply good, and that's it. Good it is. I suppose in distress, I've given the Transalp a good thrashing, (f...k the hell out of it), not because she' bad, actually she's not bad at all, but given that my chosen was the GS, this is a move to keep me sain but flat out on power, is 1/3rd the way a GS delivers. You have to try it to know it! Covid, Bike Thieves, Brexit, Trump, Putin, Oh, Lord give us all a break please. The Transalp is great, enough power (just), but you must be prepared to rev it to at least 7000+. That's a lot of revs!...... a BM, you wouldn't dare to go about 6, the further 3 are to kill yourself. The Transalp, she just says "go for it, I won't punish you". In this I feel a bit guilty, the Honda is doing fine. I am 2 weeks on, still messed up big time. My Lover (I'm 63), got stolen, even though it was equipped with every gizmo you could imagine. One will will touch the Tansalp, not because it' not great, because it's a Transalp!.............. Bikers!............. we are nuts sometimes, myself included.

@@jerkersundstrom1492 You are right, Hondas have excellent quality, but the ones that are built in Japan. The Transalp is built in Italy, and the quality is not as good as other Hondas that are made in Japan. The KLE500 was Made in Japan. I just prefer my bikes to be made in Japan.

@@mr2bmw KLE has a big problem in his electric generator, which is prone to detachment of the magnets inside. If a magnet breaks loose, it will be crushed to pieces and you will have to clean the inside of the motor from magnetic debris & dust. It's a critical failure and can destroy the engine. Btw, it's a problem that can appear from >40k Km.
