Vasco Sustelo well I should say in my opinion, but still I feel it’s a pretentious, idiotic statement, for a few reasons. One, “real” and “wack,” are objective terms in this context, but what he means, is that artists with dumbed down music are successful, and people mindlessly follow them, while artists with more dense and thoughtful music aren’t. For one, he acts like he has some profound understanding of popular music, when he doesn’t. His music itself is by no means dense, insightful, or interesting, but there are tons of artists that are successful, and whose music possess those traits. Plus he makes it seem like everyone who listens to music that doesn’t try to be profound, is stupid, and mindless, when in reality people listen to it, because it’s so ridiculous, entertaining, catchy, or just enjoyable. So yeah I feel it’s just a false narrative and a dumb statement.
