I thought this same thing. Once, years ago, I faintly, very faintly, heard someone yelling help me. I immediately called 911. The police never did find out what it was but I didn't hesitate.
Can we all just make a pact with each other than if we ever hear someone being beaten and screaming for help that we will call the freakin' police? Or go and try to help them? Bloody hell, humans.
Ever since I learned about the bystander effect I've made a conscious effort to try and identify it in myself if I'm ever not taking action. Its helped me be a better person for sure.
She actually thought she could tell the cops "they let me go to move her car, then I came back" and they would believe her? Wow, episode of 'dumbest criminals'
I wonder why she felt the car needed to be moved? She cld explain away why the car was there since she had talked her coworker into going back to the store.
They don’t even have the security tag sensor alarms in all of their stores. I bought a pair of leggings in a Colorado store and they didn’t take the tag off. No alarm went off and no alarm in a different store where I got the tag removed. For this reason the lack of cameras honestly doesn’t surprise me as much as it otherwise would Also, I worked in a few locations of a very well known “designer shoe warehouse” chain in high school (2009-2011). Only cameras in the stores were pointed at the cash registers
I know. You'd be surprised. Maybe in low crime areas. I worked at a very large, very swanky senior center for years being by myself all night and there wasn't one camera. Not even on the front door. I don't know how that's legal.
Few years back, I was hearing something banging on the wall between my neighbour and my apartment and I tought having heard a woman crying but I was not sure. I hurried up and went knocking at their door. The guy answers the door, and I ask him what is going on there. He look nervous and tell me his girlfriend is having an asthma attack. I tell him I'm calling the ambulance and police, and the guy ask me if I would only call the ambulance. Duh, of course...🙄 When I called, they ask me if I wanted to get both Ambulance and cops, and I said Oh yes, this guy story doesn't make sense at all. Finally, this bastard was arrested and sent to jail because he was bashing her into the wall and choking her. I've never regretted knocking at their door, even after, when I heard that she took him back when he got out.
Good for you, but not smart. He could've hurt you too. Always leave this stuff to the police. They are trained and protected to handle almost every situation.
What if I told you that thieves such as the killer in this , are usually doing more crime than just theft ... consider theft a gateway crime to the harder shit like murder
I don't know which one is more disturbing: the fact that one chick killed another chick over a pair of yoga pants, or that Apple store employees heard the scuffle and did absolutely NOTHING! Appalling.

I never thought of it like that. You’re right - that’s almost as crazy and committing the murder. Just lying there like “I’m totally going to fool them” is insane. “Can’t wait for my manager to come upon this horrific scene and images she will likely have stained on her brain for the rest of her like. Such a smart idea!” Shes a monster.
I know sometimes ppl are unsure as to what's happening so don't call police but if you hear screaming hysterically and then "God help me ! Please help me?". I can't believe that anyone wouldn't call police
Yes , if it was at a home that usually has fighting going on. But no screaming she be coming from a store. And they heard actually voices not just thuds and it's a Yoga store that was supposed to be closed should not be any noise at all
I've heard you're supposed to scream "fire" instead of "help" to actually get people to call the cops if something is wrong. Crazy how people will ignore someone screaming for help. Terrible.

Carl Cushman Hybels Bingo. You understand. So many people obsess over the “why” and “how” of the motive, but they can’t understand that these people don’t feel guilt. Simple as that.
One night I was working late in a deserted high-rise and heard "help! Help!" through the wall next to my office. I called security and ran out of my suite to the suite where the scream came from and pounded on the door, yelling, "the cops are on the way!" Turns out the woman was trying to get the attention of her coworker over some music they were playing... She was yelling HOPE (the co-worker's name). The next day, they brought me cookies.
When I worked at a cell phone store in a mall, the neighboring store employees helped me in a situation that could have escalated quickly. I am grateful they cared enough when they heard some man screaming threats of violence. It isn't hard to call for help.
In Germany the lack of assistence to somebody in danger can result in a hefty criminal sentence. Those two Apple employees would have had the book thrown at them.
Apple emploees didn't want police attention for some reason. Sounds like those employees were dodgy as hell when it came to summoning police anywhere near their place.
It’s crazy when shit goes down that no one does anything. You learn if you’re a “fight or flight” kind of person but a “not do a damn thing” kind of person is worse.
I used to work at Lululemon! This story is strictly forbidden! We were not allowed to talk about this murder, ever! The entire company strives to pretend this never happened. All "happiness" and $130 Yoga pants. 😒🤐
I’m sorry but that infuriates me that the apple employees listened to all that but didn’t even call the cops. I’ve always worked in retail in indoor and outdoor malls. It’s an unwritten code that all the different stores employees always look out and keep an eye on each other especially around opening and closing times. Even small things we call security or the cops. To not call after hearing screaming lady and loud noises is mind boggling to me.
Vance Smith I’m surprised the shopping center didn’t have security that patrolled around closing time and the Lululemon store had no cameras. Especially being they sold “higher” end products.Goes to show you how companies don’t care about their employees as much as they do their money.
I mean, nobody believes that someone is being murdered right next door. They could've been confused, in shock, in disbelief, and many other things. Humans react in different ways
It’s known as the bystander effect in psychology (Mike mentions that). Unfortunately often witnesses of crimes or incidents don’t react or report things because a.) they are scared for themselves b.) they fear that it is less serious than they think and they will be mocked/not believed or chastised if they report it and c.) someone else will report it. Diffusion of responsibility, it’s known as. If this upset you then don’t look up the case of Kitty Genovese.....
@@anar6475 I worked in a major mall, downtown, in a large American city and there were approximately ZERO cameras in our stores. @@srk54989a month or so back, a woman watched her granddaughter drown at the river. People took out their phones and recorded the young girl drowning ( not even in her teens) not one person went to rescue to little girl.
I think she is not. I've seen many people go a slippery slope of a murder and similar scenes like this. I believe this whole thing wasn't planned, because obviously, putting herself on a crime scene is pretty stupid. And there is no preparation. So let's take a look what snap means in a case of murder: 1. You snap, attack a person for a minor issue 2. This person starts escalating the situation "Oh you are so done! I am going to call the police! You are so fckn done" 3. A person who snapped and can't think straight intensifies the attack, especially if its a mutual fight now 4. There is a point when they realize there is no way in coming back. The situation feels absolutely desperate for them, they can't think straight and the only problem they see is the one who wants to make them the problem. But this is not thinking as "going through your thoughts", this is impulsive behavior, where you have an obstacle between you and open door and you have to get through it. And you can run only forward. 5. Unfortunately forward in this case means silencing the issue, removing the obstacle. Unfortunately, this also means in many cases killing the "subject". Now imagine you have already beaten shit out of your boss and he still doesn't want to shut up. You take a knife and stab. Out of pure panic, totally out of mind. You just close your eyes, boom. 6. Oh shit baby, we are far from done here. Cause till now, it was all just a regular fun. Now you moved yourself into a completely different reality where you are killing someone which is a thousand light-years far from where you been a second before. In your mind, you already crossed the line where you killed - but contrary to the movies, the person is not dead. 7. So you stab again - not dead... You can do around 30-50 stab wounds and unless you stab them to the head, you are in the horror of seeing a person spitting blood, gasping for air through a terrible sound of their own blood in their throat, trying to say something but not being able too, it's a mess. Completely horror and this is all done by your hand. At this point, you are just trying to finish it. In this case, she didn't use the knife. She used all other (pretty shitty) weapons to finish the job. The scene was absolute madness. There is no break out of this, cause your brain is locked within this situation until it's done. It's not something you can really control. At the end, when the subject is finally dead, you can finally think straight. Little too late buddy. So what you gonna do now? Call the cops or stage it like it was someone else? You didn't want to do this in the first place, it's not you, you don't even know how you got into this mess. You have usually a few minutes to work this out, good luck, 3 2 1 go!
@Ruth Simpson What is interesting is that psychopath is a clinical term, sociopath is not. When either of them are diagnosed, they are now given the blanket diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD) first. THEN, it might be further sub-categorized in any given case that a person may exhibit certain signs of either psychopathy or even being what's commonly understood to be a "sociopath". But in either case again it is all APD, nowadays, in a clinical sense but they also use a scale because some forms are obviously worse than others. We're talking like maybe petty crime at the bottom without remorse all the way on up to Ted Bundy levels where they actively enjoy hurting people, but yes, psychopath is considered the very highest on that spectrum. The fact she didn't do it herself to me actually would put her more in sociopath territory, but honestly the point I am trying to make is not even professionals fully agree anymore on what constitutes a psychopath vs a sociopath.
@@voteZDLR Primary Psychopathy vs Secondary Psychopathy. She's clearly not the former as she made a complete bollix of planning this and I reckon a Psychopath would have framed the other person for the theft, or at least had the foresight to realise the stupidity of her plan. A Secondary on the other hand is much more likely to end up in this type of situation as they're not able to keep calm under pressure, are much more impulsive and are easily provoked to rage and violence. Primary Psychopathy is believed to be present from birth, as a result of structural differences in certain areas of the brain, and they are not usually emotionally driven simply because they lack the neural network necessary to experience emotions to begin with. Secondary Psychopathy, or Sociopathy, is not present from birth and is thought to be as a result of trama in early childhood. Of the two the Secondary is much more likely to react impulsively and violently to any confrontation, the Primary would plot a revenge that could take months of planning and avoid any implication in this. I don't think she's either of these things though. People forget that neurotypicals are every bit as capable of committing murder, rape, robbery, assault as easily as someone with ASPD. I know one Secondary very well and he has never been arrested, never used violence or considered it as a solution to a problem, but he knows what he is and he knows to keep that side of him under strict control in order to coexist in society. I believe the term is high functioning. Unfortunately ordinary, regular people are just as likely to be pieces of shit and that often goes unsaid. I don't think she's ASPD, but I do think she's a vile, stupid, pos who deserves to spend the rest of her life in prison.
It was obvious that Brittany did it. To think that if the Apple Store employees responded immediately, they would have saved Jana's life. This is just sick.

Interesting what happened that she could get that many injuries and the other girl had light scratches that were probably self inflicted. I bet it was premeditated murder. She felt her life was over when she realized she was being reported and took revenge. If only help was taken to prevent this.
People have said it before, but I’ll say it again: it is so awesome that you find and use actual photos, news clips, paperwork like autopsy reports explicitly about the case at hand. So many true crime channels talk about crimes with stock footage in the background (talking about a court case with a gavel as the image, etc). It makes the stories much more interesting as well as tells the complete story. It is very much appreciated!
Pretty telling that her brother clearly thinks she was capable of the crime. Also, if I'm being savagely attacked next to an Apple store I hope I remember to tell Siri to call 911.
I agree. The way that her brother asked her if she had done it was quite telling in my opinion. It was almost as if he already knew the answer to his question. Poor guy, she put him and her entire family in an awful situation. And, that's nothing compared to what she put her victim and her family through. 😪
Theres scientific studies showing it sadly a normal reaction to do nothing. The brain doesn't filter the information as quickly as you think. It assumes someone or anyone is going to help and to not clog the 911 line

I don't think "she snapped". She inflicted over 300 wounds.. that's a crime of passion, driven by pure hatred. And then have the calm head afterwards to meticulously stage the crime scene and lay down waiting till the next morning for the store manager to arrive. In my book this was premeditated. She probably even stole the metro card to have her go back to the store, so it looks like they disturbed some burglars.
_S _ I had watched on another channel regarding this case. Mike did a great job. But some things were left out. The killer, had a rap sheet to begin with. There's some stuff you're leaving out about Brittany. Brittany had already kinda stolen from the company through some employee discount (something like they could get 75% off but there was a cap on how much could be spent and she went way over that cap) so because of that she was transferred to that Bethesda store. Also, Brittany was great at sports & went to college playing sports. She ended up being an outcast because she kept stealing from her teammates & I think eventually left school. She also claimed she wanted to be a personal trainer but flaked out on her big chance of meeting someone who could get her clients. Brittany had some severe emotional problems. Saddest of all is that the young woman she killed, Jayna, wasn't even scheduled to work that night. She was covering for someone else.

I agree. They’re just trying to make the story more interesting . VERY ridiculous. This girl was not a good person. Especially if her brother immediately said “just tell me if you did this.” If she were good he wouldn’t question it
She didn’t “snap”. Snapping involves doing something in the heat of the moment or during a crime of passion. Brittany purposely lured that poor girl back into the store _after_ they’d already left. She could’ve stopped the attack at any time. It went on for over 15 minutes. She then spent time tying herself up and self inflicting _wounds_ on her body, before laying down on the floor the entire night waiting to be “saved” after hearing hearing her victims last breath smh.

Story may not actually be so far-fetched. There was a man who walked into an auto parts store at about 9 a.m. to rob the place. One of the employees told him that they didn't have any money and would not have any until the boss came in at about 11 a.m. bringing the money with him. The employee suggested that if bad guy would leave them his telephone number they would call him when the boss got there with the money. Bad guy (a/k/a stupid guy) thought that was a marvelous idea and he gave them his phone number and left to await their call so he could go back and rob them. Around 11 they called him and he came bouncing back in to rob the place and was ASTOUNDED to walk right into the arms of the police who were there waiting for him. So yes, she actually could have been stupid enough to move the car and then go back so she could be assaulted by the guys. The fact that she was lying does not mean that she isn't dumb enough that she could have done something that stupid if it had really been true.
She could have at least said that her attacker (i.e. the one not covered in the “other” victim’s blood) went with her to make sure he didn’t run or call for help. I mean, they would have seen through that too but at least she could have put some thought behind the lie.
She’s a pathological liar. I’ve known two people like her where they make up the most absurd stories and if they get called out they will double down because they think they are better and smarter than everyone else.
Lots of times there are just the black bubbles that cameras are normally in put up throughout the store to give the appearance of cameras. I say this from experience, of having to install those black camera bubbles (without any cameras in them), in multiple new Lululemon stores that went up.
@Jada Nichole they said it took 20 minutes. They definitely could’ve gotten there, and at least maybe could’ve revived her. I went into cardiac arrest and was declared dead for 20 minutes and still came back I’m fine.

knew it was an inside job the minute they said that girl forgot her purse, and suddenly the thugs arrive...people are so wickedly dumb... she has no remorse
It would have been more believable if she said they broke in while they were closing and didn’t say they were raped. The story still has multiple other holes but I mean 💀 those were the biggest
