I personally still say it was the rex. The lack of damage was a continuity error. But I WISH they would hire you as screenwriter. At least then maybe we'd get a good jurassic film

Alternate title: A hand in an old movie gives us lore-induced headaches.

Even though I agree with the Velociraptor theory, just randomly I had the thought that "what if a BioSyn Employee killed the crew to sabotage InGen again and make it look like a predatory attack?"

I believe this is the same as the boat in the beginning of Jp3 the crew was killed by bad writing

in my opinion it was raptors. picture this, the Venture is docked at an island facility used to load dinos for transport to isla nublar, the crew is working to get the T-rex stowed while the remaining ingen hired guns are evacuating/waiting to be evacuated when raptors attack and catch everyone off guard. The crew of the venture can only watch as the raptors take out the ingen guard while the captain raises anchor and sets the ship's autopilot for san diego when from the cabin he sees at raptors leap onto the deck from an on shore cargo loading crane and just start massacring what few crew members there are ending while the ship starts departing ending with the captain getting got in the cabin, and the raptors hiding on the ship until it plows into the san diego dock where they jump overboard and escape in the ensuing chaos. A quick, easy explanation that i feel pretty much covers all the bases.

The t-rex was still in the lower deck I believe, so it had to be velociraptors that got on the boat. It wouldn't be the first time an event from the first book got adapted into the second movie (the little girl attacked by compies and the names of her parents were both lifted from the first novel), this time in case the velociraptors on the boat (as mentioned in this video).

I too subscribe to the notion that it was something other than the Rex that killed the crew of the Venture. Sure the Rex could have woken up and eaten some of the crewmen, but the fact that the Rex was still asleep in the cargo hold is evidence that the crew was able to sedate the rex and place it back into the cargo hold, pretty hard to do that if being killed and I don't think the Rex would just politely go back inside to sleep while the dying crewmen closed the cargo hold. It was clearly something else that killed off the crewmen, raptors being the most likely culprits given how the movies often show references to the novels in some ways, but there were plenty of creatures other than raptors cloned by InGen that were large enough to easily maim or kill a person but also be small and nimble enough to chase that person anywhere and hide easily (dilophosaurus comes to mind)...

Whatever killed them also had to do it close to the harbor. If they were killed out at sea, it is almost impossible for the ship to have made it into the harbor, let alone drive straight into the dock it was supposed to come to. Currents and wind would have pushed it somewhere else without human guidance. So I agree, twas plotholes that killed the crew, because nothing else makes sense.

Steven Spielberg talked about this! ITS WAS PTERODACTYLS! The whole scene was story boarded out but it got cut.

We always blame the wrong monsters. An ocean voyage from Costa Rica to San Diego would have probably taken days. The ship didn't wash up somewhere randomly along the California Coast, it rammed full speed into the very pier that it was supposed to dock. That means that whatever happened, happened VERY shortly before the boat's arrival. That's an extremely narrow window for all of this to have been done by 1 or more theropods who probably didn't have access to the ship's itinerary. You'd think that the crew would have called for help if they had a loose T.rex or a pack of raptors on the ship. But there was no indication that anything was wrong until the ship wouldn't slow down, especially during the approach into the harbor, a point at which you'd expect there to be lots of communication with the mainland. What if the carnage wasn't caused by the dinosaurs, but by a team of mercenaries who killed the crew and deliberately made sure that the ship would crash and release the T.rex right in front of the media that Ludlow had assembled. Hammond had already employed one team to try to undermine the InGen expedition peacefully, which failed. What if he had a backup plan ready to halt his Nephew's plan to take over the company he created, by causing an embarrassing PR disaster? That would be much more in line with his character from the original book.

Never did think the Rex killed the whole crew, but... IDK, how do you explain where the raptors would have gone? Theory Time: The ship was heading to San Diego, the hold is closed to store smaller items as the Rex might have been seen as too big to fit. During the loading process some raptors sneak aboard cause some of Ingen's hired guns drastically under estimate the lethal cunning of the raptors so raptors or compys sneak aboard while the ship crew is mainly focused on loading the Rex which is still asleep in it's cradle. Smart predators they see the open cargo hatch and head inside to ambush prey. The ship is buttoned up, sealed, and departs the port. The mercs who "disappeared" while guarding the gangways? Left early to take the first helicopters heading back to the mainland, and they'd handle their dereliction of duty later back on the mainland. While the ship sails to San Diego, possibly on auto pilot mostly, the ship board medical team monitors the Rex's breathing and when it looks like it's going to die, they drug it up to counteract the drugs. But while they are doing so, a storm begins to brew. They pack another sedative that should keep the rex sedated before preparing to stow it in the hold. Might be a tight fit, but if this animal gets washed overboard then that means a lot of people are gonna be fired. During this, the bridge crew keep in touch with the men in the engine rooms, but soon no one is answering their radios. Deck hands get sent down and don't come back. On the deck the rex is hoisted up on the ships' cranes to be moved into the hold. All is going well, the rex is secured below when a a hatch opens, and a crew member stumbles out.... with four raptors behind him. The man opening and closing the doors has enough time to hit "close" on the deck controls before he is killed. The deck crew is picked off by raptors, who make their way to the bridge by leaping over the bannisters. Men who aren't killed right off, jump/fall into the sea. The ship plows into a couple waves which make the deck sway terribly, sending the raptors off balance, over the side and into the ocean. The ship sails on, crewless, and on auto pilot which I guess only controls steering and not propulsion since the ship just crashes dead on to the pier.

I think some crew survived. After the Rex broke out an ingen guy said the Rex stopped breathing so they gave it meds and gave too much. To me that means some crew survived and hid below deck (Rex followed). Because if the people on the mainland knew the Rex broke lose they could have found a different plan and how would the mainland know the Rex stopped breathing

One idea I had was that some of the crew did survive, but abandoned ship. As the chaos unfolded and as the rex made quick work of their shipmates, some crew got on a raft and abandoned ship. It was happening so fast that no distress signal could be sent out as the survivors fled out at sea. One moment everything is calm, the rex wasn't breathing so they administered something to counter the tranquillisers used, but this causes the rex to have a sudden boost of energy and leads to it awakening on the deck of the ship. The captain orders the crew and any ingen hunters or staff to immediately sedate the rex or try and put it back to sleep, but they were unable to as it broke free. With one fierce roar the rex starts slaughtering the crew as they flee in any direction to get away, some head down below including into the cargo hold, whilst others head to the bridge, engine space or crew spaces. By now, a large chunk of the crew are dead or dying on deck, with some bitten, others stomped on and the rest knocked off the ship or possibly on a raft and out at sea. The rex ends up chasing one crew member below, or goes down there willingly after exerting its energy and goes to rest whilst a dying man closes the doors to the cargo hold. He appears to have his body mostly intact based on the way the officer is forced to yank on the hand and arm to retrieve the controls. By now, a few crew are hiding below whilst others are already off the ship and have escaped. By this time the ship was already nearing its final destination. To add to this, I don't believe it could be raptors. For one, when the rex was taken on-board, it was likely through the use of a helicopter, which lifted it up and onto the ship waiting off shore. Keep in mind that, to get the rex on the ship, you would need something to lift it up and carry it onto the ship waiting, or you'd have to move the rex and its cage overland with heavy trucks and, use a ramp, like a car ferry, to get the rex inside. But the problem eith the rapters theory comes in two forms, One, the hunters at the time of the T rex being captured, no longer had any trucks or vehicles that could've transported the t rex overland. Plus, they were still fairly deep in the interior of the island and far away from the coast, let alone any potential docks that might still be operational. Why is this important? Simple, it means Raptors would have no way onto the ship. Unless the Hunters or Ludlow had access to or requested the use of either a ship with a ramp (which the SS Venture doesn't appear to be) or had the man power to operate or protect a Dock they could use, more likely they used a helicopter like was seen in the beginning of the film when they first appeared. We saw them use them to transport heavy equipment including humvees, containers and other resources, likely from a ship or vessel just offshore. They repated the same process with the rex, but to get it off the island and onto a waiting ship.

i always thought that a bunch of compsognathus had snuck aboard considering how small they are and the hand could still be on the steering wheel because they would not be able to reach it unlike the velociraptor also they could fit through the door/climb the stairs the velociraptors are too wide to fit through the small ship doors and climb the stairs quickly

It was the Bull Rex that killed the crew. In the storyboard for The Lost World, we see a huge hole behind the bridge of the SS Venture (explanation for the hand on the wheel). The set designers of the film did a half-assed job on creating the destruction as illustrated on the storyboard sketch. But then again, Spielberg didn't want the viewers to see the obvious for the thrill factor, although it was executed so poorly, it just made fans of the film come up with numerous theories as to what killed the ship's crew. On deck, we see the cage where the Rex was contained in Isla Sorna destroyed. The Rex woke up from its slumber and the crew tried their best to keep it restrained, even using an excavator to hold the creature's head down. This only angered the Rex, which broke free from the cage and started picking off the crew. As to why it ended up on the cargo hold, many speculators say a crew trying to find a place to hide ran into the hold, luring the Rex into it. A wounded crew member went to the control panel and closed the cargo doors before succumbing to his wounds. I also have a theory why it couldn't be raptors or any other dinosaurs that killed the crew. Simply put, the SS Venture never docked anywhere near the island for anything unwanted to get in. Worrying for their safety after hearing the stories of fishermen disappearing in the island chain aptly called "The Five Deaths", they decided to wait in open water until the helicopters delivered the Rex cage aboard before setting sail. Remember that the InGen hunters entered Sorna via helicopters, not by amphibious landing. I figure helicopters would also be their way of exit out of the Island. Thus, the raptors or other dinos sneaking aboard the ship isn't plausible in my opinion.

Honestly there is another Dino that jurrasic park screwed up. The dilophasaur is a 30 ft predator not much smaller then the trex. But jurrasic park made it a touch bigger then the raptors. And it could've just as easily slipped on board since the first movie showed it is a very smart and very curious animal that is capable of taking on much larger prey. Nedry learned this the hard way

I was SERIOUSLY wondering this myself when I watched The Lost World the other night!! *My theory was that the T-Rex woke up while caged on the deck of the ship and one of the crew members barely managed to trap it inside the cargo hold. However, the boat steering wheel hand still leaves questions. It could be possible that the captain was struggling to do something (???) inside the cabin when the Rex grabbed him through the open door. It's a huge reach but it certainly would have made for a great sequence of events if it had been included in the film

I like that the music that starts at 3:04 is from "dino crisis" a videogame from 1999 about a rescue team coming to an island to bring a researcher back. Only, the machine that the researcher used during his work on "the third energy source" can move space and time so accidently the machine brings dinosaur to the island from millions of years ago to the same island the researchers are working at. It is the same developers that did the resident evil games that created this game.

I think that maybe the crew member went down to the cargo hold because he heard something than the Rex severely injured him and the crew member tried to get back to the bridge(control Center) but eventually his hand fell off and he died from blood loss and also people in the hull may have tried to evacuate by jumping in the ocean and some went to the cargo hold to see what happened and were completely eaten by the Rex.

Oh yeah, I saw that raptor video. I thought his eyes was silver or red, but it scares me to death scares the hell out of me.

I always thought it was the baby rex that got out and killed most of the crew. It would explain the lack of damage to the surrounding areas.

In the first Michael Crichton novel, juvenile Deinonychus snuck aboard the boat to the mainland, but the authorities were informed so they were presumably killed. That does leave the possibility of one or more terrible claws wandering around San Diego and making people disappear after having sneaked off the Venture while the T.rex was doing its whole mass panic-inducing rampage...

It's the buck rex, in old storyboards for the movie it shows it in a cage where a forklift driver ends up stabbing it's tail and it breaks out of the cage. It then destroys the crew and you can even see the whole in where he killed the crew members in the storyboard. You can watch klayton fiortis video on it. Ultimately it was scrapped due to speilberg wanting a more dramatic and suspenseful reveal where we don't see what killed them but we're led to believe it was the buck rex. I can't believe how many people taught it was raptors and/or the baby rex😂 valid theory but ultimately they wouldn't use chrichtons use of raptors stowing away on a boat, never have and most likely never will (sadly) but yeah that's the true answer

In my head cannon: The Tiger Velociraptors migrated onto the ss venture to try to make it to the main land. Things didnt go so well for the crew though as they where ripped to shreads and i think even a head got torn off but the point is... "You are alive when they start to eat you"

There was no crew, Shadows piloted the ship by remote control and crashed it into the harbor for lolz, he added in some fake body parts to make it seem like there was a crew that had been killed.

I’ve always liked the idea is was the juvenile rex. The gap in the container the adult Rex breaks out of could have been a large enough gap for the young rex to get out of. It pays homage to the juvenile rex from the original novel. Just my opinion of course, the lack of detail makes for more imagination. Love the videos!

Based on Raptors sneaking onto a ship in the first book and the lack of overall damage, it makes more sense that the Raptors were hiding, started picking off the crew one by one, the t-rex broke free, at which point the crew were focused on trying to get it into the cargo area while the raptors started picking off the remaining crew. Then when the ship arrived, everyone was so focused on the T-rex, nobody saw the raptors escape the ship.

Have you ever noticed the tradition of the jurassic park dinosaurs being compared to vampires? - The raptors where called 'upirs' in the book at one point, wether dark spirits or vampires. - The indoraptor was partially inspired by nosferatu, a dracula adaption. - And in stokers novel, dracula reaches england by sneaking on a ship and kiling everyone, except for the captain who ties himself to the wheel and dies from exhaust when sailing through a storm.

I like your Videos and how your explenations often turn out to be plausible in the end. I always held on to the Raptor-Theory because of the events in that first novel. All in all I think that in this case we´ve fell victim to very lazy writing! :D

If anything like the first Micheal Crichton book, we know that the raptors would sneak onto ships and travel wherever they went. I always thought it was raptors who killed the crew, not the Rex

I would say teranadons, it makes sense as they could get to various parts of the ship, kill everyone and fly off. Also they could have flown onto the ship instead of already being there.

The short answer is poor, irresponsible script writing! The entire movie should have ended after they put the T-Rex on the ship. The rest should have been kept to an alternative 3rd movie! Also I think there were several other story related problems with this movie not just this!

the evidence of the Sorna Raptors from the Dino Tracker is good, but there's one flaw. The Raptors from the Lost World and JP3 are separate breeds, plus they are found in a separate section of the island. The ones from the Lost World are lowland raptors, while the ones on the Dino Tracker are highland raptors. Meaning it couldn't have been those two

My opinion a mystery creature on Isla Sorna would sneak on this creatures the troodon why? Well there’s a reason this overpowered creatures only mentioned in the novels and the reason I believe it was the troodon is because how did the Sorna raptors and blue not fight or atleast become apart of a pack that blue lead?!? Like they must’ve been small now which we see 2 which is usual that’s how the Sorna raptors hunt and scout in duos or squads while the rest stay behind as back up so the way they have gone unseen and undetected for the last 2 decades is insane and how these dinosaurs are very destructive but can still be sneaky they were caught quickly while other dinosaurs stayed hidden but we haven’t seen any troodon be caught. Why? Because novel troodon are op and are canon since we see them in the novels and JWE and JWTG and I thing JWA too and maybe JPTG but idk about the last 2 but the first 2 yes, and maybe we will see them in the next movie since it has been teased with the DNA still there which also I remember has TROODON DNA inside. There's also a bit of a red herring/unreliable narration, in several locations in the scene, relating to the geography of the InGen dock. First, the radar screen has 0 degrees at the top, which indicates north, but irl San Diego Harbor actually opens to the west, not north, and the harbor turns south, not east. The radar image should be flipped over and rotated 90 degrees clockwise. Second, the radar shows the dock is on the outside of the harbor, facing the open ocean. But based on the view of the San Diego skyline as the Trex leaves the dock, the most likely location is actually right next to the Coast Guard, at 32° 43' 34.1292" N, 117° 10' 51.3984" W. Coming up from the south, the ship would have to make four turns to get into the harbor and reach the dock. With the crew members hand holding the cargo door control tightly, rigor mortis has set in, which takes 3 to 4 hours. At top speed, that ship would take roughly ten minutes to enter the harbor and reach the dock. That means that someone had to have been steering the ship within the last few minutes before crashing. A raptor wouldn't be able to do that, but a human would. Perhaps even a team of humans, who were sent to kill the crew and deliberately release the Trex. Why? Well, if you have plans to try weaponizing these animals, you probably want a real-world test, to see how much damage an untrained, minimally modified animal could cause in an urban environment.

That is a very good point, I’ve never thought much about it but now I am. Raptors seems like the logical answer but they weren’t on the boat and they were on the island in the end. I think that is the reasonable answer, or maybe it was the baby T-Rex and are the two people on the bridge. Can’t really figure it out, love the video though!

I always thought that maybe the baby rex was responsible for at least some of it. Ludlow's death shows that it's very capable of killing despite its age and recent injury. It doesn't seem to have any noticeable difficulty moving around, which seems unrealistic but actually tracks since any animal back in the day either had to heal up fast and get moving or they were lunch, and that went double for juveniles. Rex Jr could've metabolized the tranq a lot faster than the crew was prepared for and gotten out of containment, given that the bunch Ludlow hired were mercenary types rather than animal experts. Roland brought down the daddy rex by loading him up with the most powerful tranq he could get his hands on, but they would've been a lot more delicate with the lil one as they didn't want to kill them.

The scene was an obvious reference to Dracula, killing the crew on his way to London, but this was a mistake for moviemaking. It would have to have been a smaller predator, which would logically be set loose on the mainland. They had the same issue in JP3, with the attack on the speedboat which was practically impossible.

It might have been the baby T-Rex but that kinda doesn't make sense because you see it muzzled at the unfinished ingen project.

I thought it was the baby rex that was on board as it was left completely free and it is strong enough to kill but small enough not to cause the major damages.

There is another theory that the crew was attacked and killed by a sea creature. Maybe InGen DID clone a Mosasaurus before Jurassic World (plus, there was a Tylosaurus in Jurassic Park: The Game). Still doesn’t explain the hand, though….

It never made sense to blame Buck for the death of the crew. I mean, he was heavily sedated to the point where he nearly died. No way even he could recover THAT quickly. I always figured it was compies because they would be small and fast enough to sneak onboard without detection, and the books have compies using boats to get to the mainland. Raptors at least have the intelligence to jump ship, but we've never seen them swim so I have my doubts about them. But really the blame is shotty writing and developers rather than dinosaurs

In my opinion it was a pack of trodons ( the dinosaurs in Lego Jurassic world ) because behind a door in the San Diego level in Lego Jurassic world near the cabin there is a pack of trodons for some reason but I think that is the way they died

What I think is stupid is that they didn't leave the rex in the original restraints that they put it in on the island. However, given that these people who are being put in charge of the dinosaurs aren't particularly smart, let alone know the proper dosage of sedatives to administer, I can actually see how the rex may have ended up in the cargo hold sans restraints. One of the things that has always bugged me is the attack on the ship had to have occurred when they were relatively close to the mainland for the ship to maintain its heading. That makes me think that the rex was kept in the restraint for most of the trip on deck. But when the sedatives showed signs of being too strong a dosage, they used a harness to quickly move into the cargo hold where they could also administer counteractive drugs in too strong a dosage. At that point, I can definitely see a few raptors having stowed away in the cargo hold, and going unnoticed until the it was opened to put the rex in, and ultimately disturbing them, and unleashing them on deck where they massacre the crew who are still trying to contain the rex that is now wide awake. Since they're nowhere in sight once the ship reached the mainland, I think there's a good possibility that they were rex appetizers and/or went overboard in the chaos.

Shadows I have been talking about this at my house after I watched the lost world, so I think there is a raptor or a pack of compys because that hand that was on the wheel it was torn off and if it was the T.Rex the SS Venture would have been destroyed so I think a raptor or compys were on the ship and that two bodies were not fully destroyed and eaten because the hand on the wheel was the only thing that made the body torn in half and the other hand with the remote clapped on the button was connected to the body so he might’ve have died just from the bites, if it was the Rex the whole body would be eaten just like how the Rex ate the dog and man later on when it goes into the city now it had to be a raptor because the raptor from the first Jurassic park the raptor tore off Ray Arnold’s arm. So the Rex ate the crew and then compys or raptors that attacked and killed those other two crew members. but hey that just a Theory a lost and Jurassic theory thxs for reading shadows and by the way love your channel.

I been saying this for years, like how is every one dead an the trex is locked under the deck...there all dead in a intact cabin.....something had to kill the crew after trex was locked up

problem the raptors suspected to have been on the ship were seen in 2001 still on isla sorna one of the raptor showed had quils now look at the raptor in 2001 same pattern and more inportantly quills. so it's more likely the got drunk and opened the cargo door the t-rex killed them all while getting tired and shaking the ship cause the hand with the door controls to where it was while shuting the door but just a theory could have been another asset on board so add to if you like👍

I think it was raptors because if you look at the dino tracker stuff you see more raptors that look similar to the ones on sorna so I think that the raptors jumped off the boat when it hit the Pier and ran off to find some place to hide and/or nest

I think maybe it’s a flying predator problem, not necessarily the Rex, otherwise the arm would not have been on the ships wheel. The Rex could’ve easily bit the ships wheel rooms roof off. Unless it was magically the baby Rex that ate that man, but he was injured.

But the thing is the raptors on the dino tracker appear in jp3 so the raptors on the dino tracker can't escape from the ship cause the show up on isla sorna after San Diego

Can a raptor swim? because the SS. Venture was still pretty far out to sea when we saw it "incoming" and even then we still did not see any raptor on board with the T-Rex.

It sounds like you heard Klayton's theory and disagree. I heard his theory first and said it could've been both the raptors and the rex. I mean in the first JP, the raptors were down to hunt down whoever they saw; i.e, Ellie, Alan and the kids. The raptors continued to pursue them until the rex got involved. I personally think the pteranodons. If raptors snuck on the ship, how come we don’t find any of them on the boat or carcasses of them?

lol when the movie explained who killed the crews via series of unfortunate events beginning with loading t-rex that was placed in a metal framed harness and was place on the deck of the ship rather than in the cargo and as the ship travels the t-rex went into cardiac arrest due to the tranquilizer it was given and they had to give it an amphetamine to save it but unfortunately they didn't know the correct dosage to give it and it end up them giving it to much and it suggested the t-rex broke through the metal framed harness and rampage through the ship and attacking its crew and fatally wounding the last guy who manage to trap it in the cargo.

Well out of universe it was just because last minute Spielberg decided to scrap the island finale and do a King Kong ripoff and didn't think it through at all. His logic was T Rex did the crew in, but then got trapped...because reasons.

Here I thought it was just bad writing, having the hand on the wheel for the shock value.

I just think it was a continuity error

Probably the buck Rex as some evidence suggests. This is an awesome movie but some things aren’t explained properly. Doesn’t mean it’s bad.
