Love homemade applesauce, my mom would make it when I was younger and apple trees were still here. Both have passed on but the memories are still here. God Bless
Wow,this is great. Watching your pigs grow will be fun.Hope they grow well for you. Our family farm had raised many thousands of them over the years. The pork and apple 🍎 sauce make good eating. We also had apple trees that made lots of apple treats. Apple pie made with lard crust is my favorite! My wife is a very good cook. Thanks!
I have one of those pressers made by Squezzo that makes making juices, salsa, and several other garden and fruits easy to can. Tomato juice, is one that is easy and I have to add water to cut it some as it otherwise is to acidic for some to drink. Same with the grape juice. Your channel is one that is true to home grown hard work that all ways makes my day, keep up the good work making these movies.
That's an interesting contraption! I wondered how you dealt with leaving the peels on. I have a "cheatier" way of making applesauce, but I have to peel and core them first, so I'm not sure it's really a "cheat." I just toss the wedges into a crockpot and let them cook down all day. But it's pretty much just me, no crew to enjoy the process with. You are blessed to have each other! I remember the days when my mom and aunts and I would gather to cook up a mess of whatever. Boy, those were fun times!
Guess there are lots of different ways to make applesauce, it’s all a matter of preference- as long as it is eaten and enjoyed(that’s what counts). Yes we are so blessed to have each other. Thanks for watching!
Always a little more special when every one is back home for the day, Little pigs will surely add to the mix foe the days ahead, Love seeing you all together. GOD is Good.
We decided to get a pot belly pig for my horse for a buddy he wouldnt go in the stall for 3 days!! Was so scared of her! They became best buddies and time our pot belly would go out of site of him hed call and whinny! Thanks for sharing
I think every time I make a comment, I get a response. On this video, so far, you have over a 1,000 views. Really shows you appreciate your viewers. We enjoy your show too, to let you know. Appreciate your dedication.
Hello Jim and Brenda and family. Funny how the horses react to different changes, how each have there own personality. I just had to smile and thats why I watch your videos. Nice job ladies making applesauce all the sights and sounds of a wonderful day. I will soon sit down to a dinner pork chops with applesauce mashed potatoes and green beans. Blessings from our heavenly father. Have a great day.
I have a couple of pigs-- my horses are fine with them--just curious-- so funny as your horses are so calm and experienced! it must be the screaming they don't like.
Love making home made apple sauce.........do you ever make apple fruit leather for roll ups? So good, and the kids love it or just a quick snack it's great. I use the entire apple skin and all and just puree it all for fruit leather or applesauce and just a tad of sugar if any and sometimes a dash of cinnamon or so. Very good! Loved your video.......looks delicious.
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim I forgot to add for the fruit leather I just put it on wax paper on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven on 150 overnight and take it out in the AM.....it takes the moisture out and leave it sit on counter and when it is tacky dry just start to peel it on one end and roll it tightly off the wax paper into delicious snacks ................ don't pour it on deeply just enough to coat the wax paper well but don't flood it. It's easy and so yummy
Smushie! Someone who uses my terminology. That is the same way that I explained it to my oldest son. I also made apple jelly using my apple skins. Also have made apple pie filling and apple pies to freeze. It is more fun to make when you have help in the kitchen.
A few years ago, I had a couple of hogs to take to the butcher. I ask my neighbor to borrow his stock trailer and he hauls horses and cattle in it. He said that a horse would not get into the trailer after pigs had been in it. He is the type of guy that would do anything for you .
I don't think Lady is entirely convinced about the pigs! LOL Having said that, I have never seen impatience on your farm before; Piglets and Apple sauce on the same day? Now that is a threat of intent! LOL. Be well all. ;o)
Is the sound lady is making a warning or just a general sign of displeasure or something else? Does she sense the pigs more by sound or smell or both? What do you think bothers her about the pigs?
I agree cleaning the squeeso strainer isn’t fun , my sister and I had a large laundry basket full of ugly bumpy pears ,we end up with 34 pints of pear sauce, having 2 or more people canning is more fun
Hello, I’m very surprise by that sort of vue from « America », I’m living in a very small farm in the south Normandy ( retraites) with a big garden, some animals; bees, poultry, highland cattles, a horse and a lot of agricole practices. How far your are from the American model for us, I think a new world is possible!, we are working for that... A bientôt, Rémi Pinet
Have never seen a processing machine like that. Beats the heck out of peeling. Can you use it to process tomato sauce? Recently learned that some horses have an aversion to pigs, because, pigs go in packs and can be carnivores. It's an instinct leftover from pre domestication days.
Reminds me when I was younger my hores hated pigs to no end, and we had to ride past the pasture they in, she almost dumped me on several times when the pigs would rush the fence, she would start snorting and blowing, to side steeping, then rearing up, the trying to run off fighting the bit, I could hardly control her, and the pigs would rush the fence everything we went down the lane, she just could not stand them and this happen for years
... and I think smell is the sens that forget the less of the five one ... Ah ah ... I smells pigs ... I've heard more than once a single piglet will not fatten as well as if it were in a group.
Jim, you have to buy a spot light to your cam, to put light in videos, specialty inside and early morning or late afternoon. Ps: Jim you can name the piglets: bacon, chop and entrecôte. 😁
You have so big of space. Yet you put them against those loyal horse of yours, knowing they dislike it! worse. You expected them to get use to it! Thanks, I will unsubcribe this channel. Of course u will get used to it as well
Love it -- piglets, applesauce, and your Albert Einstein quote - "In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity." Thank you; I needed that reminder today. Love your wonderful kitchen too, and to see the three of you enjoying yourselves.
I love Hampshires. We had a Hampshire boar many years ago who was so gentle that kids could ride him, even though he was almost 800 lbs. I kept a lot of his daughters because they were really gentle too. My weaning average went up with such good, gentle sows. I like your strainer. It looks like it is better about not leaking juice all over the kitchen than mine is.
I have actually been helping my wife make apple sauce the last few days for us and her sister . But I haven't seen a processor like that .She uses a hand potato masher .
The pigs might enjoy the apples leftovers. Love watching you cook , best wishes from Carol and Sue the North Norfolk coast UK, keep safe and well everyone.
Fritz Growing up in California, we had one apple tree in the yard. My mom made the most of those apples. We had apple pie, apple jelly and apple butter every year and sometimes baked whole apples with brown sugar! Thanks for the memory and enjoy your American pie!
Getting in the Holiday Spirit. I'm thankful for you and your family while projecting what the vast majority of American Citizens appreciate for the life we have and values we hold dear. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS.
Great way to make Applesauce and even Tomato Juice. My Father had one of those grinders or processors. His was metal that’s how old his was. Thank you for another great video.
Apparently I've been doing wrong all these years! I just throw the cored apples & spices in a blender, pour it into jars and call it good. I don't have that fancy grinder. 😜
Poor Lady having to live near piggies. Never seen her trot in the barn before! So nice of the girls to make kitchen contributions in support of their mom. Thank you for sharing.🤞🏻🐴
This video brings me back in time when I was a little boy, when my grandfather had pigs and when my mom taught me how to make a meal the first time which was applesauce. I would like to taste your applesauce, you're doing it a different way than I do :-) For sure it tastes very good. We have had a bad apple year this year, so almost no apples. Also no cherries no plums.. :-( Guess it was too cold in May. Have a nice day everyone!
Everybody loves pulled pork, nobody likes pigs. That's why pig is such a negative word no one wants to be associated with, horse, on the other hand, is a positive word. I get mad when someone calls me a pig.
Hello Jim and Brenda. Lady seems a little bit jealous.. She would rather"hog" your attention. I'm glad to see that my kitchen isn't the only one that smells like apples. Tis the season. That was nice to have the family helping with the canning. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. 🇺🇸
I love making applesauce. I have a Victoria Strainer. I wash my apples and cut out the bad part, cook the apple until soft and put it all through the strainer, core and all. Strainer does a great job of kicking out the peel, and core with the seeds. Doing mine next week.
Mares notice things more than geldings. Built in mother-safety software. 😀 I was trail riding my mare a few years ago and the trail bordered a pig pasture. We could hardly even see the pigs but she knew they were there. She was terrified! Heart beating so hard that I could feel it through the saddle!
@@janw491 Yeah lady’s reaction to some thing that she was freaked out about makes me want to get a draft horse. If that’s a freak out, then that’s a whole lot safer than what I have been through with riding horses
I wish I could introduce you to the joys of Peasegood Nonsuch (some call it Nonesuch). Huge apples, waxy skin, that are second-to-none (hence the name Nonesuch) when it comes to apple dessert or sauce..
Homemade apple sauce….mmmm good! Yup horses JUST don’t like 🐖! I think it is the smell of them! I couldn’t believe it…this summer my boy actually SNIFFED NOSE to NOSE with a red piglet, I just about fell over backwards when de did it! Normally his head is high, he snorts, gets wide eyed and wants to race past the pen to get away from there! Enjoy your apple sauce🍎🥣
Use to love watching this, but it's changed a bit and not as much Jim with the horses anymore. And always an ad somewhere to buy something. Just don't care much for the new direction it's going. Great videos though.
Just seen your applesauce making want to try something extra-special get yourself French vanilla ice cream I'm all the applesauce is still warm and unsweetened put a good portion of the warm applesauce over French vanilla ice cream and sprinkle with cinnamon
My wife's 1st born , my step daughter came from the city and of course we served garden fresh corn on the comb. She says where did you buy this corn. It's the best I have eaten. I told her it came fresh from the garden. Good things come from gardens.
Lady isnt the only horse that doesnt like pigs. However, her reaction was funnnny 😃. Animals can be weird at times. But that is what makes them interesting. The apple sauce looks delish. Heck with your T-shirts....sell me sauce!!! 😃😃😃😃
I was glad to see you can some of that applesauce, It will taste great with those piglets someday. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.) Thanks, again, for another fun video.
