Australian feral horses like these are called brumbies which are desendants of early domestic horses that were abandoned or escaped. They were named after James Brumby and are called that to tell them apart from domestic horses so when they're culled to protect the native enviroment, it's the feral ones culled and not the domestic ones. Brumbies are smaller, leaner and more muscular than most domestic horses, giving them the advantage of needing less food and water to survive.
