I honestly like this ending better; it humanizes Horus more and gives him a moment to realize his folly, and how foolish all of it was, and it's neat for the emperor to actually show some humanity in his forgiveness of Horus.

Neat. One thing that didn't sit well with the old lore is The Emperor driving the Chaos out of Horus with some Sailor Moon soul purifying blast he coulda done from the start. This one sits better.

I really, really hope we do get a series about the Scouring and the Legion Wars. Would be a lot of fun to see how the traitor legions continue to break down and fracture.

As much as the Loken death elicits anger, in my opinion it is perfect. Having there be a connection to Loken and Samus makes sense and it highlights precisely that Erebus and Chaos is literally evil; there is no morality, just actions. Samus needed to be born for things to play out so Erebus 'birthed' it by killing Loken unjustly. The fact that it has elicited anger in so many fans is why it is perfect, you feel precisely what everyone who witnessed the action felt, it was an act so utterly evil that evil needed to be born from it, an evil born from and end and a death

I love it. This was a perfect ending, aside from Ollanius's presence kind of feeling like an afterthought. I have done a 180 on my opinions of the Emperor AND Abbaddon, and of everything they may yet do I am probably most excited for a novel about the Iron Cage.

So admitting you have not read any of the Siege of Terra series (since only on book 40) you have had to rely on others videos.... How is this not you copying them? I listened to the entire book in one day. I had a dream that night of the emperor being carried to the throne crying out in pain wishing to not be placed on it. Unable to speak and his powers drained nobody hears him. With the last thing we ever hear of the Emperor is his angonizing scream in his mind begging for death as he is placed on the throne, and it consumes him. His final unwilling sacrifice

Probably the best 40k book I've read. Ollanious is the MVP, his standing against Horus made me shed a tear. What a great book this was.

I do enjoy the personal moments of 40k. Obviously it’s over the top and wild and overly grim but the best moments to me will always be the characters. Like Perty deciding he’s had enough of being disrespected his entire life and leaving or Horus asking for forgiveness and being granted it by his father, who just not only lost two of his oldest friends, but an overwhelming majority of his sons, and personally had to kill his favourite. That sort of thing is peak warhammer to me, the characters and how they interact with each other.

So the emperor turned down to become the chaos God of ruin so he can be the god of Paralympics.

For people newer to Wh40k this ending is pretty intense. For a person like me in there 40s who grew up with the lore, and who has been in some pretty heated and intense discussions about the story, it's a little overwhelming.

I absolutely hate how OP Sigismund was in and around the duel with Kharn, and how weak they made out Kharn to be. And the Custodians suddenly being budget primarchs compared to Space Marines also really didn't fit with how they were described in older books. They might be slightly stronger than most Astartes, but before the siege it felt like (some) Astartes might have an edge over them at least.

There's a really cool list that shows which Horus Heresy books are important and which aren't, with four categories: Required, important, somewhat important, and skip it. There's "only" like 28 books that are either Required or Important, where they move the story along and/or include important plot points, but if you want to go balls deep, you can include the 9 "somewhat" books too, for a total of 37. That means there are 25 books that are pretty much filler, or are good 40K novels, but have little to do with the Heresy, except for it being a backdrop for the book. (Yeah, I know there are ~192 stories, but they aren't all actual books.) Personally, I'd just read the 28 that matter most, unless you're a terminal 40K nutcase (or a particular faction means a lot to you), and even then I would just go back and read the rest after finishing the main story. Also, there's a good reading order list or two to check out, because after _Fulgrim_ everything shoots out in all directions. (pun intended)

I still think that retconning Ollanius Pious into a perpetual weakens his character immensely. He used to represent the fact that anybody, even a lowly guardsman, can change the course of galactic history by being in the right time, at the right place and doing the right thing. Now he is a super-special perpetuel. Which destroys that symbol of hope. Now nobody except special main characters can change anything. I can admit that his character is probably really good for the Emperor and his story. But the old Pious was a much more powerful symbol

Stayed up waaaaay to late reading this. Halfway though and so far a better paced story then vol 2. Just seemed like every time I wanted to set it down and go to sleep something interesting was happening.

Very mixed feelings. Dont mind what happened to much except for the sanguinius part was absolutly pointless in the end. Would have been easy to sidestep. Horus saying something like " i know why your here brother and what you saw but this is my reality and i control it"...or something like that. But to have sang Die the way he did after how many years of him knowing how he was going to die help taking down horus and excepting it was all just pointless. Like i said it would have taken only a couple of words from horus to sidestep it.

Jeezzz.. Ive been reading this series since 2008. I started with the first and now im waiting for Amazon to deliver the final book ( was supposed to get it Tuesday,,then they as usual delayed delivering it and Im supposed to get it tomorrow).. Its been a ride, I can tell you that. I was sitting talking to an old friend in 2008 and said I wish they would detail the Horus Heresy... He answered with " It just so happens,,,," and I got my hands on the first three books from him the next day,,thus began my descent down the rabbit hole... And it has been a wild ride..Ive been waiting 16 years for this book.. Once it comes in I will have the entire series. This is truly a historic event.

I doubt I'll reach the end of the Horus Heresy in this lifetime because, I don't know how it is in english, but in french, it's impossible to find thebooks. It looks like they don't want to reprint them anymore

But what happened to malcador in the book? (Ik that he dies) Do they mention his death or they will continue it in another book?
