I'm 71 and remember as a kid their was a soft drink called Shasta which used this song in its commercials. It featured three women singing and dancing to the song dressed in time period costumes. Good to hear this again. Great performance!
I'm so glad this style of music is making a comeback, not that it really ever left to begin with. JUST discovered this band and they do this song justice! Glad no butchering was involved in the playing of this song. Thanx HS, now I'm on a quest to see what other gems you have out there on the web.
Bei Mir Bist du was written IN NY in the early Thirties by Secunda It was written in Yiddish ...hence your assumption. It had a small following and then was taken up by the Andrews sisters in translation . Then the Bagelman (Berry) sisters rebooted it in Yiddish post WWII. Their version is outstanding. it's on the net too. Possibly under Barry sisters - by some ignorant US uploader (I did try to get that fixed to no avail) . Look under that and Berry sisters and you will find it. TE. Fidler NzL
Nothing wrong with that. I listen to the oldies station all the time and I'm 27 lol band class was just the best, and the jazzy stuff on saxophone was fun as hell to play.
Like so many genres jazz has many I love this style of jazz as I enjoy big band music too. You clearly have an open mind to music so I'm sure it will be a good journey for you.
One of the Best Videos made: Great song, talented Musicians- well balanced musically, Great photography-video, direction- shows lots of fun for everyone. Great BEAT, you don't need to know what She's singing to love this. Video-directors can learn a lot from this one ! Well Done !!
I love this version of the song. I lived a good chunk of my life traveling by NYC subways and the final 'door-closing' tone instantly transports me back to the days when it signified getting home from work!
Music with echoes of the past On a train going nowhere in New York, Our music is in the hearts but not on the train. You can be a hero And follow the beat of the drum, save lives on the train but they put you in jail. The echoes of tourism That once was and no longer is. It has past but no future. The echo of the music lives on.
V Keyptaunskom portu, S proboinoy v bortu, "Zhanetta" popravlyala takelazh. I prezhde chem uyti V dalokiye kraya, Na bereg byl otpushchen ekipazh))) In the port of Cape Town With a hole in the board “Jeanette” corrected the rigging. And before you leave To distant lands The crew was released ashore))) There's apparently a movie out last year in Russian "In the port of Cape Town" - any relationship?
What an exhilarating breath of fresh air!! Swing, jazz, soul, lively energy, punchy rhythms, brass, percussion, amazing vocals, and amazing talent wrapped in a wonderful Art Deco mindset that I lust after. This is fucking fantastic!! Musicians with real talent....extreme talent coming together in such harmony. I'm thankful for people that go beyond the mass pop.
Я знаю про тебя: «You are my perfect man!» You are my perfect man!
Thank you for the lyrics. And, also thank God for Google translate, so I can see finally what that song is about.. Its filled with beautiful thoughts of joy that comes from real love.
There's a fair bit of swing dancing going on if you look, and a touch of Charleston as well. A little cramped in a subway car to be throwing down sick swing outs perhaps!
