I love it! I had one in 1973. It was a different model that I think did 6 hot dogs, and it was rectangular with a flat instead of curved top. I used that thing so many times! I was 15, and won it at my first job when the place was brand new and had a day of giving all the staff prizes. Thanks for this video!

@mommymode1985 I actually own a leather wallet on a job a had in Brazil, we had a competition and I own it. Really nice, really good quality - the only good thing the company ever did for me, the manager was a nightmare. This was back in 2015 too, I don't know about now (the store closed a year after I left).
@dindog22
@dindog22 5 лет назад
I had the rectangular one too. it was trimmed in red. I had a paper route and the carriers could earn something called Bonus Bucks for prizes. you chose prizes out of the catalogue. I saved up my bonus bucks for the hot dogger. I thought it was the greatest thing ever and I was so proud that I earned it.
@yossarian6799
@yossarian6799 4 месяца назад
@@dindog22 my older brother won that same rectangular model, "Presto Hot Dogger", as a prize. He was a paper boy too so probably the same scheme. The cord was attached to the lid and had to be handwashed. It's almost funny to think how amazed we were as kids to watch a hot dog cook. If you left it plugged in too long though, the franks would split open and some arcing would occur.

My husband loved that machine. We got one at a garage sale after we were married in the late 70's. I thought it was a bit dumb. Considering very few people had microwave ovens at that time any fast cookery machine was novel. We got our first microwave in 78/79 it took up most of an entire counter it was so large and bulky. lol

In 1969 my parents took us on a 9000 mile 6 week tour across the USA in a Dodge Travco 27 foot motorhome. My mom asked Amana Co if she could buy a microwave oven to road test the unit. They gave her one free of charge. We impressed people all over the USA because microwave ovens were rare in those days. Amana told her that an identical Radarange was used by the returned Moon mission astronauts who were quarantined inside a special Airstream trailer. That unit took to the road like a champ and was later used in my college dorm room. And yes, mom had a wiener electrocuter, too.

Emmy, you should try the chilean version of hot dogs, they are called: completos :) just add smashed avocado, chopped tomato cubes and mayonesse, its the favourite street food here in chile and its delicious, you will not regret ;) this recipe its called: completo italiano, its the most common, and its called like that because of the colors of the italian flag... Im writing too much, but id really love you watching you eating a completo ♥️♥️♥️ also you can add some aditional sauces like ketchup, mustard, and whatever you like. Just enjoy the flavor of hot dog with avocado and tomato and mayo, you will not regret i promisse♥️♥️♥️

I had a Hot Dogger when I was in grade school. I used it all the time. I credit it for starting my love of cooking, and the inherent science-violence of the thing delighted the rascal in me. I was a boy, what can I say? Also, nobody really had microwaves in the 70s and early 80s--they were huge and expensive--so this was a really cool alternative to using the stove. No adult supervision needed!

I had one of those, took it to college in 1971! A couple of things I learned, after awhile the prongs corrode, you can snap the metal parts out of the plastic housing and clean the prongs with a wire brush. Also if you leave it plugged in too long you will incinerate the ends of the hot dogs!

Before this product came out, I made one using a sanded coat hanger and just plugged it in. The hot dog is a variable resistor and when the moisture is cooked out, the current automatically stops, This works but be ware of shocks since it isn't shielded.

Years ago I was at a picnic where the barbecue pit had a power outlet. Someone mentioned that pickles turn fluorescent when you plug them in, and someone else said, "I wonder what happens when you plug in a hot dog? Next thing ya know, someone grabs a hot dog, and someone else sticks two paper clips into one end. As for how to plug it in, that's when every eye in the group turned to the one guy with an artificial arm. He wound up putting the hot dog in the artificial arm, them removed the artificial arm and plugged it in. The hot dog kind of buzzed with a 60 cycle hum. It didn't really cook, but it was only plugged in on one end. Somewhere we have video of this.

I think we had one of those back in the 70s. They were pretty fun. Nowadays though, microwaves are ubiquitous, so I couldn't see the need for a stand-alone device that would give you a hot dog that's not all that different from a microwaved one.

Stick a pickle in it..Not to eat,but just to watch the light show. :) I DIY'd something like this once during a power outage+snow storm. I used a 300 Watt power inverter,12 Volt SLA battery,a couple forks,and an old power cord from something. Highly dangerous,but it was hot food when I was starving,and unable to cook anything else,or leave the house to get more food. I think I got the idea from watching Mr.Wizard,many years ago.

Pretty cool. Back when I worked at the radio factory, one of the guys found some brass nails. He put 'em in a plank of wood, hooked up a power cord to it, stuck a hot dog across the nails & plugged it in. (Yeah, it was super dangerous: if you plugged it in & touched the nails, you'd get electrocuted.) . . . We found that (a) the internal resistance of the hot dog increases the longer it stays electrocuted. Thus it will reach a point where it is cooked beyond edible. Like crispy-crittered big time. Reducing the voltage proved Ohm's Law and the hot dog "cooked" more slowly but the internal resistance just too longer to reach the highest point, whereupon the hot dog no longer passed current. You could watch the voltage rise from beginning to end as the resistance went up. One of the guys figured out a formula for the point where the hot dog was cooked enough to still be edible. Wish I'd kept that chart ;-) . . . Good ol' electricity. Lord Rutherford was right: After physics, everything else is stamp collecting. Or hot dog cooking.

Emmy just can’t stop laughing at the absurdity of this product. My Dad actually had one of these things. It was a gift from someone. It worked for its advertised purpose. But cooking hot dogs was all it did. Maybe you could use it to cook other frankfurter-shaped foods (bananas? dill pickle spears? small lobsters?), but I never heard of anyone cooking anything but hot dogs or bratwursts with the Hot Dogger. And there are about 100 other ways to cook a hot dog. The Hot Dogger is also harder to clean than, say, a frying pan or a saucepan that you’ve cooked weenies in. It might be worth having if you eat hot dogs every day, but who eats hot dogs every day? This brand, Presto, sold a lot of single-purpose small appliances like the Hot Dogger. I think there was a donut maker and an ice cream maker and a corn popper. The corn popper was popular. But the ubiquity of microwave ovens has evaporated most of the market for home corn poppers. It’s faster, easier, and less messy to pop corn in a microwave, and the corn tastes just as good. So, as always, think long and hard before you acquire a device that does what a frying pan does, but takes up extra space in the kitchen.

We had one of these growing up. Us kids always bought mom something like this. We had a burger maker too, like a waffle iron without the grid. This thing ruined hot dogs. They tasted like metal.

Electrical saftey vids often feature hot dogs proxy fingers to show the results of touching high voltage live parts. They usually blow up.

Emm, have you experienced the Puka Dog? It’s my go to for best hotdogs. Started in th 00’s on Kauai, the place does polish sausage on a handmade roll which they skewer on a specially made pike over the grill so the insides are toasted and add special House made sauce combos! I love it so much that in one short trip I ate 8 separate times there.... AND... I had the sauces shipped to me where I bought a tiny curling iron to do the buns up right and served to my friends who couldn’t join us! If you have an interest in giving it a try let me know and I’ll get to sauces and the how to to you!

I had one of these, after a while the plastic tabs that hold the metal electrodes broke, rendering it useless. cooked hotdogs fine. we used a similar method in college. cut the female end off a small extension cord, strip the plastic off the ends and wrap on two metal forks. poke each fork into each end of said hotdog, plug cord into wall, et voila, cooked dogs....

I looked online and haven't been able to find it my mom has a hot dog steamer I think it was made by Sunbeam. It looks like a little dog house he reminds me of Snoopy's house because the basis weight in the top that comes out is the roof and it's red. You take the roof off and put a little bit of water in the base which is a little metal catch basin and then there's a steamer rack how many 4/5 hot dogs at once. And you can set the rules on the roof and it's vented steamed rolls as well. My dad bought it Heartland grocery store or Pharmacy in Walpole Massachusetts in the early 80s. We were visiting my aunt's and we were there for Christmas. So my dad got a couple of things free under the tree from Santa. That was one of the gifts that he got for my mom
