Nixon was right when he said "It depends on who writes the history" to Kissinger. But, based on his record of ending the Vietnam War, and extending a hand of friendship to China to join the industrial world, he was, indeed, a very good president.

@@jamesopiela yup, if memory serves he also formed the EPA, which, depending on your point of view, was a good thing or a bad thing

I like Nixon but I don't think he knew how badly opening up to China would affect the world

Right and what about when he sabotaged peace talks before he took office so that he could get credit for winning the war, and expanded the war when he was in office, secretly bombing other countries with one of the largest bombing campaigns in human history?

Unlike Fidel Castro Nixon didn't say " La Historia me Absorberá" today I can't think of another Leader more Absorbed by History including Castro than Nixon..

I lived through it. It was the Trump persecution first time. America's Democrat enemies and their media going after a good President. He should have stayed in and stood up to the vile bastards.

Getting us out of Vietnam. Opening the door to China. The SALT treaty. Starting the MidEast peace process. He did so much and it's a tragedy to think of all that was left undone, but that he could have accomplished if he had just been able to finish his second term.

But, I ask respectfully. Not with sarcasm, what does that exactly mean ? We didn't need the door open. Now, we're flooded with their manufacturing instead of our own. The communist China is well off where if they were poor , the government I mean, they wouldn't becas much ofva threat. I think Nixon was a statesman and I'm not sure now what I make of Watergate.

I am Canadian so my opinion is irrelevant. I am 61 years old. I didn't care about Watergate. I just wanted to watch the Flintstones and Gilligan's Island. But even being an old Canadian - it would be nice to have one man or woman - a leader - who owned up. A leader with accountability. The world changed. President Nixon KNEW the world was changing. Listening to President Nixon talk 50 years ago - he KNEW what was going to happen today. Even if Nixon brought China into Capitalism - President Nixon KNEW that everyone else would eff it up. I was not a fan of Watergate or politics when I was a child - I am still not - 50 years ago this man KNEW what was going to happen today. We do not have leaders or politicians anymore. We have internet personalities. A leader makes hard decisions. A leader doesn't go on Instagram or Facebook or Twitter. A leader goes to war, and he/she deals with the shit that they are handed. You think President Nixon lied? Just listen to what is happening now. I am Canadian. God Bless America. You are my cousins. My sisters. My brothers. I am terrified that is gone now. I love you America. We need you.

I'm an American who loves Canadians. The West is threatened by forces within. Nixon had great leadership which these videos reveal. His biggest mistake was going off the gold standard on the assumption that future generations would care and be educated about the threat of deficit spending. We are close to finding that out and it will reduce the US to third world status for a generation.

I don't have to imagine it , I lived through it. Nixon was smart in how he saw the hand writing on the wall and skillfully engineered his exit from public life , making sure he never be held accountable for his many criminal acts. He spent the last two decades of his life , writing books 📚 and being sort of a if not respectable elder statesman. He was very intelligent and knowledgeable about world affairs. 🌎 Unfortunately his time produced a lot of wasted opportunities.
