It's because they are coming from a totalitarian politico-religious oppressive regime. Their newfound Christianity offers an element of escape and freedom from it because it is different, a rejection of what oppressed them. I wonder though if they would have converted had they not had that envirinmental context. Most ex-Muslim stories have a background of oppression issues through family or cultures or govts. that are oppressively fundamentalist Muslim rather than normal Muslim.

Or about how his heart changed so drastically when he became a Christian that his wife didn’t recognize him? There are a lot of Christians who feel the same way based on their testimonies when they find the courage to convert to Islam.

@@TheExplorer-e1j Except that there is no problem for a christian to just abandon practicing his religion without converting to islam or any other religion, he just stops practicing and this is not possible for a muslim who has to keep practicing prayers ramadan, mosque etc.

@@jeangatti9384 Only if the Muslim has a family or society does not approve of or allow conversion. Death to apostasy laws are not in the Koran but scholar made and Muslims disagree about this. I have come across testimonies of Christians who had to keep their conversion to Islam secret too. Some were disowned by their Christian families, by their community and friends and work too. I don't think we should make generalisations. Plus Muslims do just leave, especially if in the west, or they leave to the west. It depends upon the culture and mentality of the people around them more than Islam itself that determines what their experience leaving Islam will turn out.

You can't be a Christian and faithless at the same time. Those people in Europe and US are mostly none believers, but with Christian parents or ancestry. For all practical purposes, most don't practice Christianity and therefore aren't Christians.
