Journal #7- Copy Reading When I was in elementary and in high school, I am really amazed with my schoolmates who were competing under the category of Copy Reading. Most of them were saying that Copy Reading is really difficult, which I agree because eveytime we are having a training before DSPC, they are the ones who were isolating themselves whenever they reviewing different symbols, which I am honestly curious about. On that time, what I only know about Copy Reading is that, it is an activity where the copy readers are looking for errors or mistakes in an article and they need to use symbols in order to do it. But, I am not really knowledgeable on what symbols are those and its usage. But with today's discussion, I am able to know that detailed purpose of copy reading and its importance. Where in, it is usually being done before the lay-outing of the articles. So, in copy reading there must be a detailed revision of the article in order to produce an almost perfect one. In which, every punctuation, spelling, words, technicalities and even the legality of the article itself must be grealty observed. Aside from that, I also learned the different symbols that are being used in copy reading with its corresponding usage. Personally, I am really excited on this part, because ever since I never tried to do copy reading. So all in all, copy reading is really an important part in news paper writing. Where in, as an aspiring journalist or even as a student, this is an important matter that we need to learn in able to ensure the complete correctness and appropriateness of the articles that we are dealing with.

Thus,it is also a vital role because it does not only check on the grammar, spelling and punctuation of an article. Copy readers also check on the technical aspects as well,such as fonts,numerals and hyphenation. It also checks for the "legal liability" and for factually incorrect information. I have also learned that there is a huge difference between copy reading and proofreading. All this time, I thought checking for grammatical errors, spelling and such is always called proofreading but turns out it is done after the page make up and when the paper is ready for printing.In addition, I've also learned the importance of copy reading marks in organizing,revising and correcting the whole paper. I have realized that it is the first major step in finalizing a successful newsletter. Although I was a part of journalism team before, I never got the chance to learn how to copy read or even what it is about,but as I listen to the discussion I've learned it's importance and that to be a copy reader,one must have a keen eye.

Journal no. 7 COPYREADING Today have been comprehensive because of the ever detailed discussion of Sir Batch about copy reading where it is important to do so in order to eliminate errors when it comes to writing especially if it’s an academic work and in this case, a publication article. It is noteworthy that there is a difference between a copy reading and a proofreading which I have no idea that there is indeed for the longest time. I have learned that copy reading is checking the work for any unwanted structures in general before it goes to the page make up and after it, comes proofreading and then finally, it goes to printing. Also, I learned that there are numerous tasks done by a copy editor to ensure the quality and legality of the works or articles. We were then presented and taught about the various symbols with the corresponding functions that are used in editing an article so that it would come off clean and ready for other steps before it is printed. At first, it was overwhelming because there are quite a number of symbols presented but knowing that Sir Batch has a clear and competent command of the English language, it becomes easy to understand the functions of the editing symbols. Nonetheless, these symbols in editing are very essential especially in our field of specialization not to mention the tips that Sir Batch shared about the words that we commonly commit mistakes. All in all, this lesson is very informative and useful as we are always on the endeavor of developing our language skills knowing that the English language is very tricky in so many ways. Hopefully, I can remember all of this whenever a need for editing works arises. Thank you Sir.

Before the copies are prepared for page makeup, they are copyread. Proofreading takes place after the page makeup, which is the process of preparing the newspaper or magazine for printing. I learned about the various symbols in copy reading and how to use them not only in an article but also in one's text, which was the main focus of the discussion. I also learned how to write numbers in a text, how to use symbols with descriptions that I can use in other written outputs like analysis, and most importantly, I realized that my knowledge of punctuation and abbreviations has expanded. In general, copy reading is an important part of writing an article, as well as other types of writing. Not only copy editors, but everyone can learn how to edit or copyread their own work. Mauricio, Catherine L. BSE - ENGLISH III Aside from the lesson in feature writing, this is the second one that is familiar with me already. As when I was in highschool, I used to use this symbol in correcting my essays as well as the essays of my classmates, we called it 'Peer checking' and the following symbols presented here is really a great help for me to check not only my work faster and easier but also the works of my classmates as even if I am so grateful for them in trusting me with their essays, with our different and many activities it is still hard and somehow pressuring especially with regards of the time. But all in all, this lesson makes me missed my high school days so much making me wish again, that if it is only possible I would want to experience being one again. This lessons reminds me how this symbols sort of become my best friend. As I really enjoyed doing this and this lessons gives me more information about the work. Thus, as an English major, I personally think that copy reading and proof reading alike is very integral for us as it involves for example the spellings, sentence structures, and capitalizations.

Checking facts included in the newspaper must be check if there are incorrect statements. This lesson really hook my interest. I was amazed how copyreading is done through the use of the mentioned symbols. Of course, these symbols are important to note especially if you are a copyeditor. Being a cooyeditor is not a joke because your work is crucial to give an error free news and information to all readers. As a student, this will help me a lot in rechecking and reviewing my works before submit it. De Leon, Miles L. BSE-English III Today we discussed about the last topic in journalism which is about copy reading. First, copy reading is defined as the process of checking for mistakes, errors, inconsistencies and repetition of an article. It was differentiated from proofreading. Proof reading is done after an initial draft was printed. While copy reading is done before the copies are prepared for page make up. The different copy reading remarks was also introduced to us. I was really enamored with the correction one can do in writing. I am delighted with how a certain word or words can be omitted without actually deleting it in copy reading. This gave me a quick flashback when my mother is boasting that she won several awards in journalism way back when she is still studying. This is the time when I mentioned that I passed the application process in our publication. I thought I can finally give myself a lift following a sorrowful defeat when I failed my first journalism attempt in senior high school. I got a dose of my own medicine this time. But what makes it interesting to me is that writers believe that the true writing comes from re-writing. And the topics discussed in this session is indeed helpful.
Bondoc, Glydel P. BSE English III A copyeditor checks for factually incorrect statements-do cross-checks and verify the statements. In this lesson, this responsibility was imprinted on my mind. I've learned a lot about the process of copy reading, pointers in copy reading, the difference between copy reading and proofreading, what a copy editor does, proper use of punctuation marks, and additional reminders in copy reading. This is an interesting lesson for me because we can always apply it in our writings. Now that we are more aware of the proper use of punctuation marks and pointers (such as 1-9 is written in words and 10 above is written in figures, also style guide in spelling is used for consistency, etc.), our written works will be better and straightforward. Moreover, copy editors check the materials (articles, texts, captions, etc.) used in the newspaper; checking for mistakes, inconsistencies, and repetition. My favorite part is copyreading marks, back when I was in elementary, my friend used to copyread, he's our school representative for DSPC. I'm fascinated by the symbols and my favorite is the ‘delete an element’ symbol. Proofreading is done after the page makeup. Meaning, it's already revised. While copyreading is done by section editors before doing the page makeup (execution of that layout). This process is the “meticulous” revision. Furthermore, additional reminders are to check for redundancies, delete editorializing words/ phrases, and to check for joined or disjoined words. Less to no error in the newspaper is our goal why we do copy reading.
April 7, 2021 - Copy reading I've been a copy reader for 3 years when I was in High School; making me miss those times because of this discussion. As we go beyond the world of copy reading, I've been reminded of its nature, essence, symbols and some pointers. Copy refers to materials used in newspapers or magazines such as the text or articles; thus, copy reading literally means reading the copy/ texts. It refers to the process of for mistakes, inconsistencies and repetitions. At first, I thought this was just the same with proofreading, however I've learned that they actually different from one another. Copy reading is the process of editing before putting the article into a page makeup which will be done by the section editors, while proofreading is done after the page makeup to prepare newspaper/ magazine for printing. Copy editors do check for and correct errors (1) in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation; (2) technical consistencies in spelling, capitalization, font usage, numerals and hyphenation; (3) continuity errors and make sure that all loose ends are tied; (4) actually incorrect statements; (5) potential legal liability - they verify if articles are not libellous; and (6) inconsistency within the story. All of the symbols are still instilled to me, since I continously practice these symbols when I commit errors in writing notes or any paper. Moreover, I can also remember the pointers that we're mentioned such as spelling out the numbers 1-9, looking for misspelled word following American English, capitalization of first word, spelling out abbreviated words and acronyms, indention, proper punctuation marks such as periods, commas, semi-colons, colons, quotation marks and apostrophes. There should also be eyes for jumbled letters, words and paragraphs; joined and disjointed words; omit editorializing words or phrase; redundancies and the use a symbol to indicate whether the article ends in one page or there's more.

There was also a time when I desperately wanted to join but couldn't because there was an allotted spot for those who wanted to join. Thus, I preferred feature writing over it. I'm glad I chose feature writing over copyreading because having a glimpse of what a copyreader does made me realize that it is extremely difficult. In this discussion, I learned that "copy" refers to materials used in newspapers or magazines, such as the text or articles; thus, "copy reading" literally means reading the copy/text. It also refers to the process of identifying mistakes, inconsistencies, and repetitions. This is the process of editing a story before it is published, spanning correcting the tiniest grammar errors and fixing big-picture flaws such as factual inconsistencies and libelous statements. The Copyreader - is a very important person on the newspaper job, etc. He/She corrects grammatical errors, errors in style, and typographical errors. He/She keeps out damaging statements or derogatory statements - those are libelous and harmful to anyone’s reputation. The copy reader also writes the headlines. It has been said that a good copyreader must posses certain qualities. He or she must have the eye of an eagle and the touch of a butterfly. The duties of copy reader are: Straighten out ungrammatical constructions, shorten sentences and tighten paragraphs, see that the paper’s style requirements are strictly followed, check names, addresses, titles, designations, identifications, figures, etc, rewrite the story completely if its poorly written. As a student, I see the importance of copy reading not just in newspaper but also in my path as aspiring educator. It is very important to double check everything, to review first before doing anything because once it is final, it can be hardly fixed. Also, in copy reading, I think of it as "think before you click" because for instance that something has been mistakenly announce can cause big damage not just to the writer alone but to the whole newspaper organization.
Entry no. 7 Copyreading I have always wondered what a copy reading is about. I have had a freelance gig where I was tasked to copyread several articles. I did some and I was happy about the results. However, the client was not happy about it. I asked myself. “I did the job correctly. What was wrong?” Looking back at that moment, I now know what seems to be the problem. I have a knowledge of basic copyreading. But that ‘basic’ knowledge that I had was very minimal from what are the things that was discussed here. I have learned that copyeditor has a huge responsibility about the articles that will be published in a newspaper. More so, copy reading can also be used not just in newspapers but also in checking papers for essays, research, as teacher soon. I learned today that copy reading is way different than proofreading. I was once a proofreader before, and I have learned several tricks on how to make work easier to be done. Copy reading, on the other hand, requires a thorough examination of words and punctuations in an article. A copy reader requires to be meticulous in the capitalization, spelling, punctuations, and the format of an article. “Why do we need copy reader anyway? If the writer has just written the article correctly, then there is no need to copy read, right?” True. However, in some instances that a writer fails (or forgets) these small details, the copy reader takes the job. They must ensure that proper guidelines in writing are being followed. These are corrections that the reader may have not notice if not corrected but will give a positive impact on a reader’s reading experience. Finally, copy reading is not just about correcting mistakes in spelling, punctuations, capitalizations, and paragraph format. BSE ENGLISH III Learning Bin 6 - Copy Reading Copy reading, though it is known to be the most basic type of editing, it is crucially significant in a newspaper or any sort of writing. As I learnt what and how to apply these various copy reading markings or symbols, I realized that without this approach of checking a text piece, it could turn out to be something to be critiqued simply for being read incorrectly in terms of punctuation, syntax, and/or structure. Before moving on to the next level, which is makeup, it is necessary to copy and read articles. It gives the impression that an article is free of flaws and/or errors, clear and concise, and, of course, compressible. Reading a well-written article adds to the appeal of the newspaper.

I found this lesson more interesting and informative to know, it cause me to become more aware on my writings and spellings as well grammars. We have to realize that the copyreading to meticulously find errors and review the paper of the writer before it can be release and publicize. CORONADO, HERJAN BSE-ENGLISH III I've learned that numbers from 1 - 9 must be written in words while the numbers 10 and above must be written in figures. However, of course, there are still exceptions to this rule and it was also mentioned in the discussion above. In addition, American English must be used, not British English. If a certain word has more than one accepted spelling, the shortest one should be used. I kinda find it funny when I saw the symbol used for inserting letters/words because I've been always using it if I forgot something to insert in my written text without even knowing that it's actually one of the symbols used in copy reading. And, I also wonder if I learned that in school during Highschool or what, I can't really remember. Anyway, other than that, I've realized that copy reading is indeed important before publishing a newspaper. Copy reader/editor ensures that the manuscripts or articles are accurate and well-written, checking for the grammar, spelling, punctuation marks, syntax, capitalization, etc. Performing copy reading helps the newspaper to bring accurate information to the reader and saves the newspaper from criticism. The discussion went good but the most challenging part for me right now in copy reading was memorizing all the symbols that can be used and of course, being able to notice mistakes and errors in every piece of writing.
Journal #7 Topic: Copyreading Since elementary, I am a fan of writing, especially essays and poem. This hobby pushed me to joined journalism when I was in highschool for only one year, because I transferred here in Antipolo. Honestly, I used to heard the term "proofreading" which I thought, copyreading was the same as proofreading. Today, we discussed about Copyreading, wherein I discovered how vital it was to apply in our school publication and of course, to our articles. Right at this moment, I was also enlightened and things were clarified between these two terms. Copyreading is done before the copies are prepared for page makeup. While proofreading is done after the page makeup, in which, the newspaper or magazine is being prepared for printing. Adhering such, we also tackled the different symbols used in Copyreading. So, why do we need to copyread articles? It is because we can't avoid commiting grammatical mistakes whenever we write. We also used to overlooked unnecessary punctuations, redundant words or the inconsistency of our articles. That's why, copy editors, used some symbols in editing the articles, and I can say, that some of these symbols weren't new to me because my former English and research adviser gave me a book about Campus Journalism for beginners. It was a good experience to deepen and refresh my knowledge about this lesson because I believed, that editing using these symbols are applicable in other areas of writing, and as an English major, it would really help me in crafting my masterpieces in a well-organized and well-written output. This material provided the means of correcting papers. Primarily, copyreading and proofreading are distinct to each other. When we say copyreading it is done before page makeup while the proofreading is done after the page makeup. Copy reading is facilitated by the section editors ,these include the members of the editorial board so it suggests that this kind of job is not that easy. Newspaper as one of the trusted news providers needs to be properly crafted and detailed. For your paper to look reliable, writers and as well as copyeditors should be knowledgeable in crafting every part of the text, and it includes the grammar of the content, proper use of punctuation, spelling, and on how words were properly arranged to its place. There should be no errors and mistake visible to the newspaper because if so, your reader would think that what you have written is also full of errors. Therefor copyeditor must be knowledgeable enough when it comes to sentence structure and writing. Moreover, checking every bit of paper is an important part to secure that what is written are factual, and it might save the organization from legal consequences if they served untrue information. Copyreading isn't actually new to me since I have already experienced joining a competition regarding this in journalism when I was in sixth grade. So, when we say copyreading it is a process done before we put the copies in a page makeup or simply called as editing. In editing a copy of a newspaper, we have what we called section editors. Section editors are the one responsible in editing a certain section in a newsletter before it was prepared for a page makeup. We must also remember that copyreading is not similar to proofreading; copyreading is done before the copies was put in a page makeup while, proofreading is done after the edited copies are put on a page makeup. In editing or copyreading, there are symbols that we used in correcting the errors or mistakes, this symbols are called copyreading marks. Every symbols/marks has certain indications when we used it in editing our news entries. In my understanding of the lesson, copyreading is a very crucial work. It is the time where we criticize the copies before we put it in a page makeup, that's why it is important that we really check it correctly, from grammar, spellings, capitalization of words, and etc. so that when it was put into the page layout everything that follows will go smoothly. There are important appropriate marks and symbols we should consider in order to copyread a certain article before doing a revision. I also learned that we need to read over and over again before we could come to a best revision of our article. It is important that we are familiar with the grammar as well as proper punctuation, capitalization and so on in order for us to have a proper copyreading. In my experience,as for me, I found difficult to look for my own mistakes in writing somehow, when I tend to read it over a period of time, there I will realized my grammatical errors. So, copy reading is very important in order to have a proper and best writing output especially in article writing. Odtohan, Sanishane C. BSE-English lll Out of all those categories in Journalism, copyreading is the most difficult to study for me. Seeing all those symbols and markings, and requiring to memorize or master them makes me really find it hard to do so. When I am having my training in editorial writing, one of my co-journalist was doing her copyreading article. As I watched her, I am really amazed by how intricate her article is. She is meticulously looking for the errors in the sheets that she was holding, and when I asked her if it is difficult to do, she just simply says that in doing copy reading, as much as possible it should be errorless. With her response, the idea strengthens in my mind that copyreading is hard to deal with. But now, as I watched this video lecture, I could see now the beauty of copyreading. I got to learn the different symbols and markings of copy reading, the same as the importance of it in journalism. With that, we could be able to say that, in the parameter of journalism, there is no such thing as easy to do and hard to do. Every article can be learned, every marking too. All we have to do is to study more and learned to appreciate the beauty of writing.

Before the copies are prepared for page markup, they are copyread. Whereas, proofreading occurs following the page markup process, which prepares the newspaper or magazine for printing. I used to think that both checking and proofreading were referred to as proofreading. I've never heard of the word "copyreading." I can now confidently notify others of which is which. The copyreading technique was also covered in this module. We found it useful because the symbols below can be used to make newspaper. Apart from that, various copyreading tips in the program are essential because I occasionally use incorrect punctuation and capitalization. This module is handy in a variety of writing situations. I can use it to examine the work of my future students or to create a written work that I will require in the future.

BSE-ENGLISH III Having no experience in journalism or from being a part of a school publication, the terms, practices and activities we had discussed sounds not so familiar with me. However, it made me see the significance of appreciating news writing and writing news in a right way. I have learned that writing news, including the interviews, gathering of data, editting, copyreading and proofreading, was a very intricate task to do. It should be factual, straight-to-the-point and grammatically and orthographically correct. That’s what a copyreader has to do. They have to check the punctuations, grammar, level of factuality, spacing, paragraphs and even the spelling. A punctuation mark means a lot because the intended meaning or message of the author may be altered if there is an incorrect use of punctuation marks or if there are any misspelled words. I have also learned the difference between copyreading and proofreading wherein the first one is a process done before the copies are prepared for page make-up and the latter is a process done after the page make-up. The importance of copyreading lies in the budget of time being given to the news writers, editors and lay-out artist. To spend lesser time in writing a truthful and comprehensible, one should be careful of the things to be done in copyreading.
Mauricio, Christine BSE ENGLISH III This last video material talks about the how to's of copy reading, and just like the fourth video on this playlist, this is also somewhat familiar to me already because back when I am on Dela Paz National High School, one of our English teachers used to use the symbols or the copyreading marks also shown on this lesson and also makes us practice using it by letting us check each other paper works. But I'll be honest that some of it have been forgotten by my mind already because it's been awhile since I have used it or practiced it by checking papers on-hand. So discussing it again, made me remember the different symbol and its meaning. It makes me actually want to check papers again and to not just use computer screen and keyboards. Its difference to proofreading was also included in the discussion, and it enlightened me that copyreading is done before the page makeup while proofreading is after the page make up, or when it is already prepared for printing. Overall, from the very first video discussion down to this very last, I can say that I have gained a lot of terms and knowledge involve in campus journalism that I do not know and even never heard of before that will surely be of great help to the upcoming activities we will take under this very informative subject.

A wrong spelled word for a headline might be more viral than the news content itself. We don't want to be famous for an inappropriate reason. Unfortunately, many writers would admit they cannot escape these situations, and most writers cannot ignore the mishaps in writing contents for their articles. That is why Copyreading is a very important thing to do in every section of a newspaper. I've learned ever since that a single punctuation can change the meaning of a thought and Copyreading prevents readers from that. I've learned that copyreading is more than the corrections and revisions but more of polishing and perfecting each sentences for it to reach readers in an effective manner. BSE-ENGLISH III Module 7 As I watched the video discussion, I recall some part of the lesson which we already tackled before in high school days however, we did not actually do copy reading so, I guess it will be hard for me. In this module, we tackled the definition of copy reading which is defined as the process of checking for mistakes, inconsistencies and repitition. I discover the difference of copy reading and proofreading, copy reading happens before the copies are prepared for page makeup while proofreading is done after page makeup. I learned to identify what are the details we need to give attention such as the punctuation, spelling, grammar, or the technical aspects. We also tackled the most helpful in copy reading which is the copy reading marks. It has symbols provided that can help the copy editors to make copy reading more easier and every symbols has meaning or instruction. There are also pointers in copy reading that reminds me of the technicalities that we should be aware of. I`ve learned that Copyreading was like a checkpoint in which an essay or an article is thoroughly checked and reviewed by the copy reader. I've also learned how important it to be meticulous and observant for errors. in the stage of copyreading, the paper is polished and all unnecessary parts are removed to emphasize the "Important contents" of the article. Sir batch also introduced the different symbols used to correct and to suggest changes to the whole betterment of the article. Copy reading does not only offers grammar corrections and such but rather it also avoids the development of wrong/incorrect information being spread to the readers. in the video, I was also introduced to proofreading which is eventually done after the copy reading. It is done before the copies are prepared for page makeup. Conversely, Proofreading is done after the page makeup, in which, the newspaper or magazine is being prepared for printing. As the discussion continues, the roles and duties of a copy editor are introduced and has been well explained. A copy editor Checks for corrects, errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation (very detailed, as much as possible, no errors), Checks for technical consistency in spelling, capitalization, font usage, numerals, hyphenation, Checks for continuity errors and makes sure that all loose are tied, Checks for factually incorrect statements, and many more. Copyreading is defined as the process of organizing, correcting, and selecting the quality and type of news. This is a critical step that must be completed before the copies are ready for page composition. Furthermore, proofreading and copyreading are distinct since copyreading occurs before the document is submitted to the layout designer, whereas proofreading occurs after the page makeup. I'm very glad that now I know how to copyread using the proper symbols. I have learned that there are symbols to for indention, merging paragraph, capitalization, small letter, abbreviation, spelling out, transposing letters or words, inserting letter/word, deleting letter/word, changing letter/word, insert period, comma, apostrophe, quotation marks, hyphen, space, connecting words but with space, closing up letter/word, restore and ending the paragraph. Furthermore, I have learned about roles of copyeditor and the differences between copyreader and proofreader. Copyeditor plays important role like writers. These include checking for technical inconsistency, checking for continuity error, checking for the factuality of details, checking for legal liability, and checking for the flow of the ideas and thought. Lastly, I am enlightened of the difference of copyreading and proofreading. The first one is performed before the copies or the articles and photographs are prepared for page make up. In writing an article, there's always an instance to commit writing mistakes which might affect the article's accuracy and the entire news paper organization. In this lesson, I've learned that copyreading is a term that describes a process of checking for mistakes, inconsistencies, and repetition. A copy editor checks for and correct errors in terms of grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, checks for incorrect statements, ensures that the manuscript/article doesn't libel others, and checks for any inconsistencies. I've also understand that there are different symbols used in copyreading. Each of these symbols indicates specific use. Some of those symbols are for paragraph indention, capitalization, abbreviation, spellings, insertion and deletion of letters, spacing, quotation marks, and so on and so forth. These symbols must be mastered by the copy reader/editor as this will give an ease in correcting the article in any forms of mistakes. Other than that, I've also learned that the numbers 1 - 9 must be written in words while the numbers 10 and above must be written in figures. However, there are still exceptions in this rule. In addition, American English must be used, not British English. If a certain word has more than one accepted spelling, the shortest one should be used. These are what I have acquired from the discussion aside from the rules I have already knew. Copyreading is vital in a newspaper organization as this helps the newspaper to bring accurate information to the readers. In journalism and publishing it's extremely important, but it's also a vital step for college and university assignments like researches. Despite this assurance, it is tragic that our educators see copyreading as archaic in the first place. Digital tools still have an impossibly long way to go before they can replace the thoughtful decision-making of an educated copyeditor or headline writer. When teacher or professor gives me a mark for writing style, copyreading save me towards proofreading my article and essays. Some profs take marks off for every spelling and grammar mistake, while others reward students who hand in papers with proper syntax and word usage. Even if my professor doesn’t take marks off for spelling and grammar mistakes, which is unlikely, having a perfectly edited paper will make a better impression and earn you a higher grade. As I remember, reaeaech shows that spelling and grammar mistakes have a huge effect on a reader and their impression of the writer’s ability. As a writer, I strongly believe thay stories that were properly edited were easier to follow and assumed to be of a higher value. Watching this video lecture makes me recall its proper use for the overall enhancement of the article. Copy readers play a crucial role in the technicalities of journalism. Aside from extensive use of grammar, errors, and incorrect statements, they are also taking a path to limit the mistakes before putting the writing in layout designing. That's why they must see things thoroughly before the article is arranged along with the visual elements. Sir Batch has said that if one word is added in the paper, but the layout is already polished, it will create a domino effect in the subsequent columns. Copy readers have to make sure that the ideas are organized and that every word matters. In copy editing or not, having someone to read or critique our work is also essential in writing. I'm sure there are many processes to be considered because someone else will be reading our work, but we have to keep in mind that it will enhance our work to a new level. Their feedback is already a massive help in adding something to our writing, and it will be a plus if they complement our work. Moreover, it will also help us reach a level of professionalism because we may never know if we have said something in statements beyond the ethics of campus journalism. It is important to correct a passage, especially in the news to avoid misunderstanding or disclosure of information mainly as it will be examined through many people daily. This is different from proofreading due to the fact there are signs used to show a change made. An editor or copyeditor makes careful corrections of words or phrases from the correct spelling, size, and style of the letters, as well as the correct alignment of numbers in the news if something is noted. I have learned that copy reading and proof reading differ from each other it is stated that copy reading is done before the copies are prepared for page make up meanwhile proof reading is done after the page make up yet the two still work accordingly because one mistakes in the relay of information may lead to a serious situation when the person concerned would take it into a more serious action that is why the role of a copy editor isn't that easy as what we think of simply putting marks in every words or paragraph they viewed as inappropriate or wrong. Moreover in copy reading i was amazed by the existence of those different symbols, only if i know it before it could be a great help whenever our research teachers give us the copy of our study to revise full of pure x marks. We should have been conscious/knowledgeable enough in figuring what went wrong with every bits of words written and how to correct or put a revisions. Going back to the topic, every symbols that is being written in a material corresponds meaning which is important and convenient in figuring out what makes it wrong and what to change like for example in transposing words or sentences the missing marks and necessary punctuations etc. To sum it up, this discussion indeed enlightened me with those things more especially because i see it to be an important matter in my field of specialization.

JOURNAL NO. 7 TOPIC: Copyreading DATE: April 7, 2021 This day, we have tackled Copyreading as part of the 'filtering' process before publishing a news. As an English major student, I know I can use this lesson as my reference for future use like research and teaching grammar that's why I really paid attention to it and I enjoyed the discussion a lot. Our professor really delivered the topic effectively in a way that beginners in newswriting like us would understand. At first, our professor taught us what is meant by copyreading and he said that it is the process of checking for mistakes, inconsistencies, and repetition. He also differentiated copyreading from proofreading, which I personally thought as similar, but are actually completely different. He emphasized to us that copyreading is done before the copies are prepared for page makeup while proofreading is done after the makeup, in which, the newspaper is being prepared for printing. Additionally, he enumerated the tasks of a copyeditor which includes correcting errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, and other technical checkings, including the article's potential legal liability. As the main focus of the topic, I've learned the different symbols in copyreading and in how they should use in a text. I learned how I should write numbers in an article, the use of the symbols with corresponding description to which I can use in other written outputs such as research, and most importantly, I realized that my knowledge on punctuations and abbreviations has widen. I've also realized that journalism is not a so-so writing, it requires a cautious effort in producing grammatically appropriate text as it affects one's publication's reputation. In general, I realized that I will really use my background knowledge in grammar through copyreading. I enjoyed and appreciated the lesson so much.

BSE - ENGLISH III Establishing and attaining a specific goal in life requires a lot of factors and aspects to consider, and a person shall continuously work, check, plan, and reflect on such factors to focus. On the other hand, journalism follows specific guidelines and rules to ensure that the news or information is not prejudiced, wrong, or unethical. So the preparation, creation, and finalization of the newspaper itself are crucial, and writers shall continuously check and revise the manuscript for any issues, therefore, copyreading and proofreading are both significant tasks that the publishing company and all of its writers shall consider. As stated in the discussion, copy reading involves checking the mistakes, inconsistencies, and repetitive statements, and it is also done before the copies are prepared for their page make-up. Copy reading includes checking the technical consistency and the continuity errors, checking if there are factually incorrect statements, then verifying if there are potential legal liabilities. It also involves the correct use of syllabication, the rules in capitalization and punctuations, and even the use of titles for every specific manuscript. On the other hand, proofreading refers to checking the errors after their page make-up. And this is considered the final step before the newspaper is printed and published. Moreover, copyeditors and proofreaders also utilize specific symbols in checking the errors and finalizing the manuscript. As for the mentioned symbols, when I was in senior high school, I was curious about how am I supposed to use such symbols in correcting or revising my papers, so I printed them out and became familiar with a few symbols to use. And as I experienced being a part of the journalism club in high school, I am also amazed at how copywriters managed to memorize all symbols and utilize them in correcting grammatical errors, flaws, factual inconsistencies, or libelous statements. On the other hand, I believe all writers, regardless of the category or type of manuscripts they craft shall be keen on rereading, checking, copyreading, and proofreading it.
