I couldn't agree more. Too many of them move to digital or a rocker style buttons and it takes too much focus to get to a proper volume selection. Old school knob for the quick turn up. If it aint broke, don't try to fix it.
I haven't searched too much but I did see the pioneer single din 10.1" unit and I like this Kenwood unit better. For starters it has DAB+ for Australia and it has a volume knob. If you don't have steering wheel controls, changing volume levels is a real pain in the arse with other methods. That's a winner. The tough screen seems to be better as in more responsive than the Pioneer as well. That's my initial impression but obviously I as an audio person I would need to see some more specs and view it in person.
I have this deck and wish it had track forward and reverse buttons. Besides volume those are the most important. I don’t have steering wheel controls in my classic car.
On a lot it will but it’s adjustable up and down in and out and angles so just make the best of it if you want a large screen good news is you don’t have to :)
Did you ever do a video of the idata link and how to get all the car info on the screen? I just put this unit into my hilux and would love to know more
hey mate, have you made a follow up video for the Kenwood head unit yet, showing all the extra features. I've got a 2020 HiAce and looking at fitting this unit.
Hi @CarbonCarSystem . How do I access the hidden customization menu for this model ? The double and single tapping on the standby page doesn't seems to work. Hope you can help
Can you just import the Maestro ADS-MRR + Suburu Harness or does it have to be a local unit so it can be flashed? Every advertisement mentions it but there doesn't appear to be a way to get the Maestro's in Aus.
Hi i have a 2015 VW multi van, can you have both Visual parking sensors and reversing camera, i have been told VW does not allow to have both visual, So audio Parking Sensors and Visual Reversing Camera , is this correct or what can be done to make it work.
Got a question about the new dnx997xr it has built in nav it has inrix for traffic and weather . My question is inrix has not been working since March ? Do you know if it’s back up and working agin ?
Does anyone know if this is the same as the flagship Kenwood Excelon Reference DMX 1057XR? Is it just the UK version or are there differences in quality/internals?
@Rob Roy The off brand China units? Yes I just returned another. They are junk. Kenwood is one of the best head units made. This particular one might not look appealing but the sound is great, build quality is great as well. Every Kenwood I have ever had is almost zero distortion at full tilt. Tell me an off name China unit that will beat this Kenwood at anything. I mean I don't buy a head unit to play Xbox on but to each there own. Also DSP sucks on the no name units. Better off getting a real DSP as far as obd2 scanner I'm not sure what dongle your using may be Elm but other then thinkdiag none of the higher end units WiFi dongles do it. The cheap ob2 code readers like elm can do it but that's all those are Capable of doing reading increasing codes. Better off getting a real diagnostic tool. I'm not hating just saying I been through a few of them over the last year or so all pretty much trash when it comes down to it. If it works for you great.
Pardon my ignorance, as I've never had a head unit like this before, but how would you use the usb or hdmi hook ups if they are in the back of the unit?
That extra wide bezel looms to be just too much. The depth of the floating screen also appears to be toooo much it seems to be 3 or more inches off the surface.
Those cheaper android devices might have better display and gui but they can't give the sound quality and cinnectivity to amps and speakers lile this head unit.
Is there a way to utilize, or modify to fit a ball head to be able to adjust left and right and even to turn vertical if needed? Would be nice to have vertical screen rotation
Interface needs to be more neutral and clean, like tesla. 17:27 looks good though, its easily accessible. Price should drop to 500usd. Otherwise I think this is the best one in the market today! Having analog volume knob is an absolute must on these, I really like the design. Big borders can always be changed but isn't a deal breaker.
Bought new "used" truck last week. I took all my stereo friom my old sold truck and brought new truck to shop. We installed all my prior 12s, amps, etc and then, the Kenwood. Great system. I love the giant screen. I HATE the fact that the Wifi mirroring feature is not explained ANYWHERE. Not Kenwood, not youtube, not troubleshooting, not anytwhere. The directions are vague. The directions on Kenwood is absolute trash and a mere few sentences. LITERALLY. I HATE that. The ONLY way I can work it is by using Samsung Dex to connect. If it wasn't for that, the Mirror app is TRASH AND USELESS. I have yet to see someone actually use it.
Android units are cool and well priced if you're looking for a low budget tablet like experience, however cheap hardware, outdated software, and poor audio quality put it LEAGUES behind any big brand unit. I'm cheap too, just installed an old ipad mini with a $75 Kenwood HU behind it. Audio quality is night and day vs an Android unit.
@@Yz85rider338 I'm a big fan of Kenwood, had them in my cars dating back to the 90s with a 6 stack CD in the boot. Do these units have stand along GPS, so you're not reliant on Apples CarPlay and cell service? This unit retails for around $1800, Android ones can be hard for 1/3rd the price and the one I got comes complete with the dash panel so it slots right in for a factory look. I don't need high end audio and this one has seen 2 interstate road trips using the GPS to guide me around 19k km across AU including some very remote HWYs.
Yea it’s gonna be a no for me .... knob sucks, not a single din option and I didn’t even have to go 4 min into the video for me to go and get the pioneer 10.1 lol .... maybe next time Kenwood...
I don't like how far the radio sits in front of the dash. would love to have this if I could get it to sit flush inside my Honda Ridgeline dash. Can it be adjusted to push it back towards the dash by about 2"
Ive got an Android 10.2inch from Sygav (chinese comp) and the looks are 100 times better then this! Mine is built into the dash, has a custom fascia that comes with it factory. Id say this one would have a few more features and better sound and screen quality , but im very happy still. Id think Kenwood would make a much nicer looking device. This looks like one of the first android tablets..
I said the same thing. It has about almost an inch of bezel around it. This is 2020, screens should be no more than centimeter from the edge and the screen in some sort of corning gorilla glass. Maybe the 2022 revised version will correct that issue.
Well Kenwood is a audio company at heart and not a display company. You buy Kenwood for audio quality. I have owned high end Alpines, Sony, JVC, Pioneer and Kenwood car stereos and kenwood makes the best for audio quality. Alpine stereos use to be the best but for some reason they been shitty lately.
2 years on and still waiting for that idatalink demonstration. Asking all around the place and almost no one can offer any info, looks like half the features that are greyed out will be permenantly locked out.
Awesome video. Very excited about this. Thanks for posting the dimensions on your website as well. It is surprising how much room Kenwood wasted with the black bezel.
Great freakn review! I bought the thing solely on ur review alone thanx! Im in the states but nonetheless it was ur video that made me pull the trigger!
Does anyone know how far the screen comes down past the double din opening at its highest setting adjustment? Don't want to buy it to find out it hits my air con knobs below. I've got about 20-25mm of room below the opening. Thanks in advance.
Maestro is KING. If you car supports it, you would be doing it wrong to not use maestro over any other data interface company. Sorry, pac, metra, crux, navtv, ect.... We don't quote anyone any other product but maestro if it's an option in there car. Glad to see Australia is getting it now.
A few questions: 1 - does is quick boot after the first boot like recent Sony units? eg, does it do a sleep mode and wake quicker the second time you start the car? If so, how quick? 2 - I noticed there's camera recording. Where does that record to and does it have some sort of incident button to capture an incident? Is it possible to use in "sentry mode" while parked? 3 - Will it boot into Apple Carplay if a phone is connected by USB? ( or an option to do this). I use Carplay 99% of the time and don't want to have to click an icon every time I get into the car. 4 - Can the boot warning screen be disabled? 5 - Can you customise the boot loading screen? Looks really good. Seriously considering it as alternative to Sony XAV-AX8000.
