Been jamming this song since 15yr I'm 31 now and I love this song so much I named daughter vela. And she's 5yr and jams this song right along with me... Long live metal
I forgot this song existed for some time, then remembered it existed years, couldn't find it, and then I suddenly looked at some pages I liked on Facebook when I was 14 or 15 THEN BANG. I found this band and this song.
This album was pure lightening in a bottle. AJ's riffs classical riffs, Nathan's colorful vocals, Brett's metalcore drumming, all coalesced into an album that sounds just as tight and focused now as it did 15 years ago.
It saddens me to think that maybe the only people capable of really appreciating what they've done with this album are other musicians. I've yet to find anything else like it.
Me(not a musician): *fully appreciates the music* Well, that was easy. Now quit trying to be deep commenting in public forums, it makes you look more basic than you already are.
Gosh, I remember staying the night at my grandmas house playing with my GI joes, up way too late and this came on for MTVs metal at midnight or whatever it was. It was instantly a favorite for me.
These guys were my first concert with my friends back in 07 or 08. I was about 2 feet away from AJ watching him play this shit as the closer, and I’m still in awe. Man, keep making music in whatever capacity. Your shit has literally saved my life through the years.
When I was 16 I went to go see Trivium and All That Remians play at the Orange Peel in Asheville NC. These guys opened for them I had no idea who they were. But believe me I knew who they were after they got done they completely stoled the show that night.I bought there CD the next and I've been a huge fan ever since.
God I wish these guys would come back the rock genre needs this now!!!! Years later I still play this band THE HUMAN ABSTRACT!!!!! THE WORLD NEEDS YOU GUYS BACK!!
I'll be 31 next month, the first time I heard this I Was probably 14, and truly believe this was one of the top core bands at that time; I'm still shattered that they broke up, and how things happened. Just wanted to say I was super influenced by your music, and I firmly believe you guys paved the way for Core. Underrated is an understatement, when ever someone asks me for an underrated band I ALWAYS say The Human Abstract and Protest the Hero because they both SO GOOD but never get the acknowledgement they deserved. Thank you for all you've done, and keeping a VERY disturbed teenager sane. Much love from Canada.
A story without a name A desert journey that we became Another test of our power overcoming on a black day Appalling how they're running for the honor like a campaign To rise against the leaders of a phony dead scene in a magazine I always figured there was something more [Chorus] Gone, so many friends and lovers So far, nothing to show in turn [Verse 2] They'll take it all back, all those empty words I'll show the dregs where all their slander has led If it takes my whole life, for all the tears that I have shed They'll take it back, I'm making a pact They'll take it back, I'm making a promise I'm eager to the task, exposing all who wear a mask [Bridge] It must be done Binds as one, through it all So pry, you won't be finding a faker Nor will an opportune moment arise [Chorus] Gone, so many friends and lovers So far, nothing to show in turn Gone, so many friends and lovers So far, nothing to show in turn Gone, so many friends and lovers So far, nothing to show in turn
Ive genuinely always hated metalcore and most things associated with the genre but i caught these guys opening up for someone else they were musically on point and had decent stage presence so i checked them out idk what it is about them whether it be the subject matter and overall theme or something else though im not entirely onboard with everything they've done but the have always been one of the very very very very few exceptions to the rule
Even owning the CD, really wish there was a non live, non cover, non 8-bit, HQ version of this song up. I end up showing this song to a lot of people who missed The Human Abstract in their earlier days, and it sucks having to fish out a copy that doesn't sound like the guitars are coming out of an electric soupcan. I miss bands writing albums with continuity and not just releasing 10 singles lol.
I have been looking for this song for years. I used to listen to it with my little brother all the time growing up before he passed away and haven't been able to find it since.
such a badass song. brings me back to good ole times before everything was about deathcore. don't get me wrong I love the brutal shit but honestly a lot of us forget about the softer stuff that got us into metal/rock whatever the genre. don't forget where you came from! musically speaking of course.
The first time I heard this or any human abstract song was live! It changed my life going to that show ! So many years later and it still makes me feel something different
Saw these dudes play to a room of 11 people and they put on one of the best sets I've ever seen. Fifteen years have passed since that night. I feel old.
I was a huge fan of The Black Dahlia Murder, As Blood Runs Black, All Shall Perish, etc. back then but this band I somehow missed. I hear about them for the first time in 2024
I still listen to this track, at least once a week. I have it as the third track in a playlist of my favorite metal (right after Desiderata, of course). It deserves a place in history, amazing art.
DANxTHExGUITARxMAN I might be wrong, Cause I dont really know much about music theory, but I'll take a stab at it and if you people have the right answer correct me please, but I think what they mean is, Parallel as in, a C Major Key to a C minor Key, same Key as in note but From major to minor or viceversa.
***** That's exactly right. Parallel is the oppisite key with the same note (CMaj -> Cm) and relative is the opposite scale with the same value/position on the circle of 5ths (CMaj -> Am)
Lol yeah it was the best it was a small venue and they were just casually playing in the parking lot before the show and sat with everyone during the show lol They were Amazing! I even got a guitar pick from the guitarist!
This is still one of the most melodical bands in the scene, even though they had a rather short career. I can´t help but feel that they wasted a shit ton of potential. I would listen to them 1000 times over dream theater or any other progressive metal band.
I saw them in concert and I remember them playing this song, everybody was playing air piano at the beginning and air guitar. They put on a awesome show too bad they aren't still making music.
@@chanceklippstein I would kill to watch them. Incredibly talented musicians. IMO The Human Abstract was an extremely unique band. I haven´t found something like them so far.
These guys were only a few short years ahead of their time. When Nocturne came out, nobody that i can think of was doing anything THIS fuckin good! I wish this wouldve come out today, just imagine. Still holds up very very well today all these years later
I just discovered this song on Music Choice Metal and I can’t stop listening to it. Especially the chorus. The guitars. The way the vocals are delivered on it. It’s fucking great.
