Obrigado lsabella. l am once again impressed with your superb taste and keen film knowledge. This is really quite the movie. Jan Sterling's singing was so much fun to enjoy. Love her in other memorable movies. Much appreciation for sharing the back stories, etc. A very nice value added touch. Yes, the cast was superb.

De Nada David. I'm impressed that you read the description, I'm never sure if anyone finds it useful, I am happy that you did. I only get to choose and present these films the best I can, for the taste and value I have to credit all the people who worked on them, but I'm happy you enjoyed it. Oh yes, the singing and musical talents of the performers was an important attraction in these films, but is largely ignored in newer films, I had not thought of it this way until reading your comment...it needs further investigation...

Well Done, Isabella! “The Human Jungle” offers us a hard-hitting look into the ugly world of police work with all the concomitant politics and struggles that affect those police officers who choose to tread a determined path upholding justice. It also provides us with a peek into the dirty world of pressmen scavenging for tit-bits to feed their appetite for the sensational. Gary Merrill (who I often thought was an underrated star) plays hard-boiled police captain, Danny Danforth, who will stop at nothing to serve the interests of justice in the concrete jungle comprising hardened criminal types making a mockery of the law. Such are his levels of devotion and his passion for what a police force ought to be, he compromises his domestic life and runs foul of his colleagues to pursue his single-minded determination enduring cynicism and ridicule. Danforth proceeds undaunted and unrelenting. The film is really a study in single-minded determination against all odds. This must surely rank among one of Merrill’s finest performances (in addition to “Another Man’s Poison", 1951, opposite his real-life wife at the time, the great Betty Davis) There are noteworthy supporting performances too, particularly by Jan Sterling, Chuck Connors (brilliant sportsman) and Claude Atkins (incidentally, I saw him not so long ago play a fanatically religious-minded priest in the 1960 critically acclaimed film “Inherit the Wind”). Here, he plays the classic hoodlum with consummate ease. Florenz Ames, as Leonard Ustick also caught my eye. His portrayal of the cool as ice boss of the crime syndicate has echoes of the brilliant Sam Jaffe in another classic “The Asphalt Jungle” (1954). What a pity that Ames was given pitifully few minutes of screen time. I would have loved to have seen him and Merrill together. Well done, Isabella. It’s almost a year since I’ve discovered your channel and I’m the richer for it. You have taught me to love and appreciate the humble picture.

Thank you Charlie, I'm always impressed that you take the time to watch the films I post. I always think they're quite a mixed bunch! In addition, I'm happy and grateful you take so much time to write your reviews, you know a lot more about many of the actors than I. Gary Merrill is perfectly cast here, and does a great job with his role, I agree he has all the gravity of a great actor. I treat the low-budget and high-budget films the same, maybe it's easier in hindsight, since I am not bombarded with marketing, they're all just films with a story to tell. Now, thinking about Gary Merrill, I realise I recognize him from The Time Tunnel TV Series 1966-1967!...

Agh, my apologies for taking so long to respond. I was sure you would find him! It's interesting, I'm happy he is not forgotten, thanks to you. I have been thinking, you could make a Than Wyenn playlist, adding films and things you find him in so that other people might find it, a historical memoir. You could use my content, and any other things you come across, and even make shorts from the parts where he appears, just an idea...🕵‍♀ Some people enjoyed the film, so it's all good, thank you.

@@isabellamars yes, I was thinking about it too, though I feel like I'm all alone in appreciating this actor. Still, definitely I would like to show somehow my gratitude for all the fun he gave me for past months.
