A lot of people were giving Echo 216 crap in this game, but seriously he survived for 6 months on the pelican trapped in space. How many people would that not mentally shatter. 6 months of at any moment he could be found and killed and essentially trapped with no way to escape and get home. Also 343 you gave us Echo 216 now don't do some stupid off screen death of him just to get him out of the story. We need to get him back to his family.
@supersasukemaniac
@supersasukemaniac 2 года назад
Also, add to that he isn't Military, so he doesn't have the same mental fortitude of the sailors/soldiers around him. So knowing that, the entire leadup to the reveal is an appropriate response.

I always just took his attitude in the beginning as a simple "the Banished are too powerful, I've been on my own for 6 months trying to survive and I want to go home". So the reveal that he wasn't even a soldier, just a civilian engineer in the wrong place at the wrong time made me appreciate him even more.

With all that he's seen and been through (and will continue to see and experience until he finally bites the dust, however much that hurts me to even think about), I'd say Chief will start to act less machine-like and more human to some degree, even if, of course, he'll still maintain his signature stoic, reserved, taciturn, and utterly unflinching/unwavering disposition no matter what. Especially with Cortana musing on who's really the machine between the two of them more than once, something of which still probably replays within the Chief's head. 0:39 incredible play of light, first, while the spartan suffers the light is red and bright indicating that there is something urgent to do, which is to free him. When he is released and the Spartan stops suffering, the light is neutral reflecting that theres no more urgency and the Master Chief is paying attention to what he has to say, the light on the Spartan's face makes it your center of attention, while the Master Chief remains in the shadow so that he does not distract you, when the spartan stops talking and dies the light turns to a cold blue indicating that Chief is assimilating the death of the spartan, this is reinforced accompanied by music and that he does not speak. And finally, the same red light that previously indicated urgency now serves to illuminate the background, it is important that the background is illuminated and not Chief because that way his anger and determination is better reflected.

Vengeance is not a good motivation for the Banished. In the books, their leader Atriox, specifically states how petty vengeance is as an emotion. The reason the Banished is a multi-species alliance (including Elites and humans in their forces) is because Atriox doesn't believe in vengeance against an entire species, it offers no reward for the pragmatic mercenaries that they're supposed to be. Atriox would know that not all of humanity is at fault. He would know that it was just the UNSC specifically that was irresponsible with Cortana. Speaking of, does Master Chief respect the Hunters, the Unggoy, the Brutes, the Sanghelei, the Jackals, and the Skirmishers as soldiers, the same way he does with Escharum? I think the moral of Halo infinite is about redemption. Chief’s journey to redeem himself after losing Cortana and being beaten by Atriox. Fernando’s journey to face up to what he did and do what’s best despite his fear. Escharum’s goal to finally die in a respectable way, to a valued enemy. Cortana, with her final act. Once and for all, realizing her mistakes and choosing to save Chief one last time. And finally, perhaps most importantly, 343’s redemption. They tried Halo with different formulas, made mistakes, made strides, but returned to what made them all fall in love with the franchise in the first place. A story of a green man, and blue lady, who fight impossible odds to give us all hope that things can be better.

The shear emotion Chief conveys with nothing but body language, he's at once more relatable and expressive than most other characters in any other game I've played and without even a glimpse of his face, and he's still a man of few words even if he is beginning to say more when he feels he should, I've always liked Chief since the old games, and I'm glad to see him start to grow and open up now

im gonna nerd out for a moment but thats why i like that scene so much, is that, 216 is sorta us, he sees all of the things chief did, from an outside perspective, chief is just this badass who doesnt talk much and always saves the day, what 216 (and alot of us but not everyone) missed, was the person under there, he was always human, from halo ce, even in the books, likely he was always this worried, always worried about whether or not he could save humanity, always human, just hiding it because thats what he was taught to do.
