I will be hurt if they don't get the cast back together but I'll watch it anyway if they don't because it's still PJ, Boyens and Serkis. It will bring me back to something close to the trilogy for sure. If they deage them well it will be the best, if they recast them well it will be okay, if they deage them badly it will be worse than a good recast, and if they recast them badly I might stop watching the movie without finishing it... But I'll still give it a try no matter what and I would expect someone commenting on this video to do the same unless they're just fans of Viggo hahaha

There's a game of it, which was fun. I wonder if we'd get to see that protagonist trio return and then have a boss fight against Agandaur that occur simultaneously with the Assault on the Black Gate, chronologically. Having a dragon ally would be nice, since that's sort of what we did in the game.

@user-jt1js5mr3f The Hobbit suffered because it was extended into 3 movies (which was Jackson's decision NOT the studios decision). Jackson's reason for extended it from 2 movies to 3 movies is because "there was too much footage" of stuff that he invented (love triangle, Legolas). Also, Jackson included things that weren't even part of the Hobbit story, like Azog. Sauron in LOTR barely shows his face and he is more iconic and has more presence than Azog. Azog is a forgetful villain that most people don't even care about. Keep in mind, all of this was Jackson's doing.

They should definitely try to get Viggo and Ian along with other legacy characters like Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and Lee Pace. Maybe even Elijah Wood. There's room for snippets of all those characters in this film with Viggo in make-up or slightly de-aged for his role as Aragorn hunting for Gollum. This bodes well for us fans. We love Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy and we love Viggo, our brother, our captain, our king!

Don't forget a younger but slightly older Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) more than Frodo, although I love Elijah Wood. Remember that first Gandalf needs to get Bilbo's ring story straight to go in search of Gollum.

I do really hope they will make films, besides the hunt for gollum, about the war in the north. It will tell more about what happend in de rest of middle-earth during the story of the original trilogy, what we missed out off. I would love to see the old casting from both the trilogy and the hobbit films in a more combined storyline, only time will tell. If done right, it could be the next hit piece many crave for. although, i too realize, it might never be as great as the trilogy was before. 🙏

This would seem like the most likely time frame for the movie to be set but personally I don't know if the actors would want to come back. It wouldn't be impossible as both Viggo and Ian loved their rolls and experiences working on lotr. Recasting would be a disaster and alienate a lot of people Imo. It would be like recasting Robert Downey Jr. as Iron man. HE IS IRON MAN. Just as much as Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen are Aragorn and Gandalf. If it is set during the 17 year Gandalf is gone then I believe they must go the de-aging route.

There's a lot they can do with this. It would be interesting to see the inside of Dol Gulder. I hope they do a blend of CGI like they did in LOTR so it seems more real. Too much CGI wouldn't make it feel real. I also think besides for the War in the North that you mentioned at the end of the video, They could do one on the Kingdom of Arnor in the North and how it fell.

With how nearly perfect de-aging technology is; look at Dial and that was three years ago (as long as they take their time, hire the right artists) Viggo needs to return, he’s as fit and healthy as he was 20 years ago. Furthermore the Hunt for Gullum occurred between when Gandalf left with Frodo in charge and his return like a decade later.

The optimal decision would be to release it as an animated movie featuring the original cast returning to voice their characters. This approach would allow for a faithful recreation of the world from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. I am particularly fond of the art style seen in Princess Mononoke and other Studio Ghibli films, and I believe that such detailed animation would perfectly complement the tone of the new film.

I'll remain sceptical. I remember back when the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey landed back in 2011 and how hyped I got for that second trilogy and how disappointed I was at the end of it all. I've never repeated that mistake and don't intend to repeat it again. They just can't seem to give up trying to mooch off the success of The Lord of the Rings trilogy by pumping out more media with "The Lord of the Rings" in the titles. Always trying to catch lightning in a bottle like they managed to with the original trilogy. Just let it be. No matter how good these future projects may turn out to be, they will never better or even equal The Lord of the Rings.

I share your skepticism but I’m also really excited about seeing Middle Earth landscapes again. And hopefully a Howard Shore score! But yeah, a whole movie about the search for Gollum would be overkill. As much as I admire Andy Serkis’ portrayal, Smeagol’s story is done. There are so many other stories that could be told. If the trio of Peter, Philippa, and Fran are in the project, then there is a lot of potential. We hardcore fans are willing to concede a lot for a good story. Personally, I loved all the six movies directed by Peter. In my opinion, he is the director of everything about LotR. PS: As long as AMAZON is forbidden to even look at the material we'll be fine.

I mean, this can only be on the level of fan fiction with the established characters, as there is no written material for it. Parts of the Hobbit movies already felt like this for me (like Gandalf meeting Thorin in that inn). It’s all based on nostalgia, longing for and trying to reiterate something great that once has been, and it can never be as good (even with PJ and Andy Serkis). It’s time to create new things.

The hobbit wasn’t Jackson’s film, he was brought on too late and tried to fix what he could with it but it was too late, he has stated this many times and said he wasn’t given the tools etc he needed and had to rely on cgi, hopefully with how that failed, Warner Bros have learnt from This.

Give us a bit of idk Aragorn origin - life in Rivendell, meeting Arwen in Lorien, life as a Ranger etc, meeting Legolas etc. Could show Mirkwood, Lorien, Rivendell and include the well "Gollum" storyline if that's what they doing - all around that. Shame can't see Christopher Lee as Saruman go searching for The Ring or something. Be good to see Galadriel, Radagast etc. They could give us Glorfindel and the Sons of Elrond as well. Or War in the North be amazing - similarish to the games created ... show attacks against Lorien, Mirkwood, Erebor even .... Galadriel throwing down Dol Guldur's walls etc. Be good to see Radagast involved. I wonder if the storyline of the War in the North somehow could involve Saruman somehow even. This video was spot on. Just hope they try not use new actors, at least de age. We know Cate Blanchett willing to be involved.

I think the only movie worth making during the events of the fellowship is the war in the North. Leave out most of the characters from the OG trilogy, save for maybe some brief appearances from Gandalf if it fits. Other than that PJ could focus on events of the 2nd age. Maybe Angmar V Arnor, Or the area of Harad post fall of Numenor.

They better make use of the latest technology to de-age viggo mortensen and his voice. People can do it on their home computers, with a million dollar budget behind jackson there's no excuse. Worst thing would be to recast him, not sure if that's possible with Ian Mckellen. Also avoid HDR color grading, 60fps. Not another shampoo commercial, the sepia tones and gritty look is way better for fantasy.

There was a fan based short movie called the "The Hunt For Gollum" released about 12 years ago. There was also a "Born of Hope". It should be better than Rings of Power

I think that Viggo will fit the role of the already grown up King Aragon. And for the role of young Alex Skarsgard. They even look alike in some ways. Lee Pace could very well return. Hugo Weaving (Elrond) was about 40 years old in LOR and 50 years old in the Hobbit. As for Legolas... In canon, although he appears little, he plays an important role. After Gollum's escape Thranduil sends him to Rivendell and then the events of the LOR take place. If the authors will touch upon the part 4 age (death of practically all members of the Fellowship, death of Aragon, coronation of Eldarion and sailing Legolas and Gimli to Valinor), then Orlando could play that Legolas, who quietly lives in Itilien and dreams of the sea. And for the role of a young prince Harry Collet (aka Jacaerys Velarion) would be suitable. Handsome, statuesque + age appropriate

I would much rather they De-age the characters than recast. Having Thranduil and Aragorn appear in the same film would be a great way to bridge the Hobbit (whatever you may think of the films) trilogy with the Lord of the Rings trilogy!

The scenes where Gandalf would be active they could easily just use a double and then digitally place Ian Mckellans face on the double like they did with Paul Walker in the Fast and Furious

To be honest, the only thing that I don't need at all again is another shoe-horned in Legolas-appearance but it can't be worse than in the Hobbit-Trilogy were they blew him up to be a main character again who defies all laws of physics...while new characters like Beorn barely got any screen-time or even got iconic kills stolen by Legolas...but I really hope that they get back Lee Pace as Thranduil aswell and have the Woodland Realm looking vaguely as it did in the second Hobbit-movie

I bet there are good actors to be found. What made the original so believable was that the actors were committed, also physically. You cant fake having a 65 year old being athletic like Aragorn.

I felt empty at the end of the Hobbit movies, desiring to know what happened to the people of Dale/Laketown and how the dwarves fared in Erebor after Thorin succeeded in reclaiming it. If these new movies would come back with them and tie it together, I'd be delighted as storytelling and character were lacking in DOS / BOTFA I think. Crossed fingers the old team make up for it.

I dunno... normally I'd be excited if I were younger, but something about this seems not right. The Lord of the Rings was made with a passion to make films of Tolkien's work. It was done *because* Tolkien lovers wanted to make it. This, on the other hand, has an entirely different motivation: it's studio-ordered. As much as the people being brought onboard are all directly related to the trilogy's success, there was a different _motivation_ behind Lord of the Rings. Yeah everybody'll enjoy their time on this, but still. The difference between heartfelt projects that originated in love and projects that are ordered by studios (even IF the people brought on are passionate about the subject matter) is starkly different, and you can tell.

It hurts my heart saying this but I would go for a recast. Maybe Viggo and Ian could introduce the film by narrating the story… but I am a sucker for practical effects. Keep the greenscreen and CgI to a minimum pls. ❤

Ian Mckellen actually wanted to play Gandalf in Rings of Power but they didnt want him so I think its not that unlikely that he comes back for this unless he got serious health problems in the meantime
