It was a picture-perfect dry Autumn Day in the town of Eureka near the Flat Head National Forest just miles south of the Canadian Border. The drought had been brutal that year with the Flat Head River not more than knee deep in some places. The farmers hadn’t had much luck with crops that year and the deer population had suffered. Many ranchers were paying double in some cases to have feed shipped in. There had also been a much higher than usual amount of predator attacks on livestock.
