Edit/Story; Gaea has been experimenting with “dark art” or in a way magic that doesn’t require “pony magic.”
Ofc she has kept it secret in hopes of using it to take back her throne and maybe her entire kingdom. However during this practice the King happens to be in the hall listening in. And ofc has known the whole time but has pretended to be ignorant of her practice.
Seeing as her “art” was actually making some headway, he decided to finally surprise her and step in during this practice. However instead of immediately stopping it, he encouraged her to continue it. As sort of a sadistic tease before actually punishing her. But when her eyes turn and her hair turns and everything in the room began to die, he realized she had made some serious progress that he actually was ignorant of.
Staying calm he lets it continue to see how far along this art truly has come. However seeing most of his guards starting to die he uses magic to forcibly “knock her out” and make the spell stop.
