Everyone's idea of a ''complex rig'' is different and some mention that the Stomp doesn't have enough DSP...here's what's on my ''stand alone patch'' for using the Stomp off the board, direct to FOH in a P&W environment. - Deluxe Comp - Dhyana Drive (ZenDrive, main OD) - Teemah! (Timmy, 2nd stage OD) - Matchstick Ch1 - Dual IR Block - Running David Hislop's IRs...2x12 Greenback on one side, 2x10 G10V on the other - Stereo Mod/Chorus Echo - Stereo Dynamic Hall - I like how you can darken it and keep it behind your notes while still adding movement and depth to your sound - Stereo Glitz - Setup for a ''cloud'' sound...BIIIIG! FS1 - Cycles through my Snapshots... A is clean, B adds the Zendrive and C adds the Timmy on top... FS2 - Delay ON/OFF FS3 - Tap/Tuner I also modded an old CryBaby enclosure to work exactly like a Mission SP1-L6H so I can access more functions... FS4 - Glitz ON/OFF EXP2 - Assigned the level parameters on the IR block to be controlled by this...effectively acting as a volume pedal placed after my gain stages but before my time based FX. In short, I can recall 3 different gain stages and still be able to switch my delay and go from dry to wet (Glitz) independently while also having a volume pedal...thats just the Stomp on its own.

I started using the Stomp live in a cover band. I'll have to switch guitar and bass at times and it's perfect since i can just pan each instrument to one output per preset and mute the one i'm not using. The main thing about DSP is being conservative with drives and rather use snapshots to change between different gain, level or EQ settings on the amp than just putting another boost in front of the amp block. If that works, it can be pretty much be used as a all in one-pedal without much downsides. External footswitch and getting like 3 Presets with 3 snapshots each should be more than enough to get anybody through most gigs.

I used a combo amp on stage for years (Marshall MG 250DFX (yeah, yeah)) but always ran it direct in the end. I picked up one of these and it changed the game for my tone and my back. My band has been totally amp-less for years now using Axe FX 8 for our lead guitar player, Quad Cortex for our bass player and my silly little Stomp for my epic, seven string audio spackle that fills in the sonic holes.

been playing it for over 3 years now. i still have pedals on my board because 1: mojo and 2: i dont want to rely on it in case the software fails (ive had issues with the hx effects before). that said it is a fantastic pedal. it does everything. I personnally really really like the preamps inthe front end of a real amp. You can really turn your fender into a vox or marshall if you want. really useful especially for those like me who still use tube amps. Also i had the opportuity to A/B a bunch of the OD models of the stomp vs the real stuff and sometimes the hx stomp model sounded better .... So i think yes this is definitely worth buying in 2023 and with a few accessories (expression pedal & midi controller) it can totally replace a full sized board

I’ve used the hx stomp since 2019 because I lived in a condo and yeah loud noise haha. I love line 6 products I’ve been a user of there’s since 2005. It was exactly what I needed plus being a pedal guy it works well with that. Don’t see myself switching any time soon. Maybe the next unit they make only if it really blows down the doors.

Thank you for the video. Please tell me how to specify only the final amplifier in the effects chain (if I connect the preamp to the stomp) I can’t find one, how to create the chain correctly then? If you put just AMP, then you get one preamp + the second ... will this give unnecessary distortion / noise?

Good to see another Nebraskan HX Stomp Acolyte. LOADS of flexibility once you get the hang of the menu system and routing. Best fly rig on the market especially when paired with an analog OD pedal and 3rd party IRs if doing direct to the front of house.

If you can't afford the QuadCortex, then the stomp is the next best thing. It's really amazing for the size and price. Totally worth it for bass or guitar. I bought mine a couple years ago used for like $450-500. So easy to use as well. Also, you don't necessarily even need extra foot switched since you can use the command center and have the buttons do just about whatever you want, including cycling through multiple patches or changes patches. It's amazing!

Thanks for the video! I have the Helix Floor which is great but am looking at a Stomp for a backup rig or to even downsize for live depending on what I'm doing. For my main band I am the vocalist and lead guitarist, and only have one tone and don't switch. I could easily get it into the Stomp. For another band I'm a hired gun in, the Floor is a bit more applicable for flexibility.

Many guitarist purchase the HX Stomp for its small footprint and for what it can do. You see many videos with the HX Stomp on a pedal board. That however is my main gripe with this unit. The unit is fairly power hungry with a measured current draw of around 900mA at 9V. The power cable that comes with the unit is rated at 3Amp 9V, but is fairly short and clunky. If you have a pedal board power supply, most do not offer that rating on a single DC port. So in most cases you need to at least purchase a current doubler which uses two 500mA DC ports. However after doing this on the unit I have it will basically work but in a few instances after leaving it on for a period of use, it will freeze up. Powering off and then back on will then be working again. Given that the 900mA current draw is close to the 1amp total doubler I believe this is the culprit as using the Line 6 power cord issue does not show up. There is the CIOK DC7 which has 660ma 9v on multiple DC ports so using a current doubler should work better with a total current capacity of 1,320mA but it is pricy. Very surprised that Line 6 has not found or offer a solution to this dilemma. A number of posts on this can be found by internet search etc.
@otfan522botjournalismisdea2
The stomp is a very good unit. Has great abilities to integrate into an existing pedal board. That said I think there are a few things holding it back from being truly a great all in one. It does not have enough DSP to run stereo paths/ dual amps and a full effects chain. If it had that it would be one of the all time greats. The other thing I hope L6 is exploring is the ability to integrate capture tech like ToneX or Kemper. And maybe integrate that with the modeling like Kemper liquid profiles. That would really level up the stomp and make it a game changer. I think it can work as an all in one if you run mono add midi switch and do not need pitch shifting.
@Quimmoo

I've got to Stomp from full sized board and I'm using some of leftover pedals in conjunction with a stomp - Meris Mercury7 in FX loop and Tensor in a front of the unit. Saves DSP and opens up a lot of possibilities

So I’m basically just a wanna be player that wants to be in a band one day. But I am a more of a collector since I watch RU-vid instead of practicing. So thousands upon thousands of gear, including all the Line 6, Fractal etc, I finally took another go at it today since I heard they updated a lot of things. Holy crap I wanted to cry. I looked at all the money I spent through the years watching videos on the best new tube amps like Driftwood. Omega, Revv, fortin, you name it, I own it. , and now I realize all I need is a little power amp like the KSR PA50 or the Seymour Duncan and the Line 6 and I can just jam. Same with the QC. I’m not even good enough to play much, but I had so much fun!!! Now time to sell gear for retirement money!

HX Stomp vs Neural amp modeler NAM in 2023: I just spent a couple of days testing some of the most popular amp profiles in NAM. Damn a lot of those sound great. The Stomp stock presets does NOT sound as good. So I tweaked and added a compressor and using the same IR, I realized, using professional flat studio headphones, that I can match these tones. Same magic, same quality, characteristics, etc. BUT, for example the plexi, I had to use the Matchstick model because the Stomp plexi model was not so great for cloning the NAM. So the NAM has been proven to be better than all for profiling amps, I tell you if you have good ears, you can sound as pristine with the Stomp. The top modelers will not sound better, you have everything in the box to match the best of the best.

It’s a fantastic pedal, but I did have a problem when line6 put the prices up post Covid. These things are now usually going for 20%+ more than they were not long ago around me, and they’re pretty long in the tooth after 5 years. It’s a great pedal I can easily recommend, but we’re definitely into the ‘is it worth spending that much this late in its product life’ kinda era, especially as the budget options are catching up fast. It’s a fantastic tool I love to pieces, but it’s a harder buy in 2023 than it was when I got it in 2020 for sure

I purchased a new HX Stomp 2.5 years ago for $500. Every Firmware Update has improved the unit, and I can get great sounds out of it. The unit can do so much, it's mind boggling. Remember, you're literally getting hundreds of Models of Amps, Cabs, Speakers, Effects, Microphones, etc. and a plethora of connections all at once. My suggestion is take it slow so you don't overwhelmed, as it's like getting most of the gear in an entire music store all at once. Also, consider getting the "Helix Native" Plugin down the road. It gives you all the Helix Floor's programming power in the form of Software. I picked mine up for about $50 on sale about 6 months ago. You are only limited by your computer processor's power, which even on my old laptop, doesn't seem to hamper anything.

I love my stomp, I also have a Tone X that I used for a while along with the stomp, I enjoy the amp sounds better with the Tone X but after some time I figured that the difference in tone is not that big in sacrifice of pedalboard space. Got hx stomp but sold it anyway, its not for me it really sound so digital, I really prefer the organic sound of the analog pedals
@ZachBrobstMusic
@ZachBrobstMusic Год назад
I've heard that too. I know I've heard people recommend adjusting some of the EQ around 6000Khz can help remove some of that digital "harshness"

If I understand correctly, you loose almost 1/2 of this pedal potential, if you activate your poly capo block…

I still had to use my owe distortion pedals. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone

I’d say that is the weakest area of the Helix line is the distortion and overdrives. There is some decent tones in there but real pedals feel a lot better I think that’s why so many use the stomp as their amp sim and then have it on a board with other pedals

Nope. Maybe it's the only pedal you need. But you don't speak for the rest of us. I used all-in-one systems for a few years and, with the exception of a couple of Digitech models, you are limited by algorithms.

If you don’t like it, go somewhere else. It’s RU-vid, you can find a ton of different videos, so stop complaining, and just go

I actually prefer it, and usually end up skipping the playing parts anyways. I look for detailed analysis and deep dives into the features and usability.

Just in case you care. I’m sure I can’t be the only one that thinks the Music is way to loud and makes the video annoying and hard to watch, And that being said And with all that said, should be banned from all videos. A bit like at the end of the day.
@ZachBrobstMusic

Just out of curiosity, did you listen to the video through headphones or speakers?

@@ZachBrobstMusic Hi it was on my phone but I can check later on both headphones and speakers. It could be eq but to be fair I’m not a big fan of background music being loud, as it distracts from what you’re saying. But if you listen to 0.18 and don’t look. It’s annoying i asked my girlfriend to see if it was me and she also found it annoying. I listen to a fair few people on my phone and never noticed theirs being overly loud. Thanks

@@MikeHenrick1 Appreciate the feedback! I've got it pretty low but I have noticed if I listen through headphones vs. speakers vs. my monitors it feels like the volume is different.

@@ZachBrobstMusic Thanks for replying and taking the time to be bothered, Listening to some of your other vids, I personally prefer the ones that do not have music playing in the background all the way through, anyway each to their own, everyday is a leaning day, it’s why some studios use Yamaha ns10s or some basic cheap car speakers as a final check mix at the end, if I can sound good on on them, then jobs done. Trust your ears, you do a good job, and I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into producing your videos, Some videos people have the mic so close to their mouth and to loud and have a weird mouth noises while talking. One of my pet hates. Listening blind is great, it’s like you can hear sooooo much more, well it works for me.

Line 6 SUCKS. Get a quad cortex. If you can fit a stomp you can fit a cortex.

This was about the only video I ever made under another handle because I wanted to keep it gear related. But goes to show you don’t need much room to fit the QC and other stuff. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I3bmuM6b4vs.htmlsi=N5N0MBxZ8J7biFaF And I have like 0 subscribers haha
