Okay, you sitting behind yourself sells me on this car. I'm also 6'6", but I don't like big cars; if I fits, I sits! Bring it to the U.S., Hyundai, PLEASE!
I don't even own a car because I live in a bicycling city that's a bit like Berlin or New York and have public transport where the clocks keep time in seconds, not minutes that lets me take my bicycle onboard, even my LWB cargo bike, but I want this car. The first crushing car love since I was a snotty teen 50 years ago.
Hyundai is amazing at their packaging game. My Wife has a Venue and despite it being the tiniest little thing its backseat is actually very comfortable for an adult and is more spacious and comfortable than some larger SUVs.
me too... thing is this is the third car I have seen this year that makes me say "best yet...", so I figure I need to wait a little longer till the trend of manufacturers outdoing one another runs out... Essentials for me are large feeling inside, proper buttons not touch screen, and ~200mile range when not using heater; with A/C & heat pump a desirable extra: and then for me it is mainly on price.
I've lived in Korea for the last 6 years, and I remeber when the Casper came out. My first comment after seeing them on the road was, "damn, that's a cool, cute little hatch I could get along with. If only they made an EV version I would be 100% on board, and I bet they would sell like hotcakes." 3 years later and here we are. It's a shame I bought an IONIQ5 this year already, but we'll see how they get along here. Korea loves small cars and EVs, but the 2 have not really met yet. The Inster and EV3 will be the real indicator if Hyundai/Kia's all-in EV strategy was a payoff.
I love small, inexpensive, cute, cars. Oh my dog! This thing actually has buttons so I won't be battling a touch screen when I want to change climate settings on the freeway! This thing is Jack friendly front and rear? I'm 2-3 inches shorter than Jack so this should be comfortable for me. This is the kind of small car I love! I hope we get this in the United States!!!
I love the light coloured interior. Don't know why everything at the cheaper end of the market seems to be a uniform black. The light colour makes the already remarkable space seem even bigger. AND it has a sunroof too.
This is the first new EV in ages that hasn't been heavily heavily trailed for months or years, and instead just appears as a finished product in a video like this, ready to go in under 12 months. Love to see it. I'm sure that the arrival of this, the 5, the eC3 and the Spring is going to open up a new market segment for EVs, and it can't happen fast enough
Expected price in South Korea would be $22,000~$26,000 without any subsidy. If we get subsidy price will be down to $15,000~$19,000. What a reasonable tiny car
Love the panel with the big chunky buttons. The word I would use is "retro", because to my taste being able to operate the kit by touch should never be outdated.
At 11:15, I fully agree, Vehicule-to-Load (V2L) sockets inside the car should be a standard feature of any EV : it makes so much sense !!! I wish there would be one at the back, where there is USB-C plugs for passengers, and one in the boot, with an option to let an extension cord go through the middle of the boot (with boot nearly fully closed). Also bi-directionnal charging Vehicule-to-Home (V2H) / Vehicule-to-Building (V2B)through AC should also be a native functionality of any EV as it would mean that the car could both be used as a back-up generator for a house, and store peak solar panels production during the day, and re-use the electricity at night : it so obvious as it would both allow to save extra money on electricity bills and be helpful in case of black-outs due to storm,… !!! Yet in Europe, and especially in France, there is no EV with both V2L and V2H (The Renault 5 should have been the 1st one, but at this time, there seems not to be anymore project to integrate V2H 😢😢😢).
The reason why major car manufacturers other than Hyundai and Kia do not offer V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality in their electric vehicles is due to concerns about battery lifespan reduction and the resulting increase in warranty costs. The more consumers use the V2L functionality, the more the battery lifespan decreases. To provide V2L functionality, the issue of battery lifespan reduction must be addressed, which requires significant technological capabilities in the battery management system (BMS), inverter, and battery cells. As of now, Hyundai and Kia seem to be the only major EV manufacturers that have fully addressed all of these issues.
Like the idea of fold-down front seats. The problem with most small cars is you can’t get long items in on the one occasion each year when you need to - and that one occasion can be important. How nice to be able to run a genuinely small car all year and still have that practicality.
This is really all I need in a car, size-wise. There's two of us, sometimes I need to move a chest of drawers, sometimes I need to drive my parents to the doctor, and this is exactly what I need. However, please, please, please, make a performance version (
I WANT ONE! With a switch to open the front flaps and have two short lengths of 22mm diameter pipe to poke out! "No Mr Bond, i expect to shoot out both of your rear tyres!" 🤣🤣🤣
Loving this car so far. On physical buttons, if you use any sort of car sharing you'll know that buttons are incredibly important. Something as simple as not being able to find the demister can cause an accident. Even if its my car, I dont see myself having memorised where to go on the screen well enough to find the features I need. I havent even started on the haptic feedback which lets me know the button has worked without having to take my eyes off the road. Its a case of just because something is new and pretty doesnt mean its better
Decent range, size, specs (heat pump?! V2L?!), and (hopefully) price. Exactly what Honda should have done with the (better looking) Honda e... if they gave a flying fig about EVs.
This is such a funky little car. This is going to sell so well in the UK! I have a Kona Electric and it's amazing. This Inster is so cool compared the other cheap dross available. Only the new electric Fiat Panda is in the same league design wise.
love the back seat segment that is a lot of room 😀 I owned a 2012 Chevy Spark , the Matiz as its called in South Korea so I'm no stranger to small Korean made cars, I would definitely think of buying one of these, The EV version of course, I have had my fill of working on and dealing with ICE vehicles. I hope they bring it to North America but there is a move towards sub compact SUV's and Hybrids.
This car is so cute I might give up my Scion iq for it. I want this interior and this color. Please bring it to the USA, Hyundai, and let us have the cool interior and some great exterior colors instead of silver and gray!
Thank you for this video. You mentioned TWICE you can have a see-thru panel for your photos As an American I have to ask - how many people in the UK carry around prints that they need specialized holders for?
not sure where you see the cute and friendly looks of it but i have seen worth so its ok i guess, and it looks ok inside, what is kind of concerning is the range, but close to 349km is ok i guess..., now make it like 15-17k and im impressed
OMG when i first saw the Honda E years ago it was the first car I really wanted to own, but it was so expensive, and it got discontinued. Now this comes out!?!? im in love 😍
Of all the compact EVs that have been reviewed so far, this Inster is my fav. I particularly like the way the 4 seats (including the driver seat) can be folded flat. Very versatile. I hope it will be priced competitively against the many budget chinese EVs. It has the potentials to sell well even in Australia as most people drives less than 100 km a day at max.
The US needs this! It's a perfect commute car! Or a college car, or even a small family car. This is the ideal city car, at a price that's ACTUALLY affordable AND it's ADORABLE. but, of course, the US will never see this. 😢
As the owner of a 2024 huundai kona N line s EV (AND 6 FT 5" tall) the space in the cabin is genuinely a game changer and the buttons are the reason we bought the kona.
I wish Hyundai get’s this in my country. This is literally what i have been dreaming of, a Kei car inspired EV with sliding back seats to expand trunk space. So happy for people who have the chance to buy this.
About 4.4 miles per kWh average for such a small car? I'd expect higher but it is great we're getting cheaper options which no doubt would be great picks in a second hand market
Hehe, those vents remind me to the Corsa B, very nostalgic. I like this car! I'm very enthusiastic for small EVs coming to the road. This thing is an awesome little piece of fun.
@@Dqtube if they are hitting the price point of an e-C3, which they said they would, I very much doubt it will have NMC, considering they have about the same battery size. There also isn't any reason to chose NMC for such a small car with such a small battery. Still not sure why Renault thought it was a good idea. I couldn't find any information on any articles, so I assume whoever put that on Wikipedia just made it up. But we'll see. Maybe I'm wrong.
Its surprisingly refreshing to aee a car review i should pay attention to, I'm 6'6 too and seeing someone my height in a car makes a huge difference to how i see the review
Another stellar video by Jack and the FC team. This is another affordable EV that was years in waiting but can't wait to finally see some on the road in Europe!
About the back-seat space, i think they achieved that by putting the tyres at the very end... you can see there is just a few inches from the tyre and the very end of the car!
Here in Washington State USA we are replete with EVs but if this Inster was in my local Hyunda dealership I would buy one today. That interior is screaming for add-ons. My 3D printers would be working overtime.
So brilliant to see this type of vehicle going to be available soon. Hope that it’s really good value. We so need such a great looking and practical car at a great price. Super walk around Jack!
This is a terrific looking car with great practical features and beautiful design. The Inster shares some of the same thoughtful qualities of the 2018 Honda Fit that I presently drive. I think Honda, Chevrolet, Ford, and other brands made a big mistake shutting down compact models like the Fit. There are many Americans who love to drive small cars and I think the Hyundai Inster would transform the current EV market if this car was offered in the USA. Bring it here for 2025 and I'll order one now!
There are too many suvs and pickup trucks on the market. We need small, practical cars like the Inster. But will it be sold in Australia? All Australians get are big pickup trucks.
Loving all the internal seating stuff, the physical buttons and the range. It was let down by the front charging port that would oblige you to reverse out of the charging station (not Highway Code recommended) and the intrusive high distracting central screen. Couldn't see a button to turn off the Automatic Lane Nanny though.
This looks great! Not quite big enough for our family of 4, but if they only made a bigger sibling to this and added like 30cm of boot space length-wise, then it would be great!
Owner of a Hyundai car bought new 15 years ago. Good brand. Looking to combine 2 cars into one, carry long things a must, cope with 6 foorter and a 5 footer driver equally well. I like to start researching the next car about 4 years in advance, unless a week in a hire car bowls me over (that's how we picked the wife's car). What I'm getting to is, it'll be 4 years away (if ever) before a RHD UK model is actually available where I live . Nevermind, I enjoyed this teaser.
The design is alright. It's not spectacular, but at least, as Jack already said, it's not another angry looking car. And that I do appreciate. Though the inside doesn't wow me visually, the amount of space does. I do also love the phone slot between the cupholders. And then there's the price. It'll convince you if the design doesn't.
YES!! It will be nice to finally move on from a Peugeot iOn and get 4x the range, and keep the interior flexibility, not to mention adding a head pump and all the other upgrades. Tried a VW e-Up and it was actually less practical inside than the iOn despite being bigger.
For some markets is still expensive, i wish there will be an alternative to Spring. I hoped E-C3 would have a prince ~20.000E ( and with eco-ticket the final price to be 15.000)
Watching your show for the first time and subscribed. Loved your presentation. Also Hyundai should bring this to UAE. There are no affordable electric cars here.
The 1st car I owned was a 1963 MG Midget, yes I like small cars; easy to maneuver, easy on the pocketbook and easy on the eye. Bluto-mobiles are what most people gravitate to but I will always prefer a smaller vehicle like this one. Can I buy 2, please?
It is a shame that the Inster will not make it to Canada, especially here in the province of Québec where we eat up every EV we can get. All locations need small and spacious EV options and the Inster looks like it would kill it here. Like I mentioned... a shame it isn't.
Jack, you would not be so surprised about this stuff if you'd looked at the Kia Ray EV. I have been posting about the Ray until I am blue in the face. It's the most important car on that planet because it did all this right YEARS AGO. I am very, VERY glad they took ideas from the Ray and moved them here. When you have the driving test of this car, please don't miss the chance you missed here. LIE DOWN IN THE CAR. Lay the back AND FRONT seats down and lie down. You'll almost certainly fit. And investigate the camper-mode settings they must have. Because it looks like (just like in the Ray) this will allow AC-and-heat-all-night no-bugs camping in the fully-flat space this makes. All cars should do this. It's absurd this is the first car to hit the UK which does it. I am so glad to see this car coming. But it's still not tall enough, wastes space for the big trunk, etc. I still prefer the Ray.
I own a 2006 Honda Element in Florida and I experience the same interior experience everyday! Honda have to redesign and EV it now!!! They would HAVE to take my money!!
