* As of 3/7/24 They changed Windmills to take damage in storms now and produce a little more power. You will need to repair the windmills if you continue to use them. Also as of 3/15/24 wind turbines now take a ton more damage basically making them an item you have to constantly repair. Sorry Finished Game changes constantly....
I wonder if you could add another pillar and then use concrete or stone floors as a ceiling to provide a covering for the windmills. Or do ceilings now work as the half pieces only work? Cool video
i havent tried this yet. but as they windmills look for a circular area around them couldnt you just make some like big silo looking structures with the pillars in them. or even make them big square shaped legs that hold your base up with the pillars in them. or incorporate them in some way like that in your base and then still not see the tower of windmills. just ideas in my head. thanks for the vid sir.
That's an interesting idea and makes it more compact. However I just litter my base with turbines. If it's really bothersome to see, then I can do some foundations in the water and pretend they are off-shore wind farms.
Sweet! I especially like how clean it looks - use of just the single posts in the middle and halfpieces staggered like that make it look like a windmill dedicated structure. Turns it into a feature. Also neat to see tricks you used to get the halfpieces into the configuration you wanted- that will be useful for other applications in building (Hate that snapping in the game comes without ability to rotate through all orientation options, but very useful to see the workaround). Cheers! Oh and Maintenance FREE AT LAST!!!! Improves the value of freezers across the game. Lets you finally go and explore and build somewhere far away without just reconciling yourself to coming back to freezers full of spoiled food. Imagine that!
Thanks for for the comment and the support! Exactly no more spoiled meats and rolls =D Yep I always just fill the slots around to get the snap I want. I REALLY wish we could cycle snaps also! OMG that would be great!
Thanks you! Wow! That’s awesome. I didn’t realize you could manually place the beam into the ground! All of the function info is great. This structure is crazy. And it’s gonna be great on a smaller scale too!
To Free place a pillar, floor or foundation block there are 2 settings. Go to setting in the controls tab. Underneath the hotbar keys you will see 2 settings. Unfocuse building grid > will untie your piece from grid, but as soon as you point to an existing tile it will resnap to it. Disable focus grid > will not snap to another tile (until you reenable it) so you can point at another tile and free place it as you please. When in this function make sure your piece is touching the ground because it will break when you place it if it is not supported by ground.
Thanks so much for the tutorial and for breaking down the material list! You taught me something with the scaffolding. Much better than how I've been ramping up to things. This is how I will ramp for some of those pesky missions now, lol. I still need to find a way to hide wires that I'm happy with. In Ark, builders found ways to snap multiple walls onto a single block and used layers. I am investigating how to do this using some of the methods I've seen in gh0st builds' how to video. But man, it's a little tedious testing all this stuff out. Thank goodness for outposts! Looking forward to more building tips and tricks from you. ❤
Yep you can ramp up the side of any mountain also just using ramps as-long as the ramps are slightly in the wall your golden also! You can place wires on an interior wood beam then upgrade it in place with an hammer to concrete and it will hide most wires! Thanks for watching!
@@LateNightStream Nice tip on the beam! I just learned how to make straight, tidy cables / get rid of the nasty curling in the wires. You have to lay your wires one segment at a time instead of continuously putting them down (just right click in between and start new wire or resume from last junction). Next time you reload the world (go to character select, or quit/restart client), the cables you placed that way will get rid of all kinking; you can get true 90 degree angles. If you use the tool and just keep laying cable without interruption between placement, those will stay curled and kinked even on reload. You may have known that one already. It was new to me and will make hiding cables in beams so much easier. I was trying but ending up with weird curves and little birds nests poking through my walls and it was driving me crazy!
Great vid. Awesome project and outcome. I did not realize you could break free from the auto grid placement by pressing home botton, either. Superb tip. Also, your "Look no further" comment after 0:56 before conveniently listing material costs had me in stitches and earned you a sub and like instantaneously 😂
Hey thanks for watching! Yah we definitely get the views of a larger channel surpassing half a million earlier this year. Channels that do guide videos I hear are more apt to have lower sub counts but higher views and people really seem to be liking our content. I’m super happy with the way our channel has grown in the last two years and looking forward to the next 10! 😀
Thank you so much for this video! I finally got mine built today in the Prometheus OW. I got around the annoying snapping issue by placing a piller tower at the corner of one of the pesky half floors, and it let me rotate it just fine. :D Question though - is there a way to tell how much power is going through a wire/line? I am not sure all my nodes "connected", but am not sure how to tell without just adding a bunch of machines until the power gives out.
Thanks for watching! You can not currently tell how much is coming through the line. It’s a ton of math but you can know how much you need and how much you got coming in by counting cost vs total output. That’s the only 💯 way atm but I’m not familiar with the mod community and if they have something. You can also keep tabs of that number via sign I put on the wall stating your output and input. Hope this helps
Hello! That's Camera Mode where you can look around the environment. In Short, you enter camera mode with numpad 8 by default or whatever you have key bound it for under controls in settings. Numpad 9 removes your UI. Also Explained here if you would like to see it =) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w4o9qKVCca0.htmlsi=r3tp-1vHkCLt3_BI&t=2081 Have a great one!
Glad I can help! You can also max out your fall resistance with the survival back pack and some kickfall modules or the Biomore backpack anything that has fall resistance on it. If you get to 99% you take a very small amount of damage and don't break or sprain your legs. =) Thanks for watching!
First try failed Cant get the first beam at the right height Second try easy success I use frame as foundation than go from there Its looks weirdly unstable since you cant place pillar in the middle, but its blue stable, first one was green stable
Yep and you can just start with a few of them then add more as power demand grows or increases if mats are scarce. You can do stone till you have concrete too just will get damaged ever so slightly over time.
And I built this power tower, it works like a charm! Only thing that I couldnt get to work exactly like your video is when I press the home key, my beam does not want to "float". But i managed to build it just fine with the scaffolding only 2 blocks away, I think the only issue was the placing of the second row's turbine. But Just placed it as I was coming down and wiring and breaking down the scaffolding. Only issue with that is if there is a wiring issue you should either rebuild the scaffolding or place ladders to the top against the beams, climb to the top, and jump down to each level to check. But Im so happy for this video. Also the costs of my concrete items differed. Maybe you have a talent unlocked to make it cheaper. My wind turbines cost exctly the same. Thank you once again. Stuck waterwheels annoyed me later on!
I loved your ideas for this power station. I also enjoy your Icarus videos. I decided to improve on your idea and wanted to share it with you. On the Icarus General Discussions I posted my build entitled: I Built a 43,750 Watt Wind Turbine Mega Power Station. Check it out. And thank again for your awesome video.
What ever you need. Make it as big as you need. I actually have to have two of these to replace my water wheels as I have over 8 deep vein drills going on this outpost as well as all the benches in the game.
@@MrDRE01 yah it makes getting everything except oxite titanium and platinum very easy with electric deep veins that’s how I build my large stuff 😀 then I just use the thumper for all the other things I can’t mine like that. Usually go to a mega cave etc. This really works best on open worlds since they are persistent etc. or outposts
its basically two half pieces side by side. You can also use pillars angled ones to accomplish this. Also you can slow the video down at the bottom click on the gear icon then choose playback speed. I can also help you with a short if needed. Or join our discord and I could talk you though it. LMK and sorry about that.
