The problem with Apu was such BS hate that it ruined voice acting. Since following its release VA's started getting strong armed out of roles because their ethnicity not matching the characters' across all entertainment. Then that type of casting segregation became normalized.
It’s weird how the supposed anti racism crowd is always pro segregation. If someone can truly create voices (like Hank Azaria or Harry Shearer) I don’t care what they look like, it’s the magic of the art form. I get that kids are going to be cruel, kids are cruel. Maybe society should be present with kids, teach kids about how to treat one another rather than censor art and try to cover the entire world in bubble wrap and make it safe, sterile and consumable.

I wish you had talked about Season 33 and onward, maybe it doesn't fit the iceberg mold but I think I'd be cool to talk about the rumors of the Simpsons being on a renaissance era at the moment, where episodes have a more consistent quality and they seem to be getting their heart back, with some really good episodes to back it up too!
the "simpsons renaissance" is a myth, a giant cope. i watched halfway into season 33 and watched some season 34. it was depressing. i didn't laugh, i wasn't entertained. as someone who doesn't like family guy, modern family guy is infinitely funnier than modern simpsons. i don't admit that with joy, and no i don't watch family guy, but i've seen an episode or two in the last 10 years, or clips online, and even they have a joke every so often that's so stupid it might get a slight chuckle, which is a lot more than i can say about the simpsons. and i'm somewhat of a simpsons apologist. i love plenty of episodes past season 8, well past the double digits. if you genuinely love the new episodes, i'm happy for you. i'm not here to tell you that you should not enjoy them, but don't pretend they're objectively good/funny/interesting or that it's a consensus. this isn't important for me not enjoying the show, but when i hear the new voice actors for non-yellow characters, my soul cringes. i'm saddened the show has gone on this long and the quality has dipped so low.

Yeah, but if Homer's in a coma, how does he know what's going on in the outside world? Every episode riffs on what's happening in the outside world at that point in time: the music, the fashions, the latest music, movies, TV shows, current events, etc. The characters don't age, but time still moves forward on the show.

Matt Groening loves little hints etc, and that bunny character was his first big success in the wide world, so having marge secretly be a bunny doesn’t surprise me. Someone needs to draw marge with her hair down, like when she’s younger or when her hairs wet, with her bunny ears down in her hair (lop eared) style
The concept is honestly a bit too out there, especially for the more grounded earlier years of the Simpsons. I also feel like the bit about Bart not knowing that his father is also his favorite TV clown would have gotten old pretty quickly. I also think having Homer work at a 9 to 5 job works much better for the Simpsons conceptually, since they're supposed to be an average middle class family (and the nuclear power plant makes for a great setting for jokes and satire)

In first seasons Simpsons were rarely refrencing something adult. In later seasons they started puting everywhere sex(gay, normal, jail) jokes, kinky implications, every one started sleeping with something. Heck, for some reason I prefer the Simpsons where married couples are doing such a thing, but it was NEVER implicated in early Simpsons, even word sex was omitted. Now we know about sex relationships of many side characters, like: Hans Moleman, Otto, Barney, Doris etc It all started when Marge exposed her 'magambos' to the Springfield characters...

Apu may have been a stereotype but then so is everyone in the show. Nobody should get special treatment. Not all Asians would be offended by it. I thought it was obvious that the Halloween episodes weren't real? A lot of them start with the characters TELLING them as stories, at least early on. You can still reason they are just tales still.
The issue with true Asians and true Latin Americans is that we are very hard to offend. The only way to offend us is by focusing all the continent in either "Mexico" or "China". Either that or impose snowflake shit unto our culture
Nobody ever talks about the Simpsons newspapers. It was before Internet. My Grandma looked through her mail one day and there was a fake newspaper in there. It was when I was a little kid. I was born in '84. She gave it to me. I can't remember what happened to it. If I'd known Simpsons was going to be so popular, I would have put it in plastic and saved it. But, the show wasn't much back then. I assume it was some kind of publicity thing. ...Not joking.
