Bus Parisien 91: a visual journey from Paris Gare du Nord to Gare Montparnasse in the south of the capital🚌
But do you really know the history of line 91? We retrace a small part of the course of this mythical line 😊
For well over a century, line 91 has been part of the lives of millions of travelers in the Ile-de-France region. Its history begins in August 1876. For a few months, however, it only served Montparnasse station to Austerlitz station. On January 25, 1877 it was extended to Bastille. First by horse tram, then steam trams are put into circulation. It is then managed by the "SUD tramway" company with line index number 3.
Between 1939 and 1945, the bus network was very small. The majority of buses are requisitioned. In May 1942 only 3 urban lines will continue to run, including line 91. These 3 lines will disappear in May 1944. The resumption of operation will take place on November 12, 1945. When operations resume, the service is provided by 11 "PANHARD K 63" cars stored at the IVRY depot. As of today, the line is still there.
On May 1, 1983, the RATP put the first Renault PR180 articulated buses into service on lines 91 and 183.
Another novelty on the Parisian network since April 20, 2019, the very emblematic line 91 Montparnasse - Bastille has been extended to the Gare du Nord to replace line 65 on the Gare de Lyon - Gare du Nord section. Thus, line 91 aligns the Montparnasse, Austerlitz, Lyon, Est and Nord stations on the same route.
