Pat, in 1985 my friend and I were in middle school, and we came to see the Reckless concert in Terre Haute, Indiana. Before the show we ran into you and Bryan in the mall at a store called The Record Bar. Bryan was buying his opening act’s record (can’t remember the name). You were eight feet tall with spiky hair and introduced yourself as Bryan’s drummer and bodyguard. 😁 You guys talked to us and we still talk about it to this day. Thank you for taking the time to make a couple of eleven year-olds feel like rock stars and lifelong fans. ❤️🥁🎸
That's the beauty of rock, indeed not too technical as progressive metal or fusion drumming but the groove and the power delivered by Pat in here force respect. His enthusiasm reminds me of Chad Smith and Brian Tichy
I think the same as you and agree with every word. No overplaying but everything is in right place and time. Love Pat's playing with Bryan on Amnesty International concert
I've played this song about a million times in various cover bands throughout the years, everyone always goes crazy for it. Nice to see this breakdown from the source!!! So great.
Each and everytime I play this live, I'm instantly transformed back to sitting on the floor and watching that video on Much Music in 1985 on our 20" RCA TV.
Reckless, Still in my all time top ten albums, his playing is sublime. If you’re not aware bryan has put lots of top quality videos of him in royal Albert hall with pat. The videos are top notch.
As a very average guitar player of 25 years that took like 3 weeks of drum lessons… this channel is amazing even if 70% of the drumming lingo goes over my head
The sparse bass drum makes this drum part elevate the song! And I've seen more than a couple cover band drummers not understand the count on this fill at the end of the break, and I wish they did, because it's simple yet sublime!
oh my god, this song is one of my top 10, I have played it thousands of times, it is not a complex song but it is so full of good vibes and energy, thank you for bringing the genuine one and explaining everything!!! simply incredible
LOVE THIS SONG!!! In more ways than one as family moved to SoCal in Jan 1968 from Michigan! But, Our Summer of '69 was our MOST FREEDOM EVER!!! We lived on Lake St in Altadena, up Lake from Pasadena! The Jr Hi was right across the street & in summer they had gym open (am thinking that's where DLR practiced his gymnastics!), they'd spin 45's in smaller room & you could buy cups of pop! Our Fav @ the time? Why suicides of course! Sis & I still reminise about that fun Summer! Both too young to drive but also got our first pair of Vans @ their Flagship store right there on Lake St! For a "whopping" $5.!!! What? HELL YEAH! ❤ Boy, those really were the days! YEAH, BABY!!! ROCK ON!!! ✌️🤘
Quite ferrocious, for what is, at its essense, a hard pop ballad. SOLID AF. I LOVE visually how this hi-hat sways perfectly as if its suspended in water with its on sonic bouyancy. Thank you for this, Pat and Drumeo!
Pat is a great drummer and delivered well on the tracks he did for Bryan. Why did Mickey Currey get the long term drum chair I wonder? Mickey has recorded on most of Bryan’s catalogue. While Pat has great energy and rock chops Mickey to me looked like he was doing it smoother and with little more flow on his fills. Anyway both of them great players but Mickey was more my favourite. Great video and an iconic song of my Eighties teen generation 😎🥁
It’s incredible how this song have gotten stuck into people’s hearts and souls. It’s part of the structure and fabric of the universe now, at least in musical terms. You are SO lucky if you get to channel a song like this through you! So many millions of people have a memory connected to this song. And me, known it since back in the day, and STILL crank it up when it hits the radio in the car 😎
In 1985, in about 10 days apart , I got to see Deep Purple on their Perfect Strangers reunion tour in Oakland CA at the Coliseum..amazing show! Before that, my dad came home with Bryan Adams concert tickets for the Spanos center in Stockton CA. I asked dad where he got the idea about Bryan Adams tickets. Between seeing Bryan, you Pat and the rest of the band on late night tv and hearing you guys on the radio, he thought it would be a great show. Besides, my then girlfriend might have mentioned you guys to dad as she wore out a LP version of Reckless. Bryan for three hours till his voice was hoarse kept shit hoppin. Pat I think you were playing a black Yamaha 6 pc kit with sabian cymbals. I was blown away by your playing and more so when Bryan introduced you and you went off on a kickass solo. Only problem I had was I wanted to hear more. Not only am I a Bryan Adams fan but I have been a Pat Steward fan big time ever since that show. Glad you’re still driving the crew
One of the first tracks i learned as a beginning drummer in the late 80's. Still a favorote now because it may be simple from a technique standpoint but its all about the feel. Still an absolute classic.
As an 80s music fanatic, this was always one of my Top 10 songs, precisely because of the drums. I was never a drummer myself...but I airdrummed the HELL out of this song every time I heard it...and I still do, 40 years later! So awesome to hear how they came up with the different parts. The breakdown after the 2nd chorus was my favorite part, especially the pairs of bass drum hits...awesome, awesome song!
It's funny that yesterday I saw Bryan Adams and his band performing Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven and was amazed by the sound of it all, but speciall the drums, and a day later this video appears on the channel...Love how Pat plays and the sound of his kit (the one using here is the same than the concert I mentioned)
He's such a great presenter. Really fun video to watch. The song takes me back to my childhood. My mom had the So Far, So Good album. A compilation album, I believe. I loved listening to the album while lying on the floor by the cupboard that our Hi-Fi lived in. The song takes me back to rhe house I grew up in, every single time I listen to it. And now I want to learn it, so that I can add new memories to the song.
Awesome! I had the fortune of seeing him demo an Ayotte kit at Drums Only store on Granville street Vancouver back in late 80’s…he absolutely rips. Such iconic drum tracks on those early Adam’s albums. Seen him since playing live with Mathew Good Band. A Killer.
Had the pleasure of working with Pat on a few projects. I can say his energy behind the kit is unparalleled. Standing beside him I would wince every time he hit the snare. The guy can hit!
Love the way that version ends! Been playing that song for 20+ years, either on drums or guitar, and never heard it like that. Very cool. Mind if I borrowed that?
Let's also give credit to Mickey Curry who also played on Reckless & Cuts Like A Knife. And, he played for years with Hall & Oates. Mickey is a phenomenal drummer & I'd love to see him on this show.
Love this song !!! 🙌🏼✌🏼🔥🧡 the drums just do so much for it, bring the lyrics alive and basically take it up from a possibly pop balas to this upbeat enticing iconic rock song🤘🏼 🎸 so thanks for that 😂🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼👊🏼👏🏼
High PAT! Just want to say that when I think of that 80s rock and Bryan Adams, I think of his vocals and guitar work and your drumming. Always thought the drumming was perfection on all that music. A drummer has a million ways to play something, a few hundred that will sound good and a handful that will sound great. You always ended up in that handful of ways. Regardless of if it came from your head or ideas of Bryan, you playing it make it great.
Look how relaxed he plays. Even after all those years look how happy he is playing the song. Nice simple fills that hit you straight in the face, massive impact and drive to the song.
You know what, I heard that song like a million times over the years growing up and I'm now 58 years old and the drumming breakdown of that song made me appreciate it even so much more. Thank you so much. Love your channel keep up the great work.
There are quite a few more from Canada but he is up there. Too many too mention.Jerry Mercer (April Wine), Matt Frenette (Loverboy), Paul Delong (Kim Mitchell), Gil Moore (Triumph),Daniel Adair (Nickle Back),Tyler Stewart (BNL) to name just a few. Hundreds. Pat is iconic for sure, playing on some these incredible tunes.
I remember saving my allowance for a month to buy this tape. We were poor and couldn’t afford a lot. But we had an old tape player and I had my Bryan Adams and Corey Hart tapes. Played till they wore out! 😎
