Agree. The amount of time and material spent doing this could have been avoided with a simple run to Home Depot or Lowes to pick up a simple purpose-built clamp that costs about $5 and takes 60 seconds to install. Counting the time spent driving to HD/Lowes and installing it would still be a fraction of what this guy expended. And cheaper, too.

I love to see people improvising. Improvising can make use of what would otherwise be waste. It's a great way to keep the mind active and think outside the box. Anyone can buy a solution, not everyone can MacGyver a solution. It's true empowerment to be able to solve problems in less than ideal circumstances. 💪👍👊♥️
@robertwhittington8111
@robertwhittington8111 Год назад
First off it's not MaGyvering it when you have access to pvc cutters, a heat gun, pvc glu, a new sander disc and a beautiful workbench. As for the waste, he wasted a good bit of pvc pipe there. If he was trying to conserve materials, why did he cut such a long piece of pipe to begin with. He cut a 10" to 12" piece when 5" would have been plenty. Since that was obviously not a high pressure application, he also wasted the 2 pieces that he glued on the ends when he could have just roughed the pipe since he also used glue. He could have have created a bevel on the shoulders by rubbing it on a brick, concrete or even a rock. The final piece was longer than needed for the entire project. Considering all the pipe he had leaning in the corner, I'll bet he threw away the pieces of pipe that he cut off. Even if he didn't throw them away he now has short and pretty useless pieces of pipe. The materials he used also cost more than a coupler, so he also wasted time and money. .
@dustintaylor2083
@dustintaylor2083 Год назад
@@robertwhittington8111 My main point was that unconventional thinking is a virtue. Anyone can buy a solution. Using what you have on hand is literally what MacGyver did. He was doing a demo, not an actual repair. Hypothetically, something like this could allow someone to make a repair without a coupler on hand and use what would otherwise be waste material.

@@billwilliams9897 I've used half inch plastic PEX ring typically used to hold fittings into 1/2 PEX pipe to hold on new ends on garden hose instead of using a metal hose clamp I take 1/2 ring and stretch it large enough to fit over a garden hose usually the 3/4 nose on a Milwaukee PEX tool will stretch the ring large enough to slide over a garden hose stretch the PEX slide over garden hose push the male or female hose end into the garden hose and then slide the PEX ring up and let it shrink I usually start with the 1/2 inch nose expand the ring and slide it over a 3/4 nose then screw that nose onto the PEX tool and expand it large enough to fit over the hose then put the end into the hose and let shrink I wasn't sure if it'd be able to stretch that far without tearing the plastic since it's stretching a bit more than a 1/2 to 1/2 connection but its worked fine on the hoses I've repaired now for the air lines I've used the different style that uses a solid copper ring and crimp tool I'd have to look but I think it was a 1/2 ring over a 3/8 air hose slide the ring over the hose push the barb into the hose then work the 1/2 ring up into place it's a pretty tite fit so it takes a lil force to get the ring up into place then crimp with the tool I've had them on for a couple years and it's still holding fine without any air leak

what a job...for a couple dollars you can buy a small joiner besides I have joined hoses by heating one end and sliding it into the the narrower end , yes I used some pvc glue too.

Nice! Now I'm off to the hardware store to buy a PVC pipe cutter, 1/2 PVC pipe, solvent glue. This is much easier and cost effective than buying a cheap coupler off the shelf 😂 Thank you!

Once I had same predicament to join two flexible hose pipes. I had a small piece of half inch dia steel pipe, cut piece of a curtain rod. I slipped its two ends on the two flexible hose pipes and secured them with hose clip.

It sure looked like he wasusing glue to me, a short piece of 1/2 " copper pipe and two hose clips will do the job.

You used glue and made a connector and clamp that was much less effective than the cheap one from the store. It was fun to watch it
