I truly think that the show did have enormous potential. They should have let Amy Seimetz cook or just finished the scripts before starting filming. The end result is a haphazard mess with nothing to say. I wish it wasn't because this could have been very interesting.

The scenes without Tedros were not bad. In fact almost every scene that didnt include tedros was interesting and carried what miniscule plot the show had. The cinematography was beautiful. Iiterally took the time to just mute and watch certain scenes because of how beautifully they were shot. But wow was this such a waste.

Did everyone forget that Euphoria is an adaptation of an Israeli teen drama? Levinson has no good original ideas. Look at Season 2 - which has no material to adapt - as well as Malcom and Marie. They are both missed opportunities. He got lucky ONE time.

Abel has been arguing in twitter saying Tedro is supposed to be a bad character, Tedro is supposed to be hated by mass but in the finale it was portrayed as if he is some kind of victim that we should empathize. Dafuq are you trying to tell us Weeknd? Also how come Jocelyn sabotaged Jennie's career when Jennie took her song? It doesn't make sense And if Jocelyn wanted to keep Tedros to her then why she made the execs pay him to keep him away?

Yeah the Levinson-Tesfaye copium strategies have been very tiring. At first they went with the "it's a comedy, people have totally misunderstood our point entirely" route. Even if you take into account that Tedros isn't supposed to be likeable, he is still a boring character and a terrible antagonist for the series.
@limlimxo
@limlimxo Год назад
1) Abel was explaining that UNTIL it got revealed that Tedros is getting manipulated by Jocelyn he is the bad guy. He was written to be the bad one, and then we get revealed that he is not the only bad guy. Good idea, bad execution, because I didn’t feel like Tedros was bad, I felt Abel’s acting was just horrific and felt digusted by his poor acting skills. So at the end of the day it worked out ig lololol. 2) She almost had the song, there was no written deal, that was made, so it was just legally alright to take the song away from Jennie. Maybe that was a critique from the show. That often times Artists get fucked by the legal permissions of companies to execute their power without the consideration of the artist. If that was a critique, then it was executed horribly. 3) Manipulation. It’s a typical push and pull manipulation tactic. She likes to manipulate her little dogs. Its a power play, her mother manipulated her whole life, which manifested itself in Jocelyn’s relationships. It was also kind of teased that she didn’t do it the first time. She didn’t heal herself mentally in any way, so this is her coping mechanism. There was so much potential, it’s really disappointing.
@pratyushpavansaikia8161
@pratyushpavansaikia8161 Год назад
@@limlimxo 1. That's what I'm trying to say. The finale portrayed Tedro only as a victim. The finale showed as if Jocelyn is THE BAD guy, as if previous episodes never happened. 2. It's not possible for Jocelyn to sabotage Jennie's career. Jennie didn't have a career to begin with. She stole Jocelyn song which means Jocelyn got back what's her. Jennie isn't a Jocelyn victim 3. The push and pull thing you've mentioned isn't what they've shown
@limlimxo
@limlimxo Год назад
@@pratyushpavansaikia8161 1)Yeah but he was arguing about the scenes BEFORE it got revealed that Jocelyn is the bad person. All of his tweets were responses to reactions of episode 2-3, therefore he was arguing against the portrayal of Tedros of ep 2-3. Also, a victim can be a bad guy too, just because you are a victim in one circumstance doesn’t mean you are not a bad guy in another. You can be both, which Tedros is. Both the bad guy and the Victim 2) She got promised that the song was going to be hers. Yes she didn’t have a career, I wan’t arguing against that. Jocelyn “stole” the START of Jennie’s career, even after J told Jennie it would be fine for her to take it. It was not J’s song to begin with, she did not write it, in fact almost all of the songs were not written by her. That’s basic information of pop stars. Hired ghostwriters of the company did, so the song is from the company. J could’ve easily refused, she literally has a whole album, but she didn’t. Even if that was nasty from Jennie, it is also quite nasty from J, both nasty actions taken. 3) Push: She got herself out of his sight, released tons of information about him in order to make his life harder, she told him indirectly never to contact her again. Therefore he became more obsessed, as we can see he saw that he is powerless, and the dynamic changes, it’s not Jocelyn anymore who is the lost puppy, but Tedros as we can see how he acts after J introduced him to the public Pull: She gave the guys permission to let him enter her space, she is flirty/friendly again as if nothing happened, she let the whole world know they are dating It’s not the typical Push and Pull dynamic, its much more exaggerated, yet it can be seen as a symbol on how the push and pull can be used. Every art we see is a much exaggerated piece of reality, so don’t expect art to be realistic, usually it is not. There’s a reason why it isn’t called Reality. No way I’m defending this trash, I’m just defending the truth lol

I actually feel like they could have done a "goofy" "loser" cult leader thing a long with a terrifying one but, it couldn't be at the same time. Like if at first he was scary but, once her team like exposed him, he became goofy because that power was taken away. You can also make "loser" characters seem scary in a Jake Gyllenhaal from Nightcrawler kind of way. Or a bad guy that has a chip on their shoulder and is insecure and violently overreacts like Joe Pesci in Goodfellas. But this all goes back to acting ability and direction. Both the writing and acting wasn't good in The Idol for Tedros.

Why should a show “say anything”? Are you craving the old days of the Hayes Code where a story HAD to have some moral lesson? Idk what’s happening to audiences that this has become a worthwhile critique. We need shows that refuse to moralise and instead just tell unexpected stories just as much as we need “shows that say something”

@@jakestroll6518 The show is trying to say something about Hollywood exploitation that's the point of this show. The problem is that it ends saying nothing about the topic as Tedros whose presented as the Weinstein of the show is all of a sudden seen as a victim when he's been anything but.

The intimacy coordinator was there to make sure she felt safe and that the execs weren’t making her do things she didn’t want to-the role of the intimacy coordinator is to make sure stars aren’t exploited. To see that character be shoved in the closet to make some weak ass commentary about Jocelyn wanting to show her boobs is so annoying-because it’s actually less feminist to try to make fun of a parameter that is there to protect young stars, not the opposite 😒 especially in a post me-too world Also, the plot twist doesn’t even work. Multiple characters like Xander and others in her team talk about how awful her mother was to her, which means they saw her be abused. It makes no sense that they’re trying to make her seem like she’s the villain and The Weeknd is the victim when most of the show is spent showing him abuse others lol

I think it’s worthwhile to consider the absurdity of imposing “protections” on a woman who doesn’t want them. I the show should have stuck with this theme because it ties with expectations of “respectability” with mainstream female celebrities. The return of puritan culture and paternalistic ideas of what people can and can’t do with their own bodies in the name of “protecting them”. I also wish they’d lampooned this crazy idea that because many women like this accommodation that ALL women should be forcefully subject to it. If the actress wants to improv on the day, she should be allowed to reserve that right.
@fizzles5
@fizzles5 11 месяцев назад
@@jakestroll6518 Museluver got one thing wrong: intimacy coordinators are not just for the actors/actresses, it's also for the dozen other people crammed in the room with them! Doesn't matter if the actress wants to show her boobs if no one else consented to seeing them! and that's where the pressure comes in again, if you make the decision to get naked IN THE ROOM, then the camera people and everyone else are going to feel pressured to say 'yeah it's fine' bc they're on the spot. that's why all of that has to be negotiated and written down beforehand. So no, it's not just about protecting the women. it's about literally everyone else in the room as well. A rare case where the standard is the same regardless of gender: if a guy can't suddenly drop his pants and whip his dick out in a room full of people, a girl can't suddenly get naked either
@gimmeyourrights8292
@gimmeyourrights8292 11 месяцев назад
@@jakestroll6518 The point of Intimacy Coordinators is that they make sure that the talent isn't being exploited. The reason why there is a need for such a job is because of the culture that has surrounded Hollywood for years with degenerates masquerading as directors and producers.
@mkaur6998
@mkaur6998 11 месяцев назад
@@jakestroll6518the intimacy coordinator explains that she can show whatever she wants but it needs to be included in the contract which would take 48 hrs and cant be spontaneous on set when the terms of nudity have already been agreed upon by her. So its not telling her what she can or cannot do just making sure she isnt pressured into doing more than what she has agreed to. Because that's exactly how it would he If someone were being exploited. They would agree for one thing and would be asked to do something different on the actual set. That's why its important to put the exact nature of the nudity into a legal format before hand and then stick to it. Makes complete sense.

I feel like they could've either dropped Tedros out of the show and have a compelling story of a pop star gaining control over her career. Or they could've focused on Tedros, as some all-powerful cult leader who manipulates singers. He sees Jocelyn as his next big target, starts manipulating her to take over her career, and then bam, by the end of the show we figure out that she was manipulating him. That's kinda what they've been up to, but with the main focus on Jocelyn, he's kinda like a secondary character who only burdens the obtuse plot of the show, and, as a result, neither the plot nor the big reveal work.

I’ve been listening to his music his whole career so when I heard about this show I was stoked even more so when I found out he was starring in it. But I can’t defend this show. The writing, acting and presentation all fell flat and literally everything that happened led no where. No character arcs. No setting up the finales “twist”. No pay offs. Nothing, it’s crazy. I wanted to like this show, truly. But it was a boring cringfest that ultimately said nothing. Oh and the bandages weren’t because he was “beat up”. It was him healing from “plastic surgery” which was a part of the theme from that album. Your interpretations of his music and their respective videos aren’t exactly right however it’s all up to interpretation at the end of the day.

I think they make obviously bad choices to get people talking and also pissing them off. I hated much of the music because the lyrics are so cringe but even World Class Sinner grew on me. By the end I liked the show and the soundtrack is on repeat. But the bigest mind fuck is how the hate of the show went viral. People hate binged the show while You Tubers of all types made videos about how much they hated it and point out that you should too. I dont think they realize how much free publicity they gave the show. The viewing numbers are actually higher than the first episodes of Euphoria. They may even get the show a second season and you can't tell me that people won't feel compelled to watch out of fomo. Show producers don't care if you hate it, they just care if you watch it. Now that is a real mind fuck. I hope we get a season 2.
