Ahh can hardly comment on this as a Filipino specifically an Igorot..but its a fair game..Galut & company were not traitors at all they simply follow their instinct,no human beings would want to stay loyal to people who reject, discriminate or bully when there are other options to turn to - they were nicely treated & accepted by the enemies, but rejected by their own...if I were in the timeline of Galut i would do the same to teach those group of people who think they have the superior genes because they reside in the valley..

My boss brought me to Ilocos Sur without any plan to tour around the community of Tirad Pass in the town of Gregorio Del Pilar. It so happened that while resting in the town of San Emilio, I met one of the great grand children of Januario Galut and without wasting time, i let him tell about the story of his great great grand father Januario. He told that his granfather is not a traitor because he never knew the mission of the Americans and he did not know that Gat Gregorio Del Pilar had stablished a post at the peak of Tirad Pass the favorite hunting ground of Januario for wild animals. When Januario went home he sat and cried calling for Kabunyan asking what he had done that led the death of his Hero Gen. Gregorio. It seems that the story about Januario Galut was false. That's an interesting story.according to me, Igorots were not traitors, they were deprived, exploited, discriminated so they were compelled to switch side.
After seeing this, I reconsidered... Galut is not a traitor. In those times and even now I guess, tribalism or regionalism prevailed. He and fellow warriors were treated very unfairly by fellow Filipinos. Lowlanders inherited the Spaniards' wickedness towards people of the mountains. A case of superiority complex that is why even now lowlanders treat the Igorots badly.
The man described here as ygorot was Juanario galut as mentioned in Philippine History(by Gregorio zaide). The boy General Del Pilar was KIA at the mountainous place of now Municipality of Del Pilar, Ylocos Sur. This mountainous place is actually still a part of the Cordillera ranges but taken as part of Ilocos Sur. I was informed that in Del Pilar municipality there are still descendants of Juanario Galut who bear the surname Galut, and they admit that they are Ylocano by ethnic origin. they intermarried with the Bago people and became of the Bago tribe. Juanario galut was mistaken as Ygorot because he was at that time in that place settled by people of the Bago tribe, the Ygorots( hill people) of that place. Juanario Galut was a lowlander who buys and sells cattle; and he knows the trails of that place that is why he was able to show the Americans another route to circumvent the frontal defense of Grogorio del Pilar and his men.

This is to correct you sir, there are also Igorots in the hinterlands/ mountains of Abra, . They are known commonly as Tinguians , to some Itnegs. Anyway, whether Galut is an Igorot or not , is not important. And even if he was an Igorot, his actions do not reflect the actions of the group or to the race that he belongs.
